  Also the temp gauge, reversing lights, coolant level lamp. The ECU lamp is on very faintly & so is the coolant temp warning lamp. I've replaced the fuse that feeds these (No.12 (10A)) but as soon as ignition is switched on the fuse blows, sometimes it's ok until the engine actually first fires up.

  I'd be short of coolant wouldn't I ? Just trying to locate the source of a large puddle in the front passenger footwell after yesterday's heavy rain. Coolant level OK and the liquid didn't smell or taste funny. I've recently had the aerial replaced (it's over the nearside front wheel arch) and I'm wondering if that's been done properly.

  My wife has a 1.4 VTI which is sluggish in starting and has an erratic dashboard temp. display. Research indicates that this may be due to a faulty engine coolant sensor but where is it? I have searched high and low but am unable to locate it! I assume it has one so any help in finding it would be much appreciated.   I run it 2 to 3 times a month and recently it has developed a misfire on cylinder 2. On inspection the plug recess was almost full of water that I take to be coolant as the car is garaged. There is no significant coolant or oil loss, the coolant is clean and there's no sludge in the oil filler or on the dipstick. Could this be anything else but a head gasket failure and how do I check it out?

  The water is 'boiling' in one place near the coolant bottle. It is not circulating throughout the system. The 'Stop check coolant level' light is flashing on the computer display. It has been running fine until i was getting on a motorway 2 days ago i noticed the temp guage was nearly on red and i could hear steaming noises coming from the coolant bottle cap so i pulled into services and allowed it to cool down and then filled it up with water.

  background on car. driving along engine overheated. found aux belts come off and wrapped around viscous fan. tensioner pulley had broken. replaced tensioner and belts with new parts as old ones broken/damaged. topped up coolant, and bled system, run engine, heat through heating, then no heat and then engine overheat. had codes read, came up with coolant temperature sensor issue, replaced sensor assy and thermostat as comes as one unit. top up + bleed cooling system - still overheating. strip down cooling system, checked water pump, oil cooler, flushed radiator and heater matrix, flushed coolant hoses - no issues found, refit all parts, refill cooling system, guess what - still overheats.

  I have a 1997 r reg volvo v70 xc the coolant system pressurises after a few miles of driving, and it over heated, i took it to the garage where they said the head gasket had gone, there is no oil in the water nor any water in the oil, they said they didnt know why it was pressurising but the head gasket was gone.

  I am not particularly mechanically minded so was just interested in the worse case - take it into a garage cost. The reason I ask is that it looks like it might be time consuming to fix. The coolant leaks when the engine is running or not but I suspect that if I realeased the pressure from the rad it wouldn't continue? Any thoughts on this would be gratefully appreciated, along with any rough costs.

  First i put it down to the spring clip not doing its job properly any more so i put a super torq clip on which we use on our trains at work. When i checked this afternoon i can see a very little drop of coolant and when i felt the pipe well it felt like it was breaking up. Are the ford hoses cheap carp or are they off pritty good quality? Is there a known problem with this pipe braking after five years?

  this morning the temperature just touched the red zone and then slowly dropped back to normal and again touched and then dropped back to normal. Went to the nearest Halfords, checked for the coolant level and found it to be empty!! (though the car was serviced at Kwik Fit just a month back). Approx 2.5 litres of Coolant easily got poured in the coolant reservoir. (How come the coolant became empty in a month - hope its not a failed engine head gasket or something.

  I would actually prefer to use a different word for them. Ongoing issues with the coolant levels in my 2 year old car.  After a service last month the coolant light came on.  Checked and  it was below minimum level.  Garage took it in and said it needed a new radiator but wouldn't know until they got it out whether it would be warranty or not.

  We've just been informed by our dealer ( car was in for a warranty clutch assembly replacement ) that our Focus 1.6 Ecoboost is being recalled cue to a problem with cooling/coolant levels that could cause the head to crack.   Before she got the car it had a new radiator, and cooling pipes, water pump and thermostat.    However the coolant tank was always a bit murky due to a headgasket failure some time back in the 1990s at around 30,000 miles. The car has now done 62,000 miles.    the only other thing i have noticed is, that apart from some oil floating in the coolant, the expansion tank is now much cleaner looking, you can actually see the coolant in the tank now.
