  I top up the coolant when it goes below the limit, but coolant loss has obviously sped up since it started coming out of the cap. Is it time for a new radiator. I don\'t understand why is pouring out of the cap.

  Yet again our vauxhall carlton! Had a new thermostat fitted last weekend and it has been leaking coolant externally since. I thought it was an airlock so I opened the expansion tank and ran the engine the coolant ran over, I sqeezed the pipes into and out of the radiator and it seemed ok for a day. Anyway its leaking coolant again, the temperature guage is running hotter than normal and the heaters are cold.

  Anyway got new cap from vw garage and g12 coolant - is this the right stuff - before flushing the coolant was blueish, slightly blue after flush. Ive filled the tank back up (this evening) with water (took about 1 litre) and ran the engine, squeezed pipes, put in some more water and bit of coolant.

  I have an N reg Honda Civic 1.6 auto that is getting through loads of coolant, it has also broken the radiator cap assembly (springy bits etc) twice.  I stopped today to park and steam was coming from the front right of the car where the rad and coolant tank is, seems like the coolant is being blown out of the coolant reservoir from some sort of pressure build up.

  I want to change the coolant on our 1.5dci with air con. Usually this job is straightforward - remove bottom hose , empty , fill and bleed but I can't find an easy way to get at the bottom hose to let the coolant out. Any one had experience of this vehicle?

  A poster suggested in another thread http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=4&t=23338 that he uses distilled water in his coolant. Is this common practice? I should have thought that the inhibitors in normal coolant would have been sufficiently powerful that - like in a central heating system - tap water is perfectly adequate for use.

  I\'m due to change the coolant on the wifes Rover 25. I\'ve got some Halfords anti-freeze that is to BS6580 spec but the manual I\'ve got says that this spec has been replaced by OAT coolant. Can I still use the old type or will it damage the engine.

  I went back to Halfords and purchased a 5l coolant/antifreeze and topped it up. The coolant started to glug glug out the tank and the tank was empty again, I left it and went inside to watch a few YouTube videos and do more research. From what I could gauge a coolant tank can hold 3-5lts so I topped it up the next morning, this time the coolant stayed in the tank, success!

  Antifreeze / coolant used to be simple, you tested the fluid with a hydrometer & if the reading showed too little Antifreeze / coolant you topped up or replaced the fluid.   There was one grade of antifreeze / coolant, manufactured to BS6580 (1992) and it was Blue.

  Having just taken ownership of an MG TF, I need to keep an eye on the coolant religiously to avoid HGF. I am not convinced that the coolant in the tank is O.A.T, so would therefore like to drain and flush it and refill. Time and hours of daylight are a problem right now so how much would a garage charge for this, roughly?

  I'm looking to change the coolant at the same time as the cam belt, tensioner and water pump on a 1.5 dCi Renault. The original coolant is a fluorescent lime green colour. Most "recommended" aftermarket brews are red. Should I stick with the more expensive Renault brew or will one of the so called "universal" 4 or 5 year types do?

  Re replacing local Vw suggested that it was not necessary to drain coolant providing cap on header tank was not removed. That is minimal coolant loss if cap on header tank is maintained. Can anyone explain or has anyone done this and can offer advice. Ian

  Hi, could anyone shed any light on why the dashboard coolant temperature light should be on? The vehicle is a Fiat Ducato 2.8D 1998. The temperature gauge shows normal. The coolant level is ok. Theres no apparent leaks. The engine doesn't seem hot (rocker cover is cool) Top hose into radiator is hot, bottom hose is quite hot (not cool) There is a slight hot coolant smell in the cab when engines been running a while.

The Honda coolant is not so expensive (about 25 pounds / 5 L), but as the previous owner of Mazda, I have a 5L bottle of high quality genuine Mazda F22 Long Life coolant: "Mazda FL22 coolant comes as a pre-diluted solution with a 55% concentration.

  The chap put some blue coolant and some water in to test how bad the problem was and it basically disappeared. I've been looking to get some more coolant to top it up and now find out that there are different colours. I have no idea what colour the coolant was when it was there.
