  On a 1999 Terrano 2.7tdi automatic the tickover is erratic sometimes and at other times displays a "hysteresis" pattern (thrum thrum thrum like an old commercial diesel). however normal running is OK and fuel economy as normal. Car is regularly serviced so filters should not be clogged. Have tried Redex diesel in a tank of fuel without much success. Any ideas? Not too worried because I'm trading it in soon and the problem is probably not bad enough for dealer to notice.

  The car did the same, twice. We got the AA to pick us up and take us home. Once home I changed the fuel filter (i had a spare) and it still wouldn't get started. I thought it could be a problem with the fuel sensor on the dash so went out and got 5 litre of diesel. Made no difference. I then took the fuel pip out from the fuel filter to see what was coming out when i started the engine....there was nothing.

  Can anyone recommend how I should prime a new diesel filter for fittment to a MkIV Golf TDI engine. There is no manually operated pump to prime the fuel system - or if there is I cant locate it..... It also states in the handbook that if you run out of fuel, it may take the engine longer than normal to start - it specifies up to one minute - as the system must be freed of air.

  I took it to the dealer but no error codes were found so they recommended I take the car for a monthly drive on the motorway for 20-30 minutes in 4th gear with revs between 3,000-4,000 rpm and that should fix the problem. So I am trying to do that. Is it also a good idea to use a diesel fuel additive to clean the Diesel Particle Filter (DPF)?   Despite colour codes and different size nozzles etc, it's pretty obvious that passive methods of avoiding using the wrong fuel on forecourts aren't working. What leads to the worse consequences - putting petrol in a diesel car, or diesel in a petrol car? I am looking for a used car - but there's no way of knowing about errors made in its refuelling history.

  RENAULT KANGOO 1.9 DIESEL CODED STOP SOLANOID hello, i have just fitted a diesel pump to my renault kangoo and it didnt pump any fuel through to the injectors , fuel got to the pump but no further . the kangoo is fitted with an imobiliser and i think this stops the fuel stop valve salanoid from oppening using a code. now could i have a new code added , or the old 1 changed , or do i have to take the old solanoid off and fit to the new pump?
