Jeremy Hicks email address 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Your company also arranged and paid for the road tax at the time of purchase. Consequently, it is only now, on the renewal road tax stage, that your company?s grievous error of advice to me has come to my attention. I now find myself with a car that is insured, MOT and road worthy but not road taxable because of the error made by your company. I have been informed by the DVLA that a V62 Form must be completed as the vehicle is ? -
How much to pay for a 2nd hand car 17 Jan 2005 (Forum)
We have seen the following cars and would like some advice on the prices we should be aiming to pay. 1. 1.8 petrol Passat, S. 13,700 miles on an 04 plate. VW asking price £10,900. Parkers Guide has a retail price for this car at 10,000 miles of £11,300; this price is for a car not from a franchised dealer and not in an 'approved car' scheme. -
Dodgy mechanics 16 Oct 2004 (Forum)
My clutch is playing up on my car, so I took it back to the garage I had it done at to have it looked at/fixed (it\'s 4 months and 5000 miles under a 2 year/20000 miles warranty). I took it back in on the 4th October (last Monday) and I was told that they would need to make a few phone calls and to get back in touch with them later on. -
1999 Passat Electrics, niggles 17 Sep 2004 (Forum)
It can be manually locked from the inside by pressing down the button on that door, but it never stays locked by using the "master" button for all doors. At the start of the year, I did briefly experience a problem with the rear N/S passenger door refusing to unlock when pressing the button on the remote key, but this seemed to go away after happening intermittently three or four times. It's not a major worry if this is all that might happen (I rarely use this function), but I'm concerned that a problem with the central locking could lead to someone being trapped in the car, or the car becoming unlockable. -
VW TDI crankshaft problems 10 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Dear All Just a quick note relating to my damaged VW Golf Mark 4 TDI crankshaft. Having been a VW \'nut\' all my motoring life (beetles/type 3\'s/golfs etc) I became the owner of a 2000 model 110bhp Golf TDI. Brilliant car etc. Treat her like my baby with regard to condition/service etc. 85k mileage always taken in to VW dealers for service (prior to service interval dates) always run on premium Mobil one oil etc etc. taken into dealer for 60k cambelt change (at 56k - early)got car back - all seemed above board etc. -
A car drowned in the sea..... 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
When I got my car home I put it through one of those car washes with the powerful under car jets twice, and then garaged it up my in-laws, took all the mats out and cleaned them (there was quite a bit of sand in them), soaked as much water as I could out of the footwells (the carpets were absolutely s**den) and left the car to dry out for a couple of days. After that, I never really gave it much thought. However, in the last couple of months a couple of funny things have happened. First, the petrol cap release cable snapped (obviously this runs from the driver's footwell back through the car to the petrol cap), the dealer said it had "just snapped" and there was no reason for it. -
Best legal advice 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I got in the back of the car whereupon the young woman started to aggressively question me as to my driving speed, distances, weather, the other driver?s speed etc. etc. etc. each question came as bullet out of a gun. I didn?t have time to answer even one of them before the next was being fired at me. I then mulishly ignored her having mentally decided that ? -
Green Vs Car 31 Jan 2002 (Forum)
This line of logic normally ends with it being another green/gov conspiracy. Pollution is truly defined as a concentration of a substance(s) in a location where it is not normally/naturally found OR in a higher concentration than normally/naturally found where it HAS the ability to affect other functions of that system. For example, Oxygen can be a pollutant and is terminally toxic at high concentrations, but at normal levels it is essential for aerobic life. -
Wonderful Range Rover USA service 13 Dec 2001 (Forum)
They are also the local Jaguar dealer and let me take a new X type for the afternoon when the RR was not done by 13:00 as promised... this new Jag had all the bells and whistles including a fancy Navigation system that was actualy better than the one in the new Range Rover they let me use (7" screen rather than 5") (BTW I was very impresed with the new X type and I found it's driving position nicer than the S type). There was a posting last week about the J. D. Powers USA rankings where Jag did well and this drew some caustic comments from one reader... but It seems to me that in the US at any rate Ford is making a major effort with their 'import' lines. -
Interest free 29 May 2024 (Forum)
I think the last car I really fancied was my neighbours bright red Fiat 500 Arbath, but it’s a bit too small to work for us even as a second car. Beyond that I’m drifting back to the early naughties or even the 90’s. I’ve driven a recent Golf GTi and found it no fun at all. Very efficient, quick and refined but it just wasn’t fun. Bring back the fun. Even car adverts and motor shows are largely gone, cars are a financial product you rent to get you from A to B as dispassionately as possible. -
Grand estates 5 May 2020 (Forum)
The Granada Mk II 2.8 Ghia again drive well and had tonnes of space. The Mondeo Mk I and Mk I facelift were all great especially the V6’s. The Focus Mk I was a joy to drive yet practical and the Mk II largely the same if a bit less interesting to look at. The late Scorpio estate was a great big slush-mobile too in V6 spec. They didn’t forget the driver with ST versions of the Focus from Mk III onward. -
Ford Europe Update 16 Apr 2019 (Forum)
He is hoping Ford will offer a good finance offer on the Tourneo Connect and Tourneo Grand Connect to compensate for the loss of the models as they still get a lot of family buyers wanting a spacious car. Galaxy and S-Max - says they still sell a few but mainly to fleet and private buyers , rare to sell one on finance. Reckons there is plenty of demand for them both, especially used when they fall around £15k level but did state they are becoming expensive vehicles especially with the new Viglante trim being pushed by Ford. -
Citroen C Crosser 2.2 HDi (currently) - replacing a diesel SUV ? with what? 2 Aug 2017 (Forum)
(yes I know it is really a Mitsubishi Outlander) But most of the time mrs g is using it as her daily commute, it is really rather big, heavy and thirsty for that, and it' s a diesel, we would love to get away from Diesel. Whislt we still need something big ehnough to support university runs to halls and back, something just a notch smaller would be and we could probably give up on seats 6/7. -

