Defensive Driving Courses in Edinburgh/Lothians 21 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone know of organisations running defensive driving courses in the Edinburgh/Lothians region? I'm thinking of buying the missus one for her birthday, as she could do with some - ahem - "development" in areas of hazard perception, anticipation, etc. and generally protecting herself against the idiots who seem to flood the roads. -

mondeo misfire? 7 Jun 2004 (Forum)
when i drive my mondy i get a misfire at about 2500 to 3000 rpm. it's ok when accelerating and it's ok at idle, it just misfires when i coast or on gentle deceleration. it's a 2000 zetec 16v 1998 and it's 100k+ miles. the fuel economy is really good most of the time as i do motorway driving and i dont drive it hard. -
Bad driving Website 30 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Featured on BBC Points West Local News last night - www.hogline.co.uk A website set up by an unidentified person to allow the reporting of bad driving. Insurance companies will be charged to view the resulting info. I assume the police will have free access but will they have the time to take an interest? It is a membership service to try and stop spoof messages Anybody think of any possible libel implications? -

NIP 26 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I have recently received NIP for speed driving at 52mph under 40mph restriction on motorway. I have been asked to pay £100 fine and also been offered for DAS. I have got non EU driving licence, and my driving test is been booked for 10/11, can I just pay the fine and send them the copy of my non EU licence or would I be asked for any other document after that. -
Ford Galaxy - An issue on a test drive 11 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hello all Well i went to available car and found a 2010 ford galaxy 2.0 tdci zetec , 50k miles 3 owners £10k fair price for a galaxy , all was good till test drive, its an automatic and idling in park was good, we gave it some and sounded as normal etc, only from PARK to DRIVE then it started to judder, low revs and then cuts out. Tried a few times and same thing, once you start moving though it works fine, got plenty of power, smooth gear changing etc , until you slow at a junction, it starts to judder slightly but doesnt cut out, just seems to do it when you first pop it in Drive .. -
any - Cars driving down motorway lanes with RED X 22 Dec 2015 (Forum)
This caused slow traffic in the three outer lanes and as we got too the accident cars were driving down the closed lane at 70+ whilst the traffic officers were standing in the nearside lane waving the cars over. These officers were risking their lives to protect others. These ignorant selfish numpties should be banned for life from driving. -
Volkswagen polo V - To Drive To London Or Not 31 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hello I'm planning a trip to visit some friends in London next weekend. However, with only 5 months driving experience under my belt, I'm in two minds whether it's a good idea. The train is incredibly expensive so I'd like to drive if at all possible. I've driven through many cities in my 6 months such as Birmingham, Derby and Leicester but I've heard terrible things about driving through London. -
Citroen C5 1.6HDi to Citroen C3 1.4HDi - From a 1.6HDi to a 1.4HDi - thoughts? 6 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I'm looking to trade-in my current car as I have moved jobs and no longer drive the distances which I bought it for. I used to drive 30-40 miles each day with a longer trip of around 600 miles every third or fourth week. Now I drive around 30-40 miles a week and no regular long drives. -
Mistakenly driving without insurance 12 Apr 2010 (Forum)
He will now be prosecuted for having no insurance and for not wearing a seat belt. He currently has three points for a speeding offence. other than that he has had no driving offences in over 40 years. He never drives his daughter's car and this was a one off. He just made a mistake thinking he was insured when he wasn't. The whole scenario may now have the potential for his points tally to reach driving ban level. -
New runabout required! 22 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I've test driven the usual suspects - Mazda 2 (bit too unresponsive for me), Honda Jazz (loved it) and the Hyundai i10 (very nippy and responsive but unsure for motorway driving) I will mainly be using the car for general city road driving and A-roads but may occasionally go on shortish motorway journeys at the weekend. I am going to wait for the new Fiesta and Jazz to come out before test-driving those. -
Question on Police driving [Read Only] 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
What does the rule book say about balancing the need to get to whatever you're heading to in the shortest possible time and the likelihood that your driving may panic others into making dangerous maneouvres? Thanks in advance -
Driving with problem head gasket 18 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I'm assured that it's driveable, but I'm conscious of the terminal damage I could do. Given that I have absolutely no option* but to drive it, what's the best way of managing the drive without causing any additional damage? Is it better to do it in one hit, driving it gently, or should I take a break every 20 miles or so and let the 'Renault Rocket' have a bit of a rest? -
'Blocking' someones driveway 22 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The school is in a residential road (detatched houses) so the pick up involves parking outside the houses. There rare usually enough free spaces on the road, between each drive, but it I'm one of the last to arrive I'll park (still on the road) right outside one of the drives (drop kerb). I would NEVER get out and leave the car, and would immediately drive off if I ever saw someone wanted to enter of exit their drive, so in effect I'm not causing an obstruction. -
Using private land (eg supermkt car pk) 30 Jul 2005 (Forum)
They say the law is complex and give some examples: Although road signs do not have the same authority as signs on the highway, and cannot be enforced under highway law, evidence of contravention of a sign in a private car park could be used in support of a prosecution for, say, careless driving. A driving licence or MOT is NOT required in a supermarket car park as it is not a road Motor insurance IS required as it is a public place A vehicle excise licence is NOT required as the road is not repairable at public expense If an accident occurs the same obligations to stop and exchange details apply as on a road Rules relating to drink or drugs and driving are the same as on a road a driver could be prosecuted for dangerous or careless driving but could not be prosecuted for using a mobile phone while driving -
Test Drive Insurance - Private Sale 22 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I planned to test drive a private sale car and 'phoned my insurance company (Direct Line) to extend my cover for the day. I know that I have 3rd party cover for a car not owned by me but I'm not driving somebody else's car with only third-party cover! -
Driving with defective indicators 17 Oct 2003 (Forum)
You can predict my question is (hopefully not tempting fate)what is the legal position here if an accident occurs as a result of not indicating. I assume it would be my wife's 'fault' in driving without effective indicators, but given it physically couldn't be fixed until Tuesday does Audi have any duty here, even if only down to 'you musn't drive it until repaired' or even (we're talking fairy-tail land) 'you musn't drive it and please use our courtesy car until it's fixed.' -
what cars should we be allowed to drive 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Also the new Golf quickie as well. It got me thinking that these cars are targeted at those that probably cannot drive them properly or rather do not have the necessary experience. Shouldn't we instigate a system along the lines of only being allowed to drive certain insurance rated cars (by group) for the number of years that a licence has been held. -
Anyone else been offered this? 18 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I got a letter this morning from Ford, noting that I had taken out their free insurance deal they are now offering me 6 sessions of advanced driving tuition with the AA dricing school. The sessions cover All Weather driving, Night Driving, Skid Control, and Higher speed Motorway Driving. Probably some other bits and bobs as well. This is all free, and I get to go out in a nice Focus Ghia, all at Ford's expense. :-) Obviously I'm going to accept it, providing it isn't a pass plus certificate, which I already have.
