Need a new to me car 1 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Having had diesels all my life, and towing caravans and driving horseboxes since in my mid 20's, now find the prospect of getting a 'new to me' car - especially a petrol one. We don't like an uncomfortable ride, but cannot afford luxury and MPG is important to us. However, as we take our grandson around with us a lot we do not want a car with no back end. -
Suzuki Vitara - High pitched sound when driving 24 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Hi, Looking for some help diagnosing my issue. I recently bought a 2018 Suzuki Vitara S All Grip Automatic and a few days later it developed a noise when driving. The closest thing I can compare the noise to is a high pitched whistle/buzzing on a phone line. The sound becomes more prominent at faster speeds > 50 mph and also once the car is warmed up (driving for 20+ mins). -
The Internet - Automated Automotive Idiocy 23 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Lately, though, I sense a change, though I'm probably rather late in sensing it. Quite a lot of this BS is now probably not being directly generated by i****s. Its being generated by AI systems. Heres a striking example https://bryansgarage.com/types-of-cylinder-wall-damage/ "Arcing Damage Arcing damage is one of the most common cylinder wall damages that can cause a quick heat rise to destroy the cylinder and cause cylinder liner damage. -
Volvo S60 / V60 / XC60 - Volvo D4 VEA engine - EGR problem 6 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Several owners of new-ish Volvo S/V60 and XC60 cars with the VEA D4 engine have had the ‘check engine’ light pop up within a few months from new (reported on the Volvo Owner’s Club forums). It happened to my own V60 D4 (registered July 2014, 5,900 miles from new) this morning on the way to work. -
Iveco/Renault/Ford - Torn between buying a used or new van. 9 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I really don;t want to drop £30K at the minute, but every time I look at used vans and then call the dealer they always put me off, they seem to have a knack of talking a non stop stream of b******s. Every time I look at a van I think how did the dealer acquire it? Why did the original owner sell it? I've seen a 2018 plate Renault Master with less than 40K at £18K with no vat, he's got two of them, one still with 1 year main dealership warranty, but I still think there must be some catch, then I look at sellers feedback and it always has some bad or some obviously fake! -

Volkswagen Polo IV - Timing Chain 1 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Hi, I am interested to see if anyone has had the same of similar Experience as me on the latest (2009/10 onwards) VW POLO 1.2 S A/C, 3 Cylinder, Petrol 60ps. In short the timing chain had stretched which has put the timing out I have a 2010 Polo with 85,000miles on the clock. I had the traction control light appear along with the engine management light and a massive reduction in power with a deeper muffled sound to the engine. -
65 Plate VW Golf Sportsvan 1 litre 3 cylinder TSI - Aftermarket Dual mass clutch and flywheel unit 16 Aug 2020 (Forum)
garage has just replaced my clutch on my S/H Golf after 48,000 miles, (3000 approx mine) however they have commented on invoice that Dual Mass flywheel has slight play and when quizzed about this comment said "had it been a diesel they would have had to have changed the flywheel as well, but it should be fine" the garage advised me that as there are no aftermarket parts available yet for this engine so they had to purchase the clutch unit, lever and bearing from VW spares at a cost in excess of £300 + VAT!. -
Land Rover Range Rover Sport - is the least reliable car to buy for the 2nd year 14 Nov 2019 (Forum)
The smaller Land Rover Discovery Sport - which costs from £31,575 - has also been causing problems for those who've bought them. More than half of the owners who completed Which?'s survey said their car had suffered at least one fault in the last 12 months. These problems weren't minor niggles either. Some 7 per cent had issues with the engine management system, which can be a serious - and pricey - fault to fix. -
Used car never ending faults 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Hi, back in April I bought a 67 plate Jaguar XF Sportbrake S. Unfortunately I’ve had various problems with the car. The panoramic roof leaked so that was replaced under warranty. It now creaks unlike before. I’ve sent it back but garage said it’s ok. I expect the roof to be silent. -