Irrelevant - Looking for advice and opinions. 11 Aug 2016 (Forum)
I was told by the dealership that these lines had been removed for safety which is of course pure B/S. Speaking to the Manufacturers customer services, they confirmed that the information was incorrect and the reference lines should be visible. All this is contained in a large unit that also holds SatNav, Bluetooth, the music system and much much more including service information. -

Audi A1 - Reject New Audi 28 Mar 2012 (Forum)
In the time they have had the vehicle they state they have been unable to replicate the fault and the only difference between my vehicle and the other A1's on their forecourt is the paint protection applied to the vehicle, this was applied by an Authorised Professional Detailer who has also applied the same product to 3 identical vehicles and none of those have suffered these issues. -

Audi A4 Cabriolet (Auto) - Warranty Nightmare!!! 19 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I had to explain and forward my email trail of proof that a warranty plan was already accepted via email and the sales rep at the time had advised my warranty was up and running. However they required me to again send a confirmation email that I accepted their T&S's before they could progress my claim and they would not deal with me until I did regardless of the fact of the email trail proof and monies taken. Once I sent the confirmation this morning I had to chase 3 times during the day and finally 10mins before the repairs team closed, I got a phone call saying they have rejected my claim based on the grounds that since taking out the policy I covered only 380miles and therefore the failure must of been progressing before taking out the warranty cover. -
Volkswagen Golf IV - Bizarre insurance dispute 19 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I'll try and condense this as much as I can without missing out any important facts, but its the strangest series of events I've ever heard about and am seriously hoping someone can help give me some pointers The insurance problem is actually happening to a friend, but he struggles to stay calm when talking to people about it so he asked if I would try and make some headway for him In brief here is the series of events In 1986 he got a 5 year ban for drink driving In 1995 he re passed his test and was re-issued with a license In 2005 his insurance company said he needed to swap his license for a picture style one as his paper one was out of date He applied for the picture license which the DVLA sent out but then the insurance company refused to insure him anyway claiming that he had outstanding convictions which had expired, but that he had then never retaken his test When he asked about the alleged convictions as he hadnt (to his knowledge) had any convictions since retaking his test, the insurance company said the DVLA themselves had informed them that he should have surrendered his licence in 1997 and re-applied for his test in 2002 The same DVLA that a month earlier had sent him out his new photo driving licence The insurance company wont give anymore details other than what I have written here, nor will they provide a copy of the letter the DVLA is alleged to have sent them As a result he has had to state that he has been refused insurance each year since, which has meant despite being in his 40's he has been paying more insurance than the average 20 year old He has tried to clear it up before but has never got anywhere with it which isnt helped by him having a short fuse, so with the insurance price hike this year he has asked me to see if someone more reasoned can unravel the mess I was planning to start with the DVLA themselves which means going into one of their offices where I am hoping a complete driver history should be able to be obtained in hard copy including all convictions, driving tests and the current licence status The only "odd" thing I have noticed whilst going through all of the paperwork he has acquired over the years is that on his second licence it lists the date he passed his test, then the date the license was issued but then also lists a date 10 months after that it should be returned (that was on there when the license was first printed incase that isnt clear rather than being added later) I've never seen a licence issued with a note to return it 10 months later before and that does seem a bit strange by itself Especially as it was around 10 years after that licence was issued that the DVLA sent him out a new photo ID even though they apparently told his insurance company he hadnt had a valid licence for the previous 8 years Has anyone else come across anything this silly before?
