Peugeot 406 Diesel Estate Disk Brakes 9 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Less than 600 miles later, it was back in the dealers workshop on May 17, because of wheel judder. This time the front hub bearings and wheel hubs were replaced because ?that?s the only thing we haven?t tried yet?. Including replacing a drive belt, the total bill to me was £510. I've spoken to Peugeot Customer Service and got nowhere. Their response was as follows: Peugeot will not refund the money as it "could be a problem with vehicle causing the disk wear" (or words to that effect) The disks currently fitted (on 28.06.02) are Girling The disks fitted 17.05.02 and on 15.04.02 were Bendix.

It will join the S series to be able to compete with Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Daimler will not stop providing the courtesy of brand new cars to customers.

Volvo V40 phase 1, 2.0 Xi - Is it about time I parted company with:- 14 Jun 2011 (Forum)
question being...should i :- trade it in for an expected £500-800 as the tax, mot, service. is all due in the next 2 months. and buy a honda civic 2.0 type s, or a skoda fabia vrs, or a hyundai coupe s3 2.0..... or just spend some money trying to fix this strange noise than only happens when cold for the first 1 or 2 standing starts....its just on the back of my mind that any cash i spend on this car is wasted and might be better put towards something newer. even though i'd also loose money in depreciation on the newer cars compaired to my volvo...

New Car Donation Website 19 Nov 2009 (Forum)
We pick up any car, roadworthy or not, and either sell or scrap it, donating all the proceeds of the sale to the charity of the former owner?s choice. There is no charge for this service as we account for all costs. The only costs that are taken out of the donation are the auction house charges, which we cannot avoid. All other costs (such as petrol, vehicle insurance etc.) are carried by Giveacar and by our volunteers.

Buying a car. Can you help with the 3Ws and H? 16 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I looked into the scrappage scheme, having been offered a friend's qualifying cast off that needed £400 to get it through it's MoT. The figures didn't stack up though on anything larger than a basic spec petrol or diesel Golf S. Anything bigger and I could negotiate a higher discount as a retail customer with no trade-in, certainly among the 'premier' manufacturer brands. Lastly, cash (earning me only 2% a year) or business contract hire thinking about future depreciation from current heady market heights?

                BMW 3-Series E36 (1991 - 1998) - 94 2.5l Electric Windows & Sunroof Not Working 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have electric windows in both the front and back of my car, and none of them work - using any switch - however, the switches either side of the Gear Stick are illuminated - so surely there is power going to them? The sunroof is not working either, and the switch is not illuminated. I read that some older E36's have a trip switch by the steering wheel. The only thing I can see under my steering wheel (in the centre) is a mental chunk that looks like it's part of the column. Not a switch. Does anyone have a pic of the location of the trip switch?

New car under scrappage or older second hand one? 2 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I already have a pretty good idea what to look for on the used market. I made similar thread about this car about a year ago, but they have spent £100's on repairs since then.

                SAAB 9-5 (1997 - 2009) - Blown turbo woes 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I could write several pages on this but I will spare you. I cannot see how she has any come back. I told her to write to the dealer?s MD and copy to the group MD, Saab customer relations and trading standards. At the least that will release some of the pent-up aggression. What do you think? Bad luck? Incompetance? Negligence? Are service technicians over dependent on diagnostics?

Confession; I was a git today. 12 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Every month or two, the red Polo has alarmed one or other of the family; she's had my son off his bike through not paying attention; she's failed to see me on my bike a few times; she's turned the normally calm Mrs H into a venomous witch and she' s whacked my door mirror after parking too close before Christmas. Today, I was towing the trailer, preparing to turn left into the main road when along comes Mrs Polo at some unfeasible speed turning right into the lane, cutting the corner and ignoring the road markings.

                Peugeot 206 CC (2000 - 2007) - 01 1.6 head gasket repair quotes 24 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I've now had a phone call to say the brakes are fine (50% worn and they'd replace if I insisted) but that the head gasket is broken. They've told me that I'm fine to drive it for now,a s long as I top the water up regularly, but not to leave it too long before getting the work done. They advise a new head gasket, cam belt and thermostat all at once as they'll need to overhaul the engine so may as well do it in one go.

