Skoda Octavia - Octavia engine management light staying on 31 Oct 2015 (Forum)
However in the last few days the engine management light has come on and has stayed on. The car continues to run very well despite this, no loss of power or any increase in fuel consumption. His mechanic has checked it out and says it is a faulty sensor and is not going to cause problems. He did replace a sensor for the radiator fan and the light went out but came on again a short while later and has stayed on since My nephew trusts the garage a lot as he has used them for years and they do all his servicing and MOTS. -
Peugeot 106 - Peugeot 106 Cutting Out (Only After Being Parked). 20 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I have read that the Ignition Control Module is another common problem, but I'm not sure if mine has one. It does have fuel injection. I would really appreciate any help and suggestions as to what I can try next. Many Thanks, Peter -
Kia Sportage 2.0 Auto - Engine has 'died'. What is the cause/solution? 6 Apr 2015 (Forum)
They took it to their mechanic who seems flummoxed and his comment is something along the lines of "the crankshaft and camshaft are not in synch". This sounds like a timing issue, but do the symptoms bear this out? I thought maybe more of a fueling system problem?? Note that my friends have no mechanical knowledge and the mechanic probably speaks little English, I have been trying to understand what is going on with fewer clues than normal! -
Peugeot 1.6 307HDi - Misfuel 15 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Should I top up with V Nitro even now at 3/4 tank? I don't really have the money to get it drained down but worried about the fuel injectors as I know there is a lot of carbon around the injectors. I didn't notice any increased heat or sputtering from the engine and from what I've read its because the diesel will sit at the bottom of the tank with the petrol on top? -

vauxhall corsa 1.7d sri - my sons corsa 29 Aug 2014 (Forum)
my son has had his car nearly 4 months(bought secondhand from a peaugot dealer with finance) and has had so many problems..the day we picked it up we found the bumper to be split(ok when we inspected it) this was done by the garage hitting the kerb on forecourt..this took 2-3 weeks to rectify. the fuel sensor was replaced at 2- 3 weeks..car kept cutting out wheel bearing went at approx 6 weeks heater blower motor was intermittent from the start..now just being replaced by warranty as it has a sporty exhaust..we believed it to be a bit noisier than normal from the start..but it now turns out it needs a particulate filter (vaux dealer has quoted a price of £1200) and garage will not agree to repair. -

ford mondeo estate - difference in 2.0 tdci(115) zetec and duratorq 18 Feb 2014 (Forum)
hi all i bought a 55 plate mondeo estate of a trader 4 months ago and in that time had nothing but problems fuel return rod broke so kept cutting out,,,,injectors packed up so they got replaced then went like a rocket for a day then the engine starting playing up again turns out a cracked head...glad i not paying for all this work....now the trader has been great we have now had a new well second hand engine put in runs and drives nice now.....Now my problem is this 2.0 tdci duratorq engine that has been put in just dont have that quick pull away like the original 2.0 tdci zetec ....compared to the zetec the car needs a kick up the backside to get moving.....i can say its not sluggish it not trying to cut out just dont have that pulling power bottom end.....is this natuaral for a duratorq... -
Ford Fiesta or Zetec - Buying new small ford car. 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Am retired now and car would be used for local trips plus occasional jaunts to the country orvisiting relatives in UK.. My priorities for this car would be eco fuel consumption, good boot space and as small a width as possible so as not to scrape the paint off when I drive it into my single garage. (something I do now with the 1.4 if I am not careful!!). -

Chevrolet Kalos (2005 - 2008) - 2008 1.2 engine problems 21 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Serviced in December. Yellow engine light kept coming on. Went into garage no fault found, but advised to put fuel additive in, got garage to do it. Fine for 10 days has now started stalling, engine just stops...no jumping or juddering, has happenend twice while driving (scary as you lose power steering) and once while sitting at traffic lights. -
Toyota Carina E 1.8GS Petrol 1997 Manual - Intermittent Misfire 14 Oct 2013 (Forum)
The pins in the distributor cap do show signs of wear but they are all intact. The rotor arm is a little rough but intact. The car is regularly serviced and has a FSH. Fuel filter (I think) is about 10,000 miles old. I have tried a new tank of petrol from a reliable source and even some STP petrol injector cleaner but the problem persists. I would be grateful if anyone has any advice! -
Recommendations on used cars! 24 Aug 2013 (Forum)
What sort of things should I be looking for in used diesels? And could anyone recommend reliable, reasonably fuel efficient (or more efficient than my current focus) cars which have sensible servicing costs? Ideally after a car which isn't smaller than the focus! Thanks in advance. -
Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet - Company car loss and replacement 16 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Would love to stay with a Freelander but trying to work out if would be better mileage wise and personal mileage to have something cheaper on fuel such as the Beetle. The car needs 4 seats and needs to be fun or unusual, does anyone have any ideas or experience of the best pence per mile? I live in a rural area so also needs to be something that will survive poor road conditions in winter in the way to the main roads. -
Volvo S40 (2004 - ) - 06 2.0D Starting problem 16 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Initially it had a software download, then a new ignition switch, then the car would not start at all, and was towed to the garage, outside warranty. It had the "sludge" cleaned out of the tank and a new fuel pump. Sadly this has not cured the problem, and the car is still very unreliable when starting. I am about to book the car into the Volvo dealership again (for the sixth time) but really have little confidence that they can fix it. -

Volkswagon Golf S 04 - Steering Wheel Won't Lock VW Golf S 2004 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi guys recently just had my ECU repaired due to a fried circuit board because some idiot i know decided not to put the jump leads on right when i let them use my car to jump start theirs. cost me about £575 in total for a full service aswell so not sure if thats cheap really for a repair on the ecu and a full service plus a fuel pump relay Recently though my steering will not lock and it feels really light, like i can full lock the wheels with the engine not running and the key out of the ignition, today i had a problem getting my engine to start like the wheel had locked and you needed to nudge it to the left or right a little before turning the ignition on i do not understand why this happened when the wheel was unlocked whats the problem does anyone know ? -
Peugeot 308 1.6 HDI 90 hp. - 308 Regular maintenance question 20 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I have never used diesel car neither its maintenance. Could you please help me about it? For example, I couldn't locate the diesel fuel filter? Where is it? Do I need any special tool for that? My car is not 37000 km. and I want to change is soon. Air filter + interior filter are easier. Could you please also tell me if the oil change procedure is the same in this car? -
mercedes 190e 2.0 - misfiring engine 26 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Ive had the car for 5 years and never thrashed the engine .Even now she is starts strait away, but she just wont run smoothly like she used too.My local garage has checked the distibter cap ht leads spark plugs etc and they seem ok.they have surgested that it might be something internal. I was just wondering could it be somthing more strait forward like a blocked and varnished up fuel injector or a partly blocked catalitic convertor. when it strted to run uneven at the time I did open my window to hear the engine and I got a strong smell of sulfer from undernethe the car for a brief second.could it be damaged sensor other electrics somewhere or am I missing something really simple. would welcome some surgestions. thanks.
