• Suzuki Vitara Towing weights 21 Feb 2004 (Forum)
  I am selling my 1994 5-door Suzuki Vitara 1.6 16v. A friend is interested provided it will tow her Lunar Clubman 4 berth caravan. I have tried to look up the info on the 'net but it is a bit confusing especially when terms such as 'MIRO' and MTPLM' get bandied about. Could someone just tell me whether or not it will tow it?

  Bought an A1 Towing tow bar for my Renault Scenic from a guy that took it off his Mothers car, downloaded the instructions for fitting from their website, and fitted it to my car. The tow bar is for a 1997 to September 2003 and as my car is a 2001 model, it falls within the range.

  ve tried a forum search, but nothing specific came up for me?.. I?m looking into the minefield that is maximum permissible towing weights. There?s all sorts to think about ? Kerb Weight, Towing Weight, Gross Train Weight blah blah blah?.. The towing car would be a 1997 Passat Tdi 110bhp. I believe the kerb weight is 1375kg and the towing weight is 1500kg.

  Unfortunately, incorrect info was given by Dan Powell to a question “ What is the maximum weight we can tow? I have a 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser. Its weight is 2.2 tonnes and the listed towing weight is 3.0 tonnes. We tow a horse box. Half of our friends say the all up weight of the trailer cannot exceed the weight of the vehicle.

  Just wondered if anyone has experience with towing with electric cars. Only a few seem capable and I think you have to turn off the energy recovery under braking?  Wondering if it’s worth even considering if range Is reduced too much, although I wouldn’t want to tow much more than a folding camper

  When towing a caravan after about an hour the revs shoot up to 3500 and the gearbox shifts down to 2nd gear. If i pull over and restart the car the problem clears for a while. Kia have not been able to help. I have read on the reviews that autos need an additional oil cooler when towing, can this be fitted along with the original or can a larger cooler be fitted?

  The missus is talking about buying a wee single axle caravan, it's around 700kg, which, I'm led to believe, is under the towing weight for our old 306 DT, I'm just not so sure, it's one thing towing something a couple of miles, but not up and down 200 miles of M6. Do you think we'd be better off getting something bigger? TIA!

  Hi,   We need to buy a car which will be able to tow our small cruiser 750kg plus outboard and luggage, (say 800 -850 kg) on a new aluminium trailer, with one axle.  Don't mind second hand or new but budget 14 - 15 K.  We haven't towed before and will need the car to be comfortable for some local and motorway driving .

  Hi I have a peugeot 406 2 litre HDI Deisel estate on a 51 plate and when we tow our caravan it overheats and we end up with the heating on full and windows down, I have towed this caravan before with a vectra and had no problems can you  suggest what i can do to stop the overheating Thank you Shell

  A while ago it was said that you should think twice about buying a car that had a towbar fitted as it possible it has more wear to the gearbox/suspension than a car that has not been used for towing. Is this in fact correct? Would a car have had to do frequent heavy towing to see any difference in reliability? The car I am looking at it a Y reg focus diesel with 90,000 miles on it.