Toyota Landcruiser 120 series - Toyota component dies & charging twin batteries. 29 Apr 2019 (Forum)
All fixed now i've got ignition light when it supposed to and all charging fine, i've run Toyota 4x4's for years and that's the first major failure i can recall apart form the odd bulb. Twin batteries on these vehicles, wired in parallel so still 12v starting, and yes i did charge them both fully so they have an equal starting charge...common sense tells me it would not do either battery any good if you only charged one, but if i had only charged one battery would it lead to one or other of the two failing before it's natural time or would they equalise without any issues? -
Volkswagen Passat B6/B7 - VW Passat B6/B7 5 Apr 2019 (Forum)

What would you guys advice? Stick with a B6 lower mileage? Or are these B7's actually quite good at the mileages they are at? -
Audi Q5 17 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I then test drove the q5 and its comfy and quite. My dealer said there are great deals on the Q5 too. So i picked an S line model again and in total it came to £42k and they then gave me a good deal and took off £3k so my total price was £39k i just had to pay £1k towards it as they used the £38k i had already paid for my Q3. -
Most - Let the sun shine on in! 20 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I know a few naysayers will make comments about leakage, or structural integrity, or airbags not working, or reduced headroom … I’ve researched all these and none are a problem. Anyway, the factory sunroofs on the Maestro I drove in the 1980’s and the Primera from 2004 both leaked, and had to be repaired under warranty. Also, as I plan to keep the car for a good few years, possibly until scrappage like the previous two Primera cars I drove (at 170k+ and 180k+ miles respectively) so resale value is a distant thought. -
Volkswagen Golf GTE - Help! Car Horn won't shut up 13 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I charge the car every other day mainly using the standard UK 3 pin home charger plug but have also used the rapid chargers at work. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the issue other than it happens in th emorning, but that;s when I typically first use the car each day to go to work. When it happens the only way to stop it is to remove F15 fuse to disable the car horn. Anyone else had a similar problem? If so do you have any idea what the cause is? -
multi - car insurance 5 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Any ideas out there - my renewal comes up in 4 days - got to insure 2 Jap 4 x 4 's , have 9 years NCD , who are the companies doing ' multi - car ' policies ? My existing insurers ( E Certain ) were very insouciant on the phone - didn't want to know , told me I need a 2nd policy , and the 2nd car cannot benefit from my NCD. -
Trying the Jaguar E-Pace 17 Mar 2018 (Forum)
The diesel performs quite well, but the acceleration isn't linear and there's a lag followed by a surge. - After two years of suffering the V60's parking brake, which some tortured Swedish genius elected to place by the driver's right knee, there it is again in the same benighted place in the E-Pace, and as with the Volvo, counter-intuitive in that you push for on, pull for off. -
X type 2004 173k - Car Valet 31 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Living in Pembs, you get used (once you venture outside the towns and onto country roads) to your car being coated with 'Pembrokeshire Underseal' aka cow s*** most of the time. On Sunday, against my better judgement, I called into a £5 handwash place and had most of it blasted off. 'Blasted' is a good word, they used commercial strength pressure wash which wouldn't have been out of place in a shipyard and who knows what chemicals. -
Mazda 3 - Heavy steering 4 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I recently found that my Mazda3's steering has got a lot heavier, though still usable. I checked the fluid level and its within range (last serviced in Jan 16 at my local main dealer), and the dealership 'checked' it when I had the clutch replaced a few weeks ago and couldn't find any issues, other than to say 'its getting old' (possibly because they want me to buy a new car). -
Volkswagen Passat 1.6 TDI Bluemotion - Car Giant AA Warranty on Passat 25 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I bought a 2012 62 Volkswagen Passat 1.6 TDI S Bluemotion from Car Giant back in September 2015. Seemed a very good deal at the time and i even went a 1 year warranty with the AA through Car Giant for what they assured me was able to cover everything (a few lies put in there).
