Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Cause of higher petrol consumption? 2 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I wonder if this is to do with the oil change or if it is to do with other factors like colder weather for example. Also sometimes it does not start first time and I've got it in my head that the 10w/40 oil is still in the engine and that this thicker oil is causing all my problems. -
Polo TDI PD oil filter replacement 7 Feb 2006 (Forum)
MY Polo 1.4 tdi pd is now out of warranty so I am going to do the oil changes for my car myself. As my engine is a 3 cylinder version of the 4cylinder tdi pd I presume the oil filter canister on the front of engine with the plastic top complete with the large hexagan nut (26mm) on top, is the same as the ones on the larger tdi pd engines. -
Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Long term caretaking 17 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I am looking to run this a long time 10yrs +, hence I chose the PD over the CR diesels. It will go onto variable service intervals which might mean up to 2 years before first oil change. Bit worried this is too long even with the fancy factory fill 507.0 spec oil. HJ recommends running on factory fill oil for first year. To be honest I'm a bit old fashioned and like regular 6 month oil changes. -
Castrol Magnatec Oil 7 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Most modern ford diesel cars are filled with Castrol Magnatec, in the Transit Ford have stated an oil change interval every two years or 36,000 miles with a 9 litre capacity fill. My question is since when was Castrol Magnatec long life? and 36k miles is crazy. -

Cheap oil at "The Range" 4 May 2011 (Forum)
Probably been posted before but the chain store "The Range" sell 5 litres of Unipart branded fully synth oil for £17.99. They have various grades of 5W/30 in both Ford and VAG 505/507 spec as well as generic 10W/40. Changed mine on Sunday - bargain! -
Vectra 2.0 'Oil Lack' Computer warning 13 Feb 2006 (Forum)
When the car idles or is revved otherwise then there is no smoke (or none that I can tell of) I change the oil and filter regularily and the cylinder head has just been reconditioned. Any ideas? I am thinking either a blocked strainer or oil pump (but wouldent that cause the same problem all the time?) -
Cost of Engine oil 31 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Why are people prepared to pay so much? I do my own oil changes with £3.00 oil. 300,000+ miles on my 1990 Montego and no problems yet. Regards Paul Whitehead. -
cam belt in oil with engine flush 4 Mar 2020 (Forum)
I just read of a case of a cam belt in oil disintegrating after an oil change with a flush. It doesn't surprise me but it makes me wonder how common it is for flushes to be used during servicing without any regard for the consequences. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol 1.6 2000yr auto - oil pump 2 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Information please,How easy is it to change the oil pump? What is the proceedure? do you have to remove the sump cover? The problem I have is the tappet noise,I had had a new cam, rockers, and lifters fitted now they say it may be the oil pump. -

New oil from service is black already? 12 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I have just had me Audi A4 2.0 diesel in for its first long life service at 18000 and when I checked the oil the next day it was black. I rang the dealership and they said it was normal and it was the carbon deposits. Surely these would have been removed when the old oil was changed. Is this normal for a diesel and is it ok ? -
Leon Cupra- oil viscosity classification 28 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Next week I shall have the oil changed in our Leon Cupra (02 plate with the AUQ engine) by our local Nissan dealership. They inform me they do not have any synthetic oil, so I will have to provide my own. Fair enough- but what is the optimum viscosity classification for this engine, 5w-30 or 5w-40? -
56 Toyota Rav4 XT4 diesel manual - gear change problems 18 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I HAVE A 56 RAV4 DIESEL MANUAL THAT HAS COVERED 43,000MILES - I HAVE NOTICED PARTICULARLY FIRST THING IN THE MORNING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM CHANGING GEAR - IF IT IS VERY COLD THE GEAR LEVER IS VERY STIFF UNTIL THE CAR IS MOVING & THE OIL WARMS UP - WHEN YOU CHANGE GEAR PARTICULARLY WHEN CHANGING FROM 1st TO 2nd GEAR IT SOMETIMES GRAUNCHES - THE MAIN DEALER WHO SUPPLIED IT IN NOVEMBER IS TAKING IT IN OVERNIGHT NEXT WEEK BUT I AM NOT CONFIDENT THAT HE WILL 'FIND' ANYTHING - HE ALSO SAYS THEY CHANGED FROM FULLY SYNTHETIC SHELL GEAR OIL TO A NON SYNTHETIC ONE TOYOTA RECOMEND AS SHELL SYNTHETIC WAS CAUSING PROBLEMS! -
Engine oil - which brand? 22 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Evening all, i'm interested to hear, for those of us that do our own maintenance (or at least supply a mechanic with the oil we want to be used) what engine oil you are using. Anyone have preferences? For me, I tend to stick with Castrol, although I'm not averse to changing, it's more familiarity than anything. I note Bearmach have just released their own oil, now trying to find out who they've rebadged it from. -
Audi & Castrol SLX OIl 26 Jun 2002 (Forum)
I see in the latest Audi Magazine that they are now suggesting oil change intervals (even with P.D. Diesel engines) of 30,000 miles using Castrol`s fully synthetic oil - SLX, and after initial trials have found no measurable wear on mechanicals. From personable experience with an Audi A4 2.8 V6, it burnt 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles, so over 30k the sump would be replenished several times anyway!! -
Rover 25 2003 - Engine oil tapping clicking noise 10 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I changed the oil filter and engine oil a month ago. Engine was topped up to 3/4 of from max mark. It is still approx 3/4 still. I hear this clicking/tapping noise when I let go off the accelerator pedal each time. -
Nissan Micra - Oil Drained From Car 8 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I'm changing the Timing Chain and its taking a bit longer than I thought but I should have it sorted by at least next week. But in the mean time the car is sitting there without any oil. Is that OK ? -
Volvo S80 (1998 - 2006) - 00 2.4 Oil Light comes on 16 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Just recently bought the Volvo which has a fault of the oil light coming on when warmed up and displaying message "low oil pressure stop safely asap". Replaced the oil sensor switch and changed the oil. But again the car runs fine but after about five miles the light goes on and off and remains on then a little later.
