  • Peugeot 407 SW (2004 - ) - 04 2.0 HDi Overheated 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi The coolant bypass hose on my 54 reg 2.0 HDI burst and caused the engine to overheat and go into limp mode. I managed to replace the hose but when i have refilled the coolant and run the engine I cant get rid of the air bubbles, plus if i top up when cold it justs blows out the expansion bottle as soon as I start the engine.
  • Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.6i boiling in expansion tank 2 Aug 2009 (Forum)
hi all, i wondered if any one could shed light on this ; my 97 rover 216 sli is boiling over in the expansion tank. i have replaced the head gasket, thermostat, coolant temp fan switch, and have bled the cooling system to get rid of air locks, i have removed the ball bearing in the inlet manifold as advised, they is no oil mixed with the coolant, they is no steam coming from the exhast, no leaks anywhere. fan kicks in as it should. the heater is blowing warm air but when i turn it to cold the expantion tank fills up and boils over, the temp gauge dose not seem to move above half way. ????

  • Dealer rip off or common sense ? 22 Oct 2006 (Forum)
When I had the car all servicing was done by the book and the tab picked up by the lease company. Now it's in private hands BiL has carried on the credo of FDSH down to the recent coolant and brake fluid (he's a flyer so a bit....well you know). Now is this a rip off or sensible line to follow. I have never changed brake fluid on a vehicle I've actually owned, but been "sensible" with coolant (you know checking it, making sure any top up is to proper spec).
  • Fiesta '96(P) No heating / cold air only 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Every now and then you get a blast of luke warm air but most of the time they are just cold. I have just renewed the anti-freeze and the coolant level is fine but it was doing this before I changed the coolant anyway. The engine temperature always runs somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of the way up the guage so I am assuming this is OK. Does anyone have any ideas?
  • A4 TDI pours out smoke at idle 2 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Afterwards it started to smoke (white/blue) heavily when idling - v. noticeable in traffic queues, cars behind would back off! There's strong 'sooty' smell but no loss of coolant or oil, performance is unaffected and fuel economy hasn't suffered; the car drives normally. The headgasket was replaced last year (due to coolant loss) c/w valve stem oil seals done at the time and again since.
  • Another waterworks problem - Maestro TD 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
In the last few months I?ve noticed that the coolant hoses on my wife?s Maestro TD are still pressurised after standing overnight. Opening the rad cap and the air blows out. I replaced the radiator cap with no improvement. The engine is running perfectly including the heater.
  • Cooling System Prob / Head Gasket 14 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The Head gasket went on my 1994 Ford Granada (2 Litre DOHC) last week. One of the things I nothiced was the coolant system was pressurising. I just finished replacing the head gasket (after many hours of swearing at the thing) and the coolant system is still pressurising, (even when cold). The head gasket had gone between the water jacket, a piston and the outside of the block.
  • Ford Fiesta 1999 V-reg 1.25 Zetec-SE - Running & idling problems, DTC codes - help please 19 Jun 2010 (Forum)
With regard to the coolant temp malfunction DTC, should I remove the coolant temp sensor again and test it? What resistance values should I be getting from it at what temperatures? Sorry for the very long post, I tried to give all the info I can think of.
  • C'mon!!..HJ's Corsa test. 27 Nov 2006 (Forum)
C'mon Vauxhall.. Why no engine coolant temperature gauge? Why no mention of this omission in your roadtest, HJ? Surely (IMO) a critical instrument? I would not consider a Corsa purely for this reason.
  • overheating - pug 306td 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
i am having a problem with my 306td,it seems to be over pressurising in the coolant pipes i think from drawing in air i dont think its a gasket fault as its brand new.
  • Head gasket test ?? 16 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Could anyone out there please refresh my memory as to the name of manufacturer of the piece of kit used to test for head gasket failure, by looking for carbons ( hydrocarbons perhaps ) in the coolant system ? Thank you, Pete

  • Ford Ka - 2004 Ford KA: blowing cold air and losing coolant 17 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I've had my Ford KA for about seven or eight months now: it's a fantastic little car, starts up fist time without fail and runs like a dream. A couple of months ago I'd run a usual check on the coolant and oil levels and noticed the former was dangerously low: no problem I thought and topped it back up. I tended to do this once every two weeks (no idea if this is normal!). However, it has now gotten to the stage where I'm topping up the car once every three days, if not every day, as it is losing that much water.

  • Citroen Xsara - Citroen xsara ? ECU fault 13 Jun 2012 (Forum)
they checked ECU for codes (there were about six of them) they cleared these off and i took the car back the next day and there were about six codes again.  Two of them matched original codes one related to coolant temp the other causing the ECU to put to much petrol in the fuel mix which is the reason for the car 'coughing' they are convinced that the ECU is faulty because they have replaced the coolant temp sensor already.
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 2005 1.6 coolant fan & FAP issues 13 May 2009 (Forum)
Firstly could anyone confirm the 'HZC' in my VIN sentences me to this potential 'minefield' of expensive problems? secondly the fan (general coolant type, i presume?) seems to be on and off, on a regular basis, both with the engine on and off, long and short trips. Is that normal... what sort of frequency would you expect for FAP regeneration?
  • Alpine pass experience 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Fourthly, and the main point of this post, the next morning I found that the engine had lost about a pint of coolant. There was no obvious sign of a leak anywhere, engine temperature going up the pass had been normal, outside temperature had been below freezing (it was actually snowing at the top). My guess is that due to the altitude change, the pressure cap (25 lb) had been unable to cope and had allowed some blow-off of coolant.
  • Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 00 1.8 Remanufactured engines -WARNING 9 Oct 2008 (Forum)
A remanufactured engine sounded excellent but cost £1337.33 plus fitting by a local garage. After it was fitted, the car was losing very small amounts of coolant; an eggcup full per week initially. I couldn't believe the new engine was leaking so I replaced hoses and radiator - they were old, but no obvious leakage. Coolant loss started again. It got to half a cup to a cup a day by the end of September and I saw coolant running down the side of the block from the head.
  • Bora 2.ol running probs/low mpg 22 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Next I checked the output voltage of the Lambda probes, mine has two, one on the exhaust manifold and one on the Cat. I recorded 0.010v cold and they both climbed to 0.023v when the coolant indicated 90 c(normal). The Lambda probes were fitted but the electrical plugs were disconnected when I tested them. Next I spoke to VW and they said the problem is usually the air mass meter or the coolant temp sensor.