New Small Cars - nothing to buy... 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
My Colt 3dr is now almost 3 years old and performed well, I've had a couple of minor issues with regards to rattles and Mitsubishi customer service but nothing that would prevent me from buying the same model/brand again, especially as the number one factor space is well taken care of. The Honda garage had a few new Jazz models around all of different specs. I had a sit in the 1.2 S version, very well put together and fantastic quality of materials, it all had a nice feel. The space is a slight improvement on the old model, however the seat is to high at the lowest position, the angle of the seat isn't great and it doesn't go back as far as I require.

                Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.6 Full Beam issue, now disabled on car 10 Dec 2008 (Forum)
As I was on a busy main road while it was raining I could not really get out of the car and start messing about with fuses, so I had to drive through the town with full beam on (much to the annoyance of other drivers) until I got to SWMBO?s house where I could then have a look at what do to. Removing the fuse box cover only found the fuse pattern to be numbered requiring the manual to correspond to the fuses, which I did not have in my car.

                `Tub O lard`? or shattered glass skeleton? WW1 29 Sep 2008 (Forum)
We were looking at a fleet of Harley`s outside `Hill 60`. Very nice too. Gleaming paint and chrome. Big old lads heaving into the saddles, bellies protruding and `love handles` extruding to the rear. At least the `old` lasses had made an effort and there was just a hint of the nymph of 40 years ago.

                Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - i-CTDi long term update 31 May 2008 (Forum)
Paint chips on the ungalvanised bonnet remain a problem, the front door trims rattle both with moderate bass on the stereo, but also with rough road surfaces. Sidelights are the devils own job to change and consequently mine?s been out for a month despite me having the spare bulb. The massively useful seat folding mechanism on the drivers (heavier) side needs adjustment. Some of the switch backlighting has started to blow.

Car hire troubles 11 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Spoke to them today and they tell me no compensation - the voucher is all I'm getting. Pretty staggering considering I must have spent a couple £1000's on rentals with this company over the last two years. I told the CS manager that they wouldn't be getting any of my business, but she didn't seem phased by this. Seems to me that despite all the hype about a 'service economy' that really CS is deteriorating very badly.

Volvo Clutch repair botched? Any advice? 17 Aug 2006 (Forum)
However, I quickly became aware that the gear stick position had changed; when I selected gears 1, 3 or 5 the gear stick was against the dashboard fascia (ie too far forward). This did not seem to make much difference to the car?s operation; it just seemed to foul access to the ashtray, etc. I continued to drive the car normally, but went back to the garage a week later and explained the problem. The garage asked me to bring the car back on the following Monday; but made no suggestion that I should not drive the car and I mentioned that I was continuing to drive it.

The Car Buying Experience 24 Sep 2005 (Forum)
That was 2 years ago when I changed the Bora for a Skoda. 2 years. Amazing to think the local VW dealer hasn't has any more Bora TDI 130's in in two years, or the Honda dealer any more Civic VTEC's, because they both promised to let me know, and I'm still waiting for the call And if you thought things at the 'bottom end' of the market were any better, think again.

A tale of two renaults 14 Jun 2005 (Forum)
So over two visits a week apart Laguna has had 36k miles service, new wiper blades all round, new clutch master cylinder, new rear brake calliper, pads all round, and as it has a bent front alloy (n/s/f inner) they dumped a new one in the boot. It needs new rubber all round so it will get used then. Renault 2 is first courtesy car, A Modus, A 1.6 auto Modus to be precise. This will be biased, because as you know I am a Renault lover.

Synthetic oil or not? 1 Jan 2005 (Forum)
We use several different grades of this base oil, where appropriate. This is the ?synthetic? which is always used in cheap oils that are labelled ?synthetic?. Yes it?s a cruel world, you get what you pay for! Now, you may ask, why are these special mineral oils called ?synthetic?? Well, it was all sorted in a legal battle that took place in the USA about ten years ago.
