  I would welcome a bit of advice about what I should pay for a 2nd hand car. I need to change my current Passat for a similar sized car asap.   As you will possibly remember the wife has been a very happy Kia Ceed SW CRDi owner for nearly 5 years. Last October she "inherited" my dads 7 1/2 year old Nissan Micra when he gave up driving. Since then we have been coping with 4 cars in the household reasonably well but space is tight and about to get tighter (loosing a garage and carport in house move) so something had to go.

  I have a diesel mower with a simple, old diesel motor, TUD5. I bought the machine not running. I have changed out the motor as old one had no compression. ( 4000hrs ) The new motor has 66000km and is as should be. Compression.400+ on all cylinders.

  I lease a car. From new.  Now 4yrs old and end of lease. I am retiring. I want to keep the car however uk tax laws say I can't buy it.  But a mate can.  So one of my mates buys it. I lend him the money, v5 goes in his name for a week then he sells it for a £1 to me.

  On average they are between five to eight years old.  With the slow  return to work about to begin-I wonder how many flat battery, locked brakes and non starting callouts there might be in the next few days? If none-then isn't it amazing how modern cars can be left static for such a long period without any basic care and maintenance?

  Hi everyone, First time posting here. I was after some advice please as I'm looking for a reliable automatic for my wife's first car. I have found a mazda 2 which is 8 year's old and on it's recent MOT  it mentions two advisories for : surface corrosion rear axle and slight damage n/s outer sill. The previous MOT before that had advisories for surface corrosion rear axle, rear springs.

  With the new headlights being fitted there just seems to be a constant glare. This is more noticeable with cars up to 3 years old. most cars have a thumbwheel to angle headlamps further down but very few seem to use this. It seems bizarre when driving through town with street lights that oncoming cars have headlights and additional lights that just dazzle oncoming drivers and making it difficult to see beyond the glare this is quite apart from older cars all of which seem to have at least one headlight badly aligned (is this not checked at MOT time) Maybe time to rethink dim dip for town driving.

  I have problems with my car after stopping it and getting out when I get back in the engine will start however no gears can be selected if I leave for about 10 minutes or so when I try it again I can select the gears alright the car has been back to the main dealer however they say that they can not find any fault this has been happening for about 9months on and off the car is only 13months old any one any ideas?

  Afternoon All I bought a secondhand car back in Feb from an independent dealer. The car is 6 months old and looked great when I bought it. However a couple of weeks when the warm weather arrived I noticed my A/C wasn't working.

  We often keep our cars to the death in our family as at least we know where we stand. Seeking a used BMW 1 Series I came across a pleasantly specced car that was a gnat's whisker under 10k but SIX years old to the day. I know they have to make a profit but the trade in price of said car is arounf £5750 if you are lucky.
