  A mate of mine has a 1995 Rover 414 (later shape)that is showing some of the symptoms of a blown head gasket. I say 'some' as the coolant expansion bottle is full of 'mayonnaise' yet it is not overheating (even in traffic) and there is no signs of oil/coolant mixing on the dipstick or under the rocker cover. There is no signs of coolant being pressurised by combustion gases either.

  Hi My daughters K reg Polo 1.1 has started to use/ loose coolant about 1/4 pint a week.cannot find any leaks around hoses, water pump radiator ect. oil level not increased and looks ok. took off rocker cover very clean inside apart from a very small amount of mayonaze around oil filler cap, thought this could be condensation due to short runs (8 miles per day)and cold weather just recently.Engine runs fine starts ok, runs at same temporature as always has.Noticed a lot of clean water from exhaust, but again could be condensation.

  I have a 95 hyundai accent with the 1.5 12v engine (104000 mi). Recently i have noticed that it spits coolant regularly from the overflow on the expansion tank. The engine is not overheating according to the gauge. I changed the rediator cap, which didnt help. It doesnt do it constantly, but if i drive the car for a while then open the bonnet there is coolant splashed around from the overflow pipe.

  I posted last week saying how my E320 CDI W211 at only 5 months old had sprung a diesel leak and an oil leak and that the oil was dripping onto a coolant pipe and was damaging it. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=4&t=12923 They have lent me an old shape E-Class and rung today to say the new pipe was on back order and to expect a wait of a further 10 days.

  Breather hose isn't completely blocked with mayo or other obstruction. Any suggestions? Haven't been looking at coolant too closely, but before I took the filler car off I thought the coolant might had gone down a bit to what it was. No oil in coolant, or mayonnaise on dipstick. Also read on this site that it might just be the winter months doing this rather than a head gasket?

  Water loss, changed thermostat, new radiator, new water pump. Temp gage reading normal, then goes up to half way, then comes down to normal. When I look at coolant level,,,no coolant. If cyl head has gone the gauge should go sky-high. Is this the case? Or can you point me in the right direction to any other poss problem.

  I have a 96 P reg nissan almera. It has recently started to overheat and use up coolant. I have just noticed small amounts of oil in the coolant. Am i right in assuming that it is the head gasket going? If so would using radweld or something similar sort out the problem?   this morning the temperature just touched the red zone and then slowly dropped back to normal and again touched and then dropped back to normal. Went to the nearest Halfords, checked for the coolant level and found it to be empty!! (though the car was serviced at Kwik Fit just a month back). Approx 2.5 litres of Coolant easily got poured in the coolant reservoir. (How come the coolant became empty in a month - hope its not a failed engine head gasket or something.

  I run it 2 to 3 times a month and recently it has developed a misfire on cylinder 2. On inspection the plug recess was almost full of water that I take to be coolant as the car is garaged. There is no significant coolant or oil loss, the coolant is clean and there's no sludge in the oil filler or on the dipstick. Could this be anything else but a head gasket failure and how do I check it out?

  The water is 'boiling' in one place near the coolant bottle. It is not circulating throughout the system. The 'Stop check coolant level' light is flashing on the computer display. It has been running fine until i was getting on a motorway 2 days ago i noticed the temp guage was nearly on red and i could hear steaming noises coming from the coolant bottle cap so i pulled into services and allowed it to cool down and then filled it up with water.
