  • Failed VW TDI PD engine 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I am interested if anybody else has had a similar problem to me and what VW's attitude was. My 3 year 4 month old Golf TDI PD(115hp) engine died at 35,000 miles. The cause apparently was fuel leaking from the injector over night. On starting the engine, the con rod under the cylinder which full of fuel bent - as diesel isn't too compressible. After 5 weeks, a new engine and nearly £1,600 I got my car back.
  • 4X4 that runs on both Petrol and Diesel 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
We both looked at each other in puzzlement; I remember debating with him the possibilities of running an engine "dual-fuel". The discussion went on and on until we were thoroughly perplexed at how any manufacturer could achieve this without actually using 2 separate engines or changing the properties of the fuel itself.
  • Follow on to car jacking thread 27 Nov 2001 (Forum)
One woman asked the interviewee, (who I assume to be a Govt spokesman judging by the mealy mouthed nature of his answers) why if the environmental argument was valid for road transport did it not apply to airlines re duty free fuel, and why dual standards were being applied. The answer was that two different situations apply. UK fuel duty is there because its a travel contained within the UK situation, whereas airlines are operating an import/export business and it needs the whole world to agree on duties.
  • VW Passat/ Skoda Superb - VW 1.6 and 2.0 TDI Reliability? 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Should i consider them at all? Or i should wait for lower price for a new Honda, and just to dont worry about higher fuel consumption? :)
  • Internal combustion, 60 years on 19 May 2007 (Forum)
Really out of the box that is :) What would be possible if a choice were made to go in a certain direction, to stay with internal combustion over the next 60 years. I`m inviting you to suspend the logic of current ( fuel cell etc) future car development and consider just what `would be possible technically` with todays internal combustion engines If the millions of pounds spent on fuel cell cars had been ploughed into improving the thermal efficiency of internal combustion engines.

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/pioneering-electric-plane-shelved-as-batteries-only-last-a-few-hundred-flights/ar-AA1cAAkc Electric planes won't work beyond 500 miles because battery is too heavy and unlike petrol, the weight of aircraft does not get reduced as it burns fuel
  • Ethanol and E10 petrol 18 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I dont know how much it cost to produce Ethanol, but if it is cheaper than petroleum then surely the price of fuel should come down! Also as Ethanol is made from corn, farmers in some parts of the world will be cutting down rain forests so that they can plant more corrn to satisfy the demand from the oil companies. How to save the planet!

  • New E10 Petrol. Reality Or Nonsense? 15 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Surely the Government need to get real. Encouraging people to switch to petrol cars and then  introduce fuel that can potentially ruin engines. I doubt it will happen. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/cars/article-6109487/Almost-one-million-UK-cars-arent-compatible-new-E10-petrol-set-introduced.html

  • Hummer 12 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Saw one today at Sheffield train station. Surely THE most inappropriate car in Britain? Anyone know its fuel consumption, GPM? Looks rather mean though, don't think I'd like it to be behind me on motorways as it's massive and also its headlights appeared to be far too high. Althougher amazed by the size of it, not a chance of parking in one bay...

  • Any - Trains 31 Mar 2016 (Forum)
For three adult one 14 yearold and two under 5's it came to nearly  £400. It wouldn't even cost 1/4 of that in fuel. How can they justify the price of train travel and expect you to not use the car if the cost is so prohibitively expensive.
