Citroen - 2006 Dispatch HDI- any good? 13 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Needing a replacement for the old escort estate. I've been looking at a Citroen Dispatch van, 2006 plate 2.0HDI with 22k miles. Any tips or things to watch out for? I tend to keep my cars until they're ready for scrap, do all my own maintenance etc and need a van that isn't too big and can carry 2 off road motorbikes. -
Vauxhall - Movano Steering Wheel replacement 21 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I am looking to replace the steering wheel on my trusty old van, as its a bit manky! Is this a simple job of finding another I like and bolting it on? Do most cars/vans have a "universal" mount, or do they all differ? Will this effect MOT/insurance? Thanks, Dan {Dan, I've edited in the Van I *think* you're referring to. -
'93 Rover 214 front brake pads 25 Jul 2007 (Forum)
my front brake pads need changed now if not sooner:) Anyone experience of these? I've done plenty of the old Ford type with pins that need drifted out and Toyota ones that you undo a bolt and half the caliper swings up out the way but these look a bit different again. I've not got a workshop manual for this car (yet) so would appreciate some pointers or even a link to somewhere that shows it. -
VaG PD diesels - why are only some noisy 20 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Has anyone got any theories as to why there is such a difference in external noisyness (at tickover) of the good old VaG 1.9 & 2.0 PD diesels. Some seem to be 'common-rail' quiet whilst other seem quite clattery. Having owned 2 cars with this engine and observed many others I can't figure it out. Is it fuel, hard driving, soft driving or just out and out mileage that quietens them ? -
Retro Fit 6th Seat ? 18 Jun 2007 (Forum)
We have a four year old Honda CRV which has been a great car and would be for another six years I guess. The problem is we need a 6th seat for occassional accomodation of a young child. The boot area is plenty big enough, in fact bigger than most 7-seaters we have looked at, so the question is: Do you know of any firms that will fit a legal fold-up seat or seats in the luggage area? -
Corsa (53 Reg) Radio Wiring 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I have recently Purchased a "VRCD500-SDU" cd/mp3 Player for my vauxhall corsa 1.0L 2003. I started to fit it but have no wiring guide for the wires at the back of the old Radio "Blaupunkt Car 2003" (standard tape machine with corsa's of this type). I Just wondered if anyone had a guide as to which wire is which or if nayone knew and would let me know. Any reply would be great, thanks very much, Swifty -
Nissan Micra 1993 - cold starting 4 Oct 2006 (Forum)

Astra vibration on moving off 15 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Now that my Astra is run in, at just over 5000 miles, it has developed a brief vibration patch, which occurs when I move off, at about 1000-1200 revs, forward or reverse. The car is a 1.6 petrol, one year old, and is very smooth at all other times. I have heard of clutch judder but I don't think it is this, as the patch is quite brief. It doesn't seem to affect anything, and I wonder if any others do this. -
Rattly Toyota's 26 May 2006 (Forum)
HJ reported a perpetual rattle in the long term Avensis and I notice the CBCB for new IS200 has reports of rattles from the front. I was reading an old car mag recently and the RX300 test driver complained of rattles. Does anyone else hear about this or is it me ? -
MG PA 1935 1 Apr 2006 (Forum)
It doesn't have the original engine, it was replaced with a Ford engine many years ago (in excess of 40) due to the original engine constantly failing. It still runs ok and the body work is in good condition for a 71 year old car! What he wants to know, is how much is this worth before and after restoration? And where would be the best place to advertise this? Cheers Chris -
Which CC for me 29 Mar 2006 (Forum)

mirror clash 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
"he came round the corner like bat out of hell doing 60 and smashed me mirror off" She has his name, address and phone number but as a grumpy old man I don't know if we're going to get anything out of this. No admission of liability; no car reg no.; no insurance company; no witnesses. It's a local address so I can find out the reg no. easily enough but will it do any good? -
Is the extended warranty worth it? 10 Oct 2005 (Forum)
My Mitsubishi Galant 2.0 Classic will be 3 years old in two weeks time. I rang my Mitsubishi dealer today and they quoted me £636 to extend the manufacturers warranty for 12 months (this includes breakdown cover). Do you think this is worth it? I am thinking of selling the car within the next 9 months or so - would having a manufaturers warranty make a big difference to the money I might get for it (I estimate it is worth around £5500)? -
Dunlop SP6 - which decade? 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Hi I've just noticed that the new tyre I got from KwikFit has a slow puncture in it. Anyway, I've now fitted the spare to take me home 50 miles but I'm not sure how old it is. It's a Dunlop SP6 with a DOT date code of 019, which is the 1st week in the 9th year. Question is, is this 1999; or when the car was built, 1989? If anyone knows when Dunlop stopped producing this tyre it would be much appreciated. -------------- Mike Farrow -
Terrano diesel lumpy tickover 21 Mar 2005 (Forum)
On a 1999 Terrano 2.7tdi automatic the tickover is erratic sometimes and at other times displays a "hysteresis" pattern (thrum thrum thrum like an old commercial diesel). however normal running is OK and fuel economy as normal. Car is regularly serviced so filters should not be clogged. Have tried Redex diesel in a tank of fuel without much success. -
astra 1.8 sri 17 Mar 2005 (Forum)
They say that it seems to be drawing in excessive air as it carries on running when the air filter inlet is temporarily blocked with a rag!!?? The car has done 77000 miles. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks -
Obtaining Insurance in the US 23 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I'm shortly leaving the UK to work in California for a couple of years. Whilst the thought of cheap cars and even cheaper petrol is nice, I'm having nightmares about insurance. Will my fourteen years of incident free motoring in the UK be considered by US insurers or am I going to be in the same risk category as a newly qualified sixteen year old who only had to drive round the block once to get his license? -
Mitsubishi FTO - what to look for 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
There's a few for sale within a 40 mile radius (Autotrader!) AFAIK they will all be grey import and 8-9 years old. I don't know a vast amount about these cars - apart from that they suffer the usual Mitsi idle control and rattling tappet problems. Is there anything else I should look for (esp. body/trim wise)?
