  • Vauxhall Astra - Is it fair? 11 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Hi there,  This company - Friendly Car Insurance - offered me a very interesting insurance for my 2008 Astra. I am quite young driver so saving money is important for me. I am insured in Aviva but they are offering me the 200 GBP reduction. I must choose insurance very fast - so question for you - have you ever heard about this company? Are they verified?
  • City car for Cork 27 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend (a) a small, low emission car for city motoring around Cork.  My son lives there and pays ridiculously high tax on the VW Golf he imported (1200 euros a year!) as it has high emissions.  He would like something with the lowest possible emissions (b) a dealer in or near Cork he could buy something from that fits the above spec.

  • Headlamp converters 15 Apr 2010 (Forum)
A friend of mine drives regularly in Europe and he doesn't realize the importance of putting those stickers on the headlights to make them dip the other way. Is there some cost effective way of making your own? How do they work exactly? I am surprised that cars aren't fitted with a device that does this.
  • Effect of speed humps on C02 Emissions 15 Jul 2009 (Forum)
storyId=20259 First para reads: The CO2 impact of Speed Humps in the UK is greater than that of the whole of Fiji, says Clear, a self-styled 'Carbon Offsetting Company' whose employees found time to do the maths between other, um, very important offsetting carbon-type things. SLT to reflect the subject.
  • Headlights 4 May 2009 (Forum)
It is important to have two working headlights, and some countries even require you to carry a spare bulb. It is impossible to change a headlight bulb on many (most?) modern cars without specialist equipment and a great deal of effort.

  • BMW 5-Series E60 (2003 - 2009) - 520d se auto 08 13 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The question is what experience has anyone out there got of the 520d 177 auto as a 30k+ mpa motorway muncher? Ride and economy important, top speed and acceleration not so.
  • Jaguar XJ8 and XJR8 (1997 - 2003) - Is this worth a punt?? 21 Dec 2008 (Forum)

  • 1984 and all that [Locked] 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Travelling where possible up the outside land at well over 70 where they could. Did not look like police and no marked car with them. Probably someone important and the emergency was that they had an appointment. Now if speed kills . . . . . . . . . . . George Orwell was right
  • Honda Prelude (96-00) or Toyota Celica (94-00)? 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I've narrowed my choices down to either the Honda Prelude 2.0 (96-00 model) with the manual gearbox or the Toyota Celica GT (94-00 model, preferably not an import). Has anybody had any experience good or bad that they could share? Thanks, Chris.
  • TomTom One version2 air vent mount. Where to buy? 6 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Hello, I'm tired of the windscreen sucker for my TomTom One version2 falling of the windscreen and so I'm looking for a decent air vent mount. There is a huge amount of choice out there (from TomTom's own models to the cheap Chinese imports on eBay). Can someone suggest a decent mount that they have experience with? Thanks in advance, Chris.
  • Aftermarket fog lights on Japanese cars 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Anyone noticed how even the most modern Jap cars, especially grey imports, have very cheap looking retro fit fog lights hanging under the back bumper? Even properly fitted into the bumpers or rear panels, you can tell they're not factory fitted. Are they not a legal requirement in the land of the rising sun, or do they simply not have fog in Japan?
  • Correct use of head restraints 21 Aug 2007 (Forum)
How many Backroomers drive with their head in contact with the restraint - i.e. actually using it as a 'headrest'? I'm aware of the importance of correct restraint height, but don't find it comfortable to use them for support when driving. I have noticed that some drivers do adopt a 'rally driver' stance with arms fully outstretched and head thrust back into the restraint (needs baseball cap wearing to one side).
  • Environmental Hypocrit 20 Jun 2007 (Forum)
A fistful of excuses as to why he needs one of course. He thinks coaches are ok for the poor and the unemployed, but not for a busy and important person like himself. Sorry about the link to The Times, but it is worth it for the breathtaking hypocrisy of one of the foremost ( yeah we get the point - PU ) SNIP - What link? DD --
  • re Toyota Soluna Vios 80,000km Test 14 Jun 2007 (Forum)
yes my partner is malaysian they have these cars out there too seems a good deal versus a uk corolla/arius certainly a proper auto instead on MMT would be good i liked them of course as an import they would be useless as they come standard with air con but no heater... lots of protons out there as well, actually very impressed with the standard of home built cars they have
  • Paint Sealant Services (eg Lacroe) 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I've just bought a new car for the first time and have been offered it by the dealership, my first question being "What's wrong with the paint that's been put on ?" (still not had a reasonable answer). They're asking £235 for it, my gut feel is if it were so important Ford would have made it standard or a condition of the warranty.
  • Replacement for a Mondeo? 25 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I cannot afford new, but I would like something less than 2 years old and the cheaper the better. Any suggestions for a similar sized vehicle? Reliability is of greatest importance, with safety also being relevant. I won't consider another Mondeo due to quality problems with the current one and poor service from the dealers.

  • Insurance group-Prelude? 19 May 2006 (Forum)
Anyone know what insurance group a 1996 HONDA PRELUDE 2.3 LITRE AUTO would fit in? This is not the VTEC model. The car was originally a Japanese import vehicle and has many features that differ from the UK versions. They include. Four speed AUTO box with tiptronic shift, Air conditioning and climate control, wooden dashboard trim, racing style seats etc.
