  • Toyota corolla verso - Toyota Central locking fob activation 11 Jul 2016 (Forum)
It's the big block key that you insert into the dash and press the start button. It all starts and runs fine just the remote locking seems to be deactivated.
  • Mitsubishi Colt, 2007 5 dr, CZ2, 1.5 Di-D - Loud noise whilst driving 5 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I've tried driving the car in manual mode and also changed the tyres around, both of which made no change. I regularly run up and down a motorway to and from work, but have never heard this noise before. We have just been away for a week and the noise was there every day! Any ideas on what could be the cause?

  • Small car with 6 speed box reccomendations 9 May 2016 (Forum)
I need car that has good motorway mpg as well as town. Many small cars which would be good for town seem to only have 5 gears which would over run at 4,000rpm on the motorway making them less efficient there. Ideally I want a diesel 1.6ltr 6 speed manual. My budget is max £4,000 so the car would need to be 8-6 years old obviously.
  • BMW 3 Series E46 - BMW Auto Trans Fluid Change or Not to Change 6 May 2016 (Forum)
I have a 2003, 320i (2.2) with the ZF 5 speed auto. It has only covered 29,000 miles (mostly long runs) - full BMW history. A bit of a time warp car. Most Indepedent specialists recommend changing out the transmission fluid (and the differential) - due to the age. Some have told me at that mileage that it's fine.
  • Ford Mondeo, 1.8L Estate 2003 - Car Radio Display 21 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Once I pressed the CD button, it appeared to go back to normal. Any ideas what this could be/mean?  The car itself appears to be running fine other than that (and a slight fluttering when the car first starts up from what sounds like near the offside front tyre/steering wheel). Oh and the oil needs topping up.  Any help or suggestions?
  • A look back in time 7 Mar 2016 (Forum)
A guide to used cars lists top speed, mpg, replacement cost of engines, (typically £50 to 70 for UK cars, but £540 for Mercedes!), gearboxes, tyres, brake parts etc. I used to buy the magazine regularly in those days, running old cars it was often helpful.   Present day equivalent I suppose is "Practical Classics" and the valuable resource of this forum's technical section.
  • BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer - Poor Front Seats 4 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I have the BMW 2 Gran Tourer Luxury edition and whilst it's a fine car in many respects I find the driver's seat causes pain and discomfort to my right leg above the knee. This is down to the shape of the seat base and not helped by the double row of stitching running around the top of the edge of the seat. I brought the issue to the attention of the dealership soon after taking delivery of the car and they referred the matter to BMW. BMW responded by saying that as the seat is as designed and has no technical flaws there is nothing they can do.
  • How much do you spend on a car? 24 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I wonder whether I would be treated differently if I had a more expensive car, but I like my car. My car is reliable and very cheap to run. My car is only worth 1% of my house's value.
  • Any - Do you check your car's performance? 30 Nov 2015 (Forum)
This is easy to do on a stretch of quiet, open, flat road with a stopwatch, and averaging the data over 3 or 4 runs.   All my recent cars (Mondeo, V40, Passat, V60 etc) have been very close to magazine road test data - certainly to within a couple of tenths either way. Anyone else do this?
  • BMW 3 Series Touring - Tyre pressures 8 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I do remember however when going by them how ridiculously high particularly the rear ones seemed to be and I would frequently run unloaded at lower ones. Such high rear pressures could account (partly) for BMW's reputation for providing fun and games in snow & ice conditions. Can anyone provide me with recommended useable pressures for 205/55/R16's?
  • I keep eyeing up mid-90's 4.2TD Landcruisers 20 Sep 2015 (Forum)
With undersealing I guess these would make a good 'forever' vehicle? Obviously I'm not expecting cheap to run, but reliability and robustness. What sort of speed can they cruise at comfortably? I've read differing opinions online. What were your insurance premiums like? I'm in favour of spending sensible amounts of money at the upkeep of a solid vehicle, so an 'enhanced' maintenance programme would be fine with me.
  • Ford Focus - 05 MK2 focus idle problem - not the usual problem 10 Sep 2015 (Forum)

  • Ford Mondeo Titanium X Estate - 2011 model - Gearbox problem/Engine management problem - help.. 11 Aug 2015 (Forum)
My Ford Mondeo seems to drop out of gear while on the move. Today, driving at about 40mph I suffered a loss of drive. The engine is still running and the revs shoot up but there is no drive to the wheels. I had to pull over, turn the engine off, restart, and was then able to continue driving. It seems that turning the engine off resets the engine management computer (but that's just me guessing!).
  • Usedcars-shop.com is a SCAM site, 30 Jun 2015 (Forum)
usedcars-shop.com has been up for about 10 days from what I can make out, thankfully for now i've not heard of anyone parting with any money. The site has been reported to actionfraud (run by City of London Police) 4 times and I have attempted to get the site taken down by the hosts but this is proving difficult as it is hosted in Russia. Please spread the word.
  • Mercedes C Class W204 - Mercedes diesel vs petrol - advice please 12 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I am in the market for a 3 year old C Class up to £15k. I do about 12k miles pa so its not clear cut whether a diesel will be cheaper to run - and given that a petrol C180 is generally a grand cheaper than a diesel and often with half the miles it might make better sense. I am wary of a diesel's potential for big bills when they get old (I plan to keep a long time) with turbos, injectors, etc but the new 1.6 petrol (M274 engine) is direct injection and turbo charged - would these be just as complex and troublesome when old ?
  • Vauxhall Zafira - Heavy tyre wear 10 Jun 2015 (Forum)
This is the third set of front tyres to to fitted in the last 10,000 miles ( ten thousand miles )  I am a careful driver and am aware of how to avoid speed hump damage etc. The car is mainly used for the school run and a daily cummute to work of 5 miles. In each case the excessive wear has been on the inside edge of the tyres. I always fit well known branded tyres. The garage has checked balance, tracking and suspension components but can't find an explanation.
  • Ford Kuga Titanium manual 2013 model 11000 miles - Immobiliser malfunction. Service required. 7 May 2015 (Forum)
Hello Chaps, Following a 12 mile run and then a subsequent 2 hour stop in a hospital car park, the car would not start. The dash lights all came on but on pushing the start button, the engine failed to turn over. The computer then displayed "Immobiliser malfunction.
  • S Type 2.5 SE - Loss of power, why? 24 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I bought all the parts, only to be told that it could just be air loss from one of the many pipes attached to the engine. If all these parts need to be replaced, would the engine still run, and would the tick over be erratic? I ask because it starts first time, idles well and is not frowning out lots of fumes from the exhaust. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Bojag.sjr.
