Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - Zetec 1.25 misfire 28 Oct 2007 (Forum)
But if you try and drive it misfires under load .Whan I first got it it misfired on tick over so I changed the usual plugs, leads and the coil pack, which cured the misfire on tick over but not on initial throttle openings or under load. The vehicle has been back to Ford but they cannot find anything wrong on there diagnostic machine. -

Cars that became TV stars 19 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Del boy's Reliant Regal was another which attained a fame way and above it's humble station in life by becomming almost a lead character in the show. Are there any other cars which it is impossible to think of without a TV show or movie automatically appearing in the same thought bubble? -- -

Avoiding using the wrong fuel 22 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Despite colour codes and different size nozzles etc, it's pretty obvious that passive methods of avoiding using the wrong fuel on forecourts aren't working. What leads to the worse consequences - putting petrol in a diesel car, or diesel in a petrol car? I am looking for a used car - but there's no way of knowing about errors made in its refuelling history. Why is it not possible to have a proximity buzzer/alarm that sounds (either on the car or the fuel pump) when the wrong nozzle is waved within a foot or so of the filler pipe? -
Peugeot 307 knocking 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hello, I have a knocking on a peugeot 307 hdi its a 52 plate. it seems to be coming from the front end but this could be decieving, as when you sit on the drivers side it sounds like it is that side. but also when you sit on the passenger side it sounds that side too. You can only hear it when you go over bumps, which leads me to think it might be suspension related. i have checked what i can think of but to no avail. Any tips or pointers would be gratefully received. Cheers, Mark -
Citroen ZX 1.9i Lumpy Acceleration 13 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Picked up what I thought to be a bargain - dusty zx 1.9i 1991 48k on the clock with mots to back it up. test drove really well. after having it a couple of weeks and opening her up a fair bit I have now noticed town driving and low rev acceleration to be lumpy. changed plugs and ht leads but wonder is it worth trying the dist cap/rotor arm? they seem fine to look at, but maybe not underclose inspection. its a bit odd as it was fine and now isn't!!! HELP!! -
Ford Fiesta engine misfires 7 Jun 2006 (Forum)
1995 fiesta 1.25 zetec engine, when starting from cold the engine somtimes misfires.I can smell petrol and it will not responed to the accelorator, after two to three minuets it drives ok but when idling it hesitates before picking up revs.I have renewed the plugs tested the leads with a ohmmeter they seem ok. Following the Haynes manual I tested the ignition coil I could find no resistances I think I must have done something wrong. I cleaned the idle air control valve. Any idears? -
Tyres - Profit? 15 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I was amazed at the price!! £424 for two tyres, I know they are pretty big 255/45/18 but its seems very steep to me?? which leads me to the question... What type of profit are Kwik Fit, ATS, main dealers etc making from tyres? the mark up must be plenty!! Thanks Lee -
Cat damage 29 Oct 2005 (Forum)
At which point it was revved very hard by a '3rd party'to try to drive it onto a ramp. Black smoke ensued at that point. The problem turned out to be HT leads, causing poor ignition. Is it likely that the cat damage occued as a result of the drive home or the high revving - which would have put far more unburnt fuel into the exaust and cat?? Look forward to some opinions! -
Unusual traffic jams 24 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Crossing the railway bridge near our house (one lane controlled by traffic lights) the 2 cars in front of me were driving very very slowly. At first I thought the lead car was having a conversation with the girl on the pavement- but then spotted that in front of him were a family of swans. Common sense also seemed to prevail as a van came up from the other side, saw what was going on so reversed and stopped traffic going through. -
Diesel GlowPlugs - Vauxhall Cavalier 2 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I've got no resistance between ground and my common rail on my Isuzu engined Cavilier. But when I test to the REMOVED feed lead I measure insulation there. There is only 0.9ohms of resistance between the feed side of the glowplug, and the grounded part which screws into the engine. Is that normal? I removed the plugs and tested them on a battery connected onto the feed thread (12V) and to the mounting screw (0V). -
Cavalier hesitation 30 Nov 2004 (Forum)
It also very occasionally runs on when cold, when accelerator pedal is released. Apart from thse problems it runs very well. Plugs, plug leads and distributor have been checked. It never gives any trouble starting. It has been suggested that I replace the sensor which fits into the back of the inlet manifold. Any comments/suggestion would be most welcome. -
Rover 416 R reg stalling problem 18 Oct 2004 (Forum)
It was stood for 3 weeks earlier in the year when I restarted the car it started fine but after 20 seconds cut out I restarted it the engine then ran lumpy and keeps cutting out when returning to tickover. There is no missfire on revving the engine and no smoke. I have changed plugs leads e.t.c but nothing makes any difference. -
Speeding (mostly excl cameras) XX 6 Sep 2004 (Forum)
It is particularly annoying, as there is usually no reason to prevent them from travelling a little faster (speed limits for example). With our auto C5, it means driving along in third gear, which leads to increased fuel consumption. -
Golf Mk IV Bulb Replacement 5 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Hi I need to replace the dipped beam headlight bulb,on a MkIV Golf. Haynes Manual says that you should disconnect battery negative lead - is this necessary and what are the dangers if you dont Manual also refers to halogen and gas discharge types, how do you identify what type is fitted - I suspect halogen. The bulb has a what looks like a lamp shade over it. -
Jump starting 4 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Is the positive/negative earth thing irrelevant now as all cars are the same? Is it still OK to attach battery charger leads directly to the battery terminals, or do similar rules as for jump starting apply? Comments would be very welcome. Cheers. -
The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 18 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
They are going to be discussing regression to the mean and testing whether the apparent reduction in accidents at camera sites is regression to the mean or a measurable actual effect. Siting cameras in places that are safe to exceed the speed limit would lead to people naturally speeding in other places a)to avoid detection and b) because they think cameras are at accident blackspots. This could explain why accidents are starting to go up again as people are speeding in the wrong places. -
Golf GTI cutting out 2 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The car will normally restart straight away and carry on for the rest of the day without problems. Occasionally the car will not restart for several minutes (engine flooded?). I've changed plugs, leads and distributor cap has anyone any ideas as to where to look next?
