I have a one year old Ford Kuga PHEV. I retired 6 months ago and don't do the mileage I used to. After some problems with the regular 12v battery going...
  • Is there still a market for small, basic, economical cars? 27 Oct 2012 (Ask HJ)
We bought our 1998 Fiat Panda 0.9-litre for 1400 Euros six years ago. It has now covered over 150,000km, and we have done 54,000km of those. It will comfortably...
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Best car, worst car 3 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Worst car is my current, Focus, a 1.8tdci which has just had a new clutch/flywheel at only 18 months old and 18,000 miles. It's amazing how Ford appears to be going backwards in terms of reliability and quality.
  • Paint mismatch 10 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I bought my wife a car from a well know car supermarket (Focus 1.6 Zetec in machine silver). The car was 9 months old when purchased. We bought the car in mid July but have only recently noticed that the drivers door is a slightly different shade to the rest of the car (or the rear door at least).
  • BMW 5 Series - Changing my 5 Series for a more 'sensible' car 8 Mar 2025 (Forum)
I have had a 5 series for 7 years, it's a lovely car and is now 10 years old. I have a chronic health condition which affects my mobility and will need to get a car that is easier to get in and out of. I no longer do a lot of miles (due to the health condition) but do still make a trip to the Dordogne in France for a family holiday each year.
  • Leasing or Renting a car in the UK 25 Jul 2024 (Forum)
As posted elsewhere, our old Subaru has reached the end of its working life after 20 years and needs to be replaced soon. We decided to buy a new car and looked at hybrid options but as we have to place the car in storage and are out of the country for up to 6 months of the year, hybrids posed a question mark.
  • BMW 3 Series - Car Damaged by a Child 5 Feb 2024 (Forum)
My car has been parked on my drive and the neighbours child aged approx 6/7 years old has put a massive dent in the car door, this is the second time this child has damaged my car on my drive within the last year (first time scratched the bumper with their bike).
  • Parts and paint - Cost of car repairs 23 Dec 2020 (Forum)
insurance companies are getting wise to this and raising premiums accordingly. A small dent on a door often requires the whole side of car to be painted costing around £1000 if the car is to be retailed. Another example I saw is an Five week old A5 hit in a car park damaging the headlight. Repair costs £2500. So the insurance route was taken.
  • Citroen C4 Picasso 7-st (2007 - ) - Anyone had problems with Citroen car fires ? 6 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Hi - has anyone else had problems with their Citroen cars catching fire?? We had a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 07 reg vehicle (car was 6months old when we purchased it) - still under manufacturers warranty that caught fire just after myself, my partner and our two children had just got out of the car.
  • Car hire abroad 4 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Holiday booked for October half term in Polenca, Majorca for four adults and a five yr old. We're considering renting a car for the week but not sure if it's worth it; would we be better getting a transfer to/from Palma airport and taxi-ing it about or renting a (big) car for the week?
  • Small car with 6 speed box reccomendations 9 May 2016 (Forum)
My budget is max £4,000 so the car would need to be 8-6 years old obviously. Currently I'm looking at the 08' fiesta but they only have 5 gears? Does it matter that much though? Thanks for any advice
  • A look back in time 7 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Lots of articles on engine tuning, ads for all kinds of parts and accessories. A guide to used cars lists top speed, mpg, replacement cost of engines, (typically £50 to 70 for UK cars, but £540 for Mercedes!), gearboxes, tyres, brake parts etc. I used to buy the magazine regularly in those days, running old cars it was often helpful.
  • Cancelling lease car contract before it starts 14 Jan 2016 (Forum)
My current car is very old and in dire need of replacing, I thought it would be better to lease a car instead and re-evaluate in a few years to see if I were better of buying. So I got a good deal through Lings but now I have been made redundant.
  • Car Buying advice 16 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I'm hoping to get some advice and recommendations as feeling completely lost as to which car to choose. I sold my old beloved 01 plate Renault Scenic around 9 months ago. After toying with idea of a berlingo type car I eventually ended up with a Ford C-Max. Unfortunately I've ended up with a dog of a car that's given me nothing but trouble, and that I don't really like the look or feel of.
  • What's the best new car for £12,000? 11 Nov 2013 (Ask HJ)
My mother is looking to replace her old Volkswagen Golf. She has a budget of £12,000, but wants an automatic that is basic and economical. What do you...
  • Unemployed and Insurance 31 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I kind of understand why the insurance would go up while unemployed for people with expensive cars and car loans, but the car is 9 years old now, I have owned it for 6 years.
  • Fiesta 70ps 1.4 Tdci - Chipping a diesel? 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I have also taken into consideration the cost of changing a DPF. The car is 15 months old.   Thanks
  • Any Make - Self Drive Cars 15 May 2012 (Forum)
The latest Buzz is about cars that drive themselves, a topic that surfaces every several years when a manufacturer shows a train of cars driving in a line and that they follow each other keeping apart no matter what speed changes occur.
  • Any vehicle - crawling approach to Traffic lights on Red 4 Mar 2012 (Forum)
One of the most infuriating habits of Drivers these days is crawling to Traffic lights that are on Red.You know the ones who leave massive gaps and crawl at 1 mile per hour. The reason for this moan is I have a 2 year old car that is fitted with "stop start" technology as are many new cars, the benefit is in the title, if you stop the car the engine turns off therefore saving fuel, however, this is not possible if you are crawling to the lights as the car doesn't actually get a chance to stop, I actually tried stopping once and watched the crawling gap in front of me get larger and larger resulting in the cars behind beeping their horns in anger, so please, close the gap as quickly as possible  to allow other motorists the opportunity to save the Planet.
  • SEAT Alhambra 2.0TDI PD 140Reference - 2.0Tdi PD 140 fails at 47000 miles 19 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I bought the car 10 months after first registration by Seat UK with zero miles on the clock. the car would officially be 4 years old in Feb 2012, so technically I have driven the car from zero miles within 3 years.
