Battery Reliability 27 Aug 2024 (Forum)
I did a straw poll amongst friends and nobody has had to replace a duff battery recently; some cars over 8 years old still have their original batteries fitted. As far as I am aware battery technology has not changed so why the dramatic improvement in reliability? Or has reliability not improved? -
Toyota Yaris 1.3 - Auto gearbox intermittent no drive 31 Jan 2022 (Forum)
My daughter in laws 22 year old Yaris has developed a fault with the auto gearbox. On one occasion the car failed to select reverse, then forward and after three attempts she switched the engine off a few times and eventually she was able to get drive. -
Any - Changing cars for the sake of it - advise given 28 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Before the pandemic, many times I was asked to comment about this model or the other by friends/colleagues/family etc', and in many cases it was seeking... -
Nissan Qashqai - Worth paying more for a 2018/19 Qashqui automatic? 29 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy a newish second hand qashqui automatic. There's rather a hugh price difference between the pre-2018 models with the old CVT/Xtronic gearboxes and the new DVT gearboxes. I've had a CVT qashqui before and didn't mind it, though I gather its not terribly highly thought of by car enthusiasts. I'm not really an enthusiast, just looking for a reliable, comfortable car that gets me and my kids from A-B. -
Renault Clio - 2015 Renault Clio Tce Water Pump 15 Oct 2019 (Forum)
My wife's Clio started to make an engine noise 3 weeks ago which was diagnosed as a water pump. The car is 4.5 years old and done 22000 miles as it is used as a second car. The garage ordered a pump and was promised it 2 days later. However they were then told that there isn't one in the UK. This week they have loaned my wife a demonstrator but still no delivery date. -
Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 29-12-2018 Part 2 2 Jan 2019 (Forum)
On the subject of corroded rear disks on a Qashqai my neighbour thought he would change the disks & pads for his daughter. Dealer wanted £300. He bought the Pagid disks & pads for £100 (Pagid are the OEM) - jacked the car up & was snookered by the electronic brake system - you need a electronic diag tool to retract the old pads. He put the wheel on & left the car as was - he is still looking for help on this as far as I know. -
Peugeot 2008 - Main computer gubbins 8 Aug 2018 (Forum)
As the car came new from this dealer is not 4 years old and has just over 30k registered miles should I be asking for a contribution and if so from whom? Thank you for any advice Colin S -
Toyota Yaris - Are safety recalls mandatory? 1 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Is it legally mandatory to get this work done? Last time I was hanging about at the dealers for half a day, while they tried to sell me a new car! Let's face it, the car is 12 yrs old, with minimal resale value. And the passenger seat is rarely used! The chances of anything dangerous happening are pretty miniscule, I would guess. -
C3 Picasso or Kangoo - Newish diesel for me? 5 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I've been looking to buy a car up to 5 years old .. Diesel (cheaper tax reasons) But I've been told the DPF on diesels isn't for me .. I will literally drive the car for about 10 mins day (loading up parcels to take to the PO literally 4 minute drive away) ... weekends I would use it for longer trips, days out etc ... and only about 3 times a year to load up with camping stuff and go on long journeys.. -
VW Polo - How slow is too slow? 28 Apr 2014 (Forum)
David Ross on the site reviews the updated Polo and states that the 1 litre engine that replaces the old 1.2 is actually quicker. Looking at its stats the 0-62mph is 15.5 seconds. yes I know that this is regarded as largely irrelevant by many these days and in the real world it is the time taken to accelerate in gear and how torquey the car is. -
Ford Fiesta R reg - Immobiliser reset sequence 11 Aug 2013 (Forum)
R reg without remote keys. I don't have the books for this car I have inherited. Used the second key which I now suspect had not been sync'd and the car won't start. All the lights are on but nothing else. I had this problem before on my old mondeo so I know there is a sequence but without the book I'm stuck. -
Ford C-Max - Small End Issues 6 Jul 2012 (Forum)
My 1.8 TDCi (2009 plate) car has completely died due to an engine problem with the gudgeon pin affecting the bearings. It has just over 69000 miles on the clock and is nearly 3years old. It has been serviced at 12435, 26873, 47132 (with a further two since then) and was due to go in for its service & MOT in June (where they identified a major engine problem). -
Anyone seen anything unusual/fantastical/mad etc 2 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I had to start another of these threads as I saw a Lancia Delta this morning (doing a fair old lick on the motorway I might add). I've never seen one before. Funny looking; kind of somewhere between crossover and softroader size. I also saw a car with a badge I've never seen before - I had the distinct feeling it was American by the styling of the car. -
Ford Focus 1.6 year 2000 auto - Cambelt damage 12 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Admittedly, the car is 11 years old but has a new MOT and in very good condition, only 65,000 on the clock and has been in the family for 6 years. What is a second hand engine? Is it a factory reconditioned one? -
Ford Mondeo Titanium X, 2.0 TDCi (2009 / 59 plate) - used Mondeo - high mileage for age... 25 May 2011 (Forum)
I'm just about to buy a Mondeo (2009, 59 plate Titanium X) and have found a few really top spec cars but with fairly high mileage (18 months old, c38-40,000 on the clock). the cars still have the 18 months left on manufacturers warranty, are HP checked and have FSH with a recent major service. -
Toyota Corolla Verso - Low mileage - bearing gone 5 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Went for a test drive in a verso (main dealer) that had done under 35k miles and was 4 years old. Straight away I heard a noise like a wheel bearing along with the car stalling once and nearly stalling when coming up to lights, i.e. braking from 40 or 50 and then coasting in neutral from 5 or 10 mph. -

Rust. 30 Dec 2009 (Forum)
No, it blinking well hadn't. The flipping jacking point had disappeared up inside the bodywork somewhere, and the car was slowly descending. Drat and double drat. The last time I saw such was when the N/S jacking point on an old Morris - a tubular affair with a rubber bung in the end to (try and) keep the muck out of it - actually fell off when a wheel was being changed. -
Ford StreetKa (2003 - ) - 03 1.6 Wishbone bushes 5 Oct 2009 (Forum)
