  Not that the 1.7TD has much scope for abuse, but that's a different thread altogether :) The last time I came to change the fuel filter (about 109,000 miles), when I put the new one on, the car became progressively more difficult to start, with lots of smoke when it did start. I put this down to air ingress into the fuel system due to me disturbing something, and went down to Vauxhall parts to ask them about it.

    Title says it all, but the pertinent facts are that it is on the original engine, transmission and various other parts (including brake calipers)!. Only been on a tow truck once due to a fuel pump failure at 741k miles. Interior also looking remarkably good for such a huge mileage.

  Presumably you will very quickly run out of battery for drive and heat.  At least with conventional fuel that would not be the case unless you were stupid enough not to set out with a reasonable tank.

     Long journeys /short journeys Mechanic tested with computer.  Only problem showing (once) was 'empty of fuel' light,  Tank was 3/4 full. Mechanic seems at a loss as the fault is intermittant.

  i drove to the park today and the car was fine but when we got back in to drive home the instrumental panel wasn't working - so no movement on speedo, revs, fuel and temp gauges.  everything else was working - is this a fuse probem or sometheng else?  all help gratefully received!
