Help needed 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Alfas head office were next to useless and simply took down my details and said they would get back to me,but told me to expect to wait 14 days. i bought the car as new and with a manaufacturers warranty to give peace of mind,as i use a car for business. This isnt the first issue i have had with it and frankly [company name] are useless and downright awkward. -
Oil (again !) 29 Nov 2002 (Forum)
My Bora is shortly coming to the end of its warranty, and I'll be servicing it myself from then on. The question, which i've asked before but not understood the answer to, is what oil to use ? The technical data section of the handbook specifies 'Multigrade high lubricity oils' to VW 500 00 or VW 502 00, or High lubricity oils to VW 501 01. -
Seat Leon - Dealerships refusing repair 8 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Bought a used car less than 6 months ago and past 2 months I have been topping up engine oil every couple of week and now it’s every week so I got in touch with a dealerships who suggest I get a mechanic to have a look. -
Any - The death of recycled parts? 24 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Met up with one of my old colleagues at our annual reunion. Has all his own VAG software and uses it regularly to fault find on his A4 1.8 T But his concerns about how we are being controlled secretly by the motor manufacturers is interesting. Firstly as you know all new parts have to be coupled to the cars main computer. -
Nissan Terrano II - REFUND for 2nd hand car + cost of returning it 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Diagnosis was a problem with the fuel pump which may or may not be mechanical. The warranty is up to £1000 over 12mths but doesn't cover mechanical. The proposed bill - is up to £1300. To me it sounds alot but I've used the same garage for many years and they've always been very fair, so I have to trust them. -
advice re auction purchase 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Obviously there is a problem with this. I called the company that "serviced" the car, and this turns out to be a body shop (a subsidiary of Direct Line according to info from google) which used the panda as a customer car. The person I spoke to told me that they don't service cars and was not sure why the book had been stamped - they have no paperwork to back up the stamps. -
Citroen C4 (2004 - ) - 05 1.4i Well blow me 1 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi all The heater blower fan on our c4 has stopped working in positions 1-3 and only blows in position 4, the fastest setting - which blows like billy-o as you would expect. The car is still under warranty and so we took it to a dealer yesterday (our local one shut last year) and they tell us it needs a new motor. I can't help but think this isn't the case as it actually works on speed 4, so it looks to me to be a broken switch. -
Oil leak dispute 19 May 2006 (Forum)
Can you help me... I purchased a used car on the 28th April. Before purchasing it an oil leak was identified and the agreement made that this would be repaired prior to sale. This was noted on the purchase agreement. I paid cash. 5 days after I took possession of the car, I noticed it was leaking oil again and informed them that day. -
Avensis or Rav4... Opinions please... 29 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I'm buying a new car.... finally decided I'm sick of the Rover 25 (got my use out the warranty tho.... not that I'm saying it was unreliable....) Reading What Car etc, I notice Toyota come out top in a reliability study recently... cool... -
SEAT Ibiza Sport TDi 130 - opinions? 15 May 2003 (Forum)
Right, I'm totally bored with my Jan2001 Honda Accord SE Exec 2.0 VTEC - it's a very nice car and all but it bores the pants off me. It's too big, too soft, too cosy and too much like the sort of car my in-laws should have (whenever I give them a ride anywhere they always say "Ohhhh this is a lovely car, we should get one like this"). -
Where do I stand 23 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Where do I stand on terms of getting something done to fix my car. I'm currently 3years in to 5year finance deal and my car has just decided to break down on me outside the warranty (3 months). I took it to my local vauxhall garage to explain what was wrong, for them to ring me back later that day to say. -
Auctions - Why buy from a dealer?! 12 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I went to Blackbushe car auctions on Friday. Its totally changed my perspective on car buying. I have now experienced first hand that cars are worth diddly squat and shed value like Gary Glitters autograph. I will never again use a dealer because looking at the prices paid for cars you might as well just go to the auction. -
Car and bicycle tyre pumps / inflators and gauges 2 Jul 2024 (Forum)
My dad's Halfords' single barrel pump worked well and lasted for 20+ years, but both its replacement and all of mine since I bought my first car in the late 90s lasted far less, increasingly being of poor build quality and quickly developing faults (though always after the measly 1 year warranty). My bicycle (a previously unwanted but decent hybrid mountain bike) tyres also have 'car tyre' type tyre valves, and it is far easier and quicker to inflate them using the car tyre pump than using a hand pump (which I take with me on rides just in case, as it's light / portable). -
Proper 4x4s 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Right, now its not been that long since I asked for advice as to what to buy to replace my Terracan, but with the recent bad weather I'm starting to regret changing from a 4x4 to a Vectra. So, am probably going to be back in the market for a 4x4 either to use as my car, or as a second car to take when the weather is bad or I need to visit a site. Budget - hmm, main car: upto £15K ish, second car: upto £7.5/8K So, my options:- Hyundai Terracan - had one, liked it. -
Ford Transit 2.5D 1994 - Motor failure - repair disaster 5 Nov 2018 (Forum)
It is on our way back in the middle of a highway that engine started to make loud noise and we started to loose power. We drove for about 600 meters before we finally stopped at the junctions. The car would not start again. I saw some oily liquid under the car and on lower part of the engine. Called a towing truck and got towed to a car repair chain. They had a quick 5-minute look inside the hood. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Should dealer repair faults? 27 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I wonder if anyone can offer any advice on this: I test drove a used (2001) Ford Focus (Automatic) earlier this week, which was for sale at a local independent garage - it was advertised as having "remote central locking" on AutoTrader... When I test drove the car, the keyfob was missing a battery so the remote part of the central locking didn't work. -
Kia Ceed 3 - Dual Clutch Transmission review 22 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Overall the car shifts gears as expected from an auto. Can't comment on long term reliability but I have the 7-yr warranty if things go wrong. Although I bought a year old car, being approved used, Kia bundled full 7-yr warranty from the date collected. -
Pressure washers. Remind me ... 29 May 2023 (Forum)
Should this be in non-motoring or does it belong here coz I use it to clean the car's wheelarches? Was it GB who bought one a while ago? Can't remember which models were spoken of then. Sorry. My old Karcher 520MH (bought in 2002 for £159) still soldiers on, but must surely fail in my lifetime? -
Ford Fiesta - condensation in fiesta headlight 29 Feb 2016 (Forum)
It's becoming a pain in the butt, as in the past three weeks she's had to have two blown bulbs replaced. The car was dealer bought a few months back, sadly now out of warranty, although all the lights were fine when she bought it. I've heard of a tale about using a hairdryer, but i would like my fellow esteemed forum members to profer any advice if they can. -
Volvo v50 - Volvo v50 - master cylinder failure? ££? 14 Feb 2011 (Forum)
There's no brakes and you can't get it in gear - it just went last night without any apparent warning - died an a junction near home. This has happened before, last time was under warranty at 50,000. Its now done 96,000. Any thoughts on repair costs weighed up against the cars value - its in OK condition, typically i had it valeted last week. It needs to be ultra reliable as its used to run a small business where not turning up is not an option.
