  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 02 2.0 HDi Engine Fault - knocking/jerking 23 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The ECU light isn't on yet but I don't reckon it'll take more than another 20 miles before it does. Obviously the fuel rail pressure sensor was not at fault, or something is causing the fuel rail pressure sensor to prematurely die.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1995 1.4 PTE SEFI erratic misfire when warm 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Various mechanics have looked at it, changed the plugs and leads etc, checked electrics, all to no avail. It is now suggested that the ECU may be at fault and should be replaced, if this is done will the new unit require reprogramming to the car by a dealer, I am told that the coil unit will have to be replaced as well as part of the ECU system.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1998 1.4 Speedometer and rev counter at maximum 19 Jun 2008 (Forum)
When I turn the key on, the speedometer and rev counter dials rortate clockwise to maximum (with the engine off) I just tried driving the car to see if that would reset things but noticed that the trip meter was advancing at a very high rate and, after about 2 miles noticed that about 25000 miles has been added to my odometer reading. I'm suspected that the ECU has ""glitched", so disconneted the power again for abouit a minute and re-connected. The problem remained Can anyone advise on this fault and also advise if, assuming the ECU is faulty, will the odometer reading as of earlier today on be stored somewhere so it can be reset to the corect value when this problem is cured, or am I now stuck with a very high (false) ododmeter reading) (which will kepp increasing a high rate until the problme is cured.
  • Peugeot 405 Petrol (1988 - 1996) - Problem with crank position sensor 10 Aug 2007 (Forum)
All of them read around 380 ohms resistance which is bang on the money according to autodata, problem is all of them only generate around 1.8 volts when cranking the engine but they are supposed to be around 4 - 8 volts according to autodata. My ecu isnt getting any information at all to say that the engine is cranking and therefore will not fire. I have checked the ecu and all is in order through out the input circuits and also the loom is consistent with only a 0.6 ohm resistance start to end.
  • XUD Turbo - lack of grunt 13 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Please see sticky thread on the subject of swearing over in Discussion - DD} So... what does the throttle arm pot tell the ECU? I am inclined to leave as is. The problem followed a wash down of the engine, and clearly, the throttle arm pot got some water into it which has screwed it up permanently. Anyone got any answers/thoughts?
  • TDCi judder around 2200-2700rpm 17 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I've tried cleaning the MAF with Isopropanol, which didn't cure it, but the hesitation feels almost like a MAF fault, as if it is telling the ECU that there is more air getting in than actually is and less fuel is consequently injected. Anyone got any suggestions for other potential causes? It's a 2002 Volvo S40 with a Renault DCi (surprise surprise) engine.
  • Vw Golf Immobliser (mk 3) 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Also it has blanked out the fuel gauge, clock and mileage on two different instrument clusters. Can I default something in the engine ECU, as thats all I've got, to get me going? A scan does not pick up any other modules, eg Instruments or immobiliser. There must be either A pin I can short out or the software equivelant of, to 'fool the ecu that all is well and allow the car to sart and the instruments to start working again.
  • VX Vectra Rev counter input? 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I plan to change the fuel filter as a first step as it probably needs doing anyways. The fault codes stored in the ECU as far as I can tell relate to an issue I had about 3 years ago, if I can find the Radio code I will clear the ECU to make sure. Any help appreciated.
  • Ford EECV PCM 14 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 1.25 fiesta which I believe has a EECV PCM at its heart. What I would like to acquire is a pin-out diagram for the ECU, as I have suspicions about my Lambda sensor, and want to try and establish if it is sending voltages to the ECU which are within the expected range - I have a lap-top I can use to log the values.
  • Renault 19 1.4 Energy Engine change 6 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I havent even started yet for this reason - but does anyone have any clues as to how different the wireing is for the injection unit?? I still dont know if he took the ECU and associated bits out of the other car so it may be a non-starter anyway. Im also slightly worried that the M reg car had a cat and therefore a whole host of associated sensors talking to the ECU :S Also, I guess the injection version of the engine is not much different so could I get away with simply un-bolding the sack of pink fluffy dice off the top and putting the carb (which is still good) from his old engine onto it ?
  • VW Passat Lurching!!!!! 23 Feb 2003 (Forum)
IF so, and I replace it, does the Haynes Book of Lies get it right when they say you have to get the dealer to reset the ecu or will the ecu set itself by it's learning facility. £160 seems a lot to spend to find that it isn't the problem! By the way, this started after my MOT when I had the emissions twiddled with so can you just adjust the meter?
  • Xantia ABS. 6 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Have any of you had personal experience that would confirm if the ECU does really need cleaing on the dealer diagnostic or am I being led up the garden path? David

  • Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - Zetec - Can dealer add cruise control? 8 Apr 2009 (Forum)

  • FIAT 500 (2007 - ) - eco:Drive 28 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Over the weekend I noticed that Fiat are beta testing something called eco:Drive with the Fiat 500. Apparently on some models you can plug a USB stick into the car and the ECU will record data to it. You then transfer the stick to your PC and an application will analyse the data and highlight any areas where you could be driving more economically. Has anyone seen it in action?

  • Vectra trouble codes 4 Aug 2006 (Forum)
My X25XE-engined Vectra often exhibits ecu trouble very briefly, without running problems, but I am unable to make sense of the codes which are usually "10-1-10-10" or "10-3-3-5". These do not comply with the format indicated in the Haynes fault codes manual or the "OBD-II" universal codes.
  • Slow A4 wipers 1 Apr 2006 (Forum)
This happens at both normal, fast and intermitent settings. I wondered if there was a bad earth on the wiper motor, but the motor is tucked away behind the ECU box and the servo, so I gave up trying to get my hands on it. Any ideas? Dave
  • Mondeo Mk3 Engine Cutting out 8 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Now everything has gone back together fine and working fine .... but when I slow down (to make a turn for example) the engine is cutting out. Has disconnecting the battery for 24 hours upset the ECU or something? Any light shed on this would be great! Y
