  It was clear that the words " replace and fit new diesel filter" had been added on by someone else, in different handwriting. There was also a comment that simply said "engineer notes DMF/clutch" I enquired what this meant and was told it was nothing to worry about, and that it "would need replacing at some point but not yet." I asked if they meant once they were out of the months warranty and was told it wouldn't be covered by the warranty anyway, which I was not given any paperwork for at all.

  Despite driving diesels for a long time, I've become quite turned off modern common rail diesels as I feel they're less reliable with expensive consumables - DPF, DMF and the fragile injection system. I also am keen on converting the next vehicle to dual fuel (to petrol & LPG/propane) to save on running costs & improve emissions. However the van based LAVs tend to have weedy petrols and powerful diesels and I like me some speedy cars!

  No wobble whatsoever when coasting out of gear at any speed, (or with clutch depressed). No wobble when stationary at any revs, so hopefully not clutch or DMF. Wobble felt through seats, floor, but not really through the steering wheel or gearstick. FEELS like it's coming from the front of the van but it's hard to say. Also difficult to say whether the wobble is side to side or front to back etc.

  Nissan 136hp: Turbo will likely fail Renault: EGR valve, potential to run on sump oil Mazda 2.0: Large potential to run on sump oil.  Likely DMF issues. Toyota 2.2: Large potential to blow head gasket Toyota 2.0: "Don't reckon on very high, trouble-free mileages for these engines" Honda 2.2: Failed turbos, high oil consumption, poor economy, Teves ABS issue.

  Overtake on that car is an adventure that I do not wish to entertain again. However the SDI, does not have a Turbo or a DMF or a DPF. All the things that apparently I wish to avoid. Before opening the discussion is important to mention that I do most of the work on my own cars and after succesfully tackling the Head Gaskets on my 2003 outback, I am confident to do most jobs that wont require two people, a specialized place or specialized tools.
