Is it the responsibility of our local dealer to recover our car if it breaks down? 12 Sep 2013 (Ask HJ)

Vat - Vat Qualifying vehicles, an expensive option? 10 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Buy a s/h 6 month old car that is non qualifying and sell 2yrs later. Choices 1 &2 look best, probably 2, as someone else would of suffered some of the depreciation. However when I sell the car it will be 6 months older, will this partially counteract the £3k ish saving do you think? -
Honda Jazz - No fault insurance claim 17 Mar 2025 (Forum)
It looks as if the damage is a small dent to the rear bumper, but the bumper will need to be replaced. She’s been given a hire car, but her car has yet to be repaired. She’s been told that, as it’s over eight years old, it may have to be written off as that is the company policy. Will she have to accept that? She’s not had it long and it was hard to find as it’s a small, low mileage automatic. -

Mazda 3 MPS - Car Rustproofing?worth it for £600? 21 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Just ended up buying a 10 year old Mazda 3MPS car which is brilliant with 70,000 miles on the clock however the undersurface of the car has some significant rust patches. Phoned a rustproofing outfit who advises that it would cost about £600 for the work! -

Ford Focus - Buying repossessed car with superficial damage 10 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I've seen a 2013 Ford Focus at a dealers, which is a finance repossession, and is at least a thousand pounds cheaper than equivalents around. The car drives fine, but there are quite a few small scratches on the paintwork and some loose panels inside the car (drivers side inside door, for example. Not sure why that would be loose?). It's only three years old and the dealer will sell it with a full MOT. -
VW UP - Idling clutch noise 23 Mar 2013 (Forum)
We bought a VW Up with9000 miles on the clock a month ago and then went on holiday for 2 weeks. On our return when we started the car we noticed a noise when the clutch was in idling mode. We have asked the garage to rectify this and they tell us it is not detrimental to the car and will not affect its performance. We generally like the car but having traded in a 12 year old Focus with no problem except age, we are disappointed to have this slight rattling noise on the new cars clutch. -

Minor dings and scratches on secondhand cars 28 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I am thinking here of 1 to 3 year old cars from main dealers. I assume, if you go down the repair route, that you get it in writing before completion? Thanks for any advice, T. p.s. Same question re tyres or marks on interior plastics or fabrics? -
Buying imports from Channel Islands 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I'm very tempted to buy a car from a dealer who imports 'nearly new' cars (just a few months old) from the Channel Islands. They are apparently used mainly as hire cars and have just a few thou miles on the clock, they come with the balance of the manufacturers warranty (so usually about 2 to 2.5 years) and the dealer registers and supplies UK plates. -
Renault Modus (2004 - ) - 04 1.5dci Clutch Slip? 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Could it be a poorly adjusted clutch (e.g. it's not been released fully when the foot is off the pedal)? . Does this car have a DMF and is this an early sign of it's impending failure? Car is only 3.5 years old and with just under 30k on the clock. -

SORN cannot be backdated? 15 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I have just been reading the DVLA document New Car Tax Rules. It says that SORN lasts 12 months, but apparently it cannot be transferred to a new owner, unlike car tax. So if I buy a SORNed car I must immediately SORN it myself. There is the problem. -
Running & Servicing Euro LH Car in GB 14 May 2004 (Forum)
Apart from the various import/tax etc things, what are the issues with getting a LH drive VW serviced here - are any of the bits specifically for left-hand drive cars, and therefore going to make a cheap to buy car expensive to run ?! -
One for the insurance wizzos 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I was rear-ended in a queue of traffic in my company car yesterday by a young lad in an old Jag. Not my fault, reported it to our accident management folks so it will all get sorted out OK. But, I have two other insurance policies in my name, one for my son's car with me as the policyholder & him as the main driver and the other a classic car policy on the Commer.
