  • Skoda Octavia vrs Estate or Leon Fr Estate? - Unsure which to choose 7 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Im torn between two vehicles to be honest, a 17/18 plate leon Estate, either 1.8 petrol fr or 2.0 diesel fr, the 190bhp version, or a octavia Vrs similar age maybe a few years younger. Im really torn for a few reasons, both DSG for me, however the VRS is four wheel drive which I do prefer over the leon front wheel drive, in terms of petrol or diesel I'm not fussed. I cover around 15-20k miles a year, I'd imagine the leon fr 1.8 will sound better than the diesel VRS.
  • Buying used car 20 Aug 2019 (Forum)
About petrol or diesel engine I have no idea, consider that usually my trips aren’t very long (commute is max 15/20 mins away plus local driving to shops in town) and I drive more during weekends (max 2 hours distance). One last thing is fuel consumption, I don’t mind paying a little something extra for fuel but it should be at least reasonable mpg if possible.
  • 2001 Fiesta mk4 endura-E 1.3 - 2001 Fiesta operating temp? 9 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I live in a hot climate ,ambient temp here is around 35-37C the car doesn't overheats and the temp gauge is always just slightly above the middle when the engine reach its operating temp, when I enter the hidden menu I can view the coolant temp: so engine warms up until coolant temp reaches 89c and then I can see a drop in temp as the thermostat opens while driving at highway speeds or to say above  30-40 mph coolant temp is around 92-96c at very traffic or very slow driving coolant temp  can go up to 110c, radiator fan kicks in at 105c though so , i would appreciate if someone who have/had this car can tell me if this is normal and what their coolant temps are so i can compare to mine thanks in advance Harel

  • VW Sharan 2011 - Turbooverboost/DPF problems 15 Apr 2019 (Forum)
The garage now thinks the DPF needs replacing.  They removed the "I think" the lambda sensor, which on a test drive allowed the car to generate full power. They have tried a force regen but the car won't have it. At no point in owning the car (only 1 year) have we seen the DPF light, and whilst we do do short journeys I drive it high revs for periods to what I thought was encourage an active regen.
  • vw golf mk5 1.9 tdi - Fuel pump replacement issue 12 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Pulling my hair out with fuel pump issue, Fuel pump went couple of weeks ago and mechanic replaced it with new one. Then i started to notice a loud whining noise periodically mostly when driving around the town and stopping an starting  and when idling and in low gears, also the fuel display that tells me how many miles is left in the tank was fluctuating quite a bit, which it didn't do before and i noticed slight loss of power sometimes or it was less responsive, and after some hard driving (when im delivering chinese at night) its worse and the smell of fuel comes into the cabin.
  • Another what to buy 5 Dec 2018 (Forum)
., I used the data from the real MPG on HJ for this I would be considering the 90 - 120ps petrol engine models as I do some motorway driving I would be keeping the car for around 3 years, and looking for a vehicle with around 15 - 20k on the clock. I do find I am sitting quite low in the corsa, I have arthritis and I tend to 'roll' out of the car, I did have a look at the Fabia and found the driving position to be higher than the Corsa, Do any members of this forum have any good or bad experiences of either the C3 or the Fabia, or should I be looking at a small SUV, for example the Ingis or S-Cross from Suzuki?
  • Vauxhall Vectra - 2 engines failing 25 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Both cars, however, were bought secondhand. Have I just been unlucky?  Is it possible that I have been driving them badly to cause both failures?  I have to say that the Vectra is physically an ideal car for someone of my long and lanky build and I'd buy another one is I could be reasonably certain that a third failure would be highly unlikely.

  • Hyundai ix35 2010 - Hyundai ix35 2010 sat nav system issues 27 Jul 2017 (Forum)
The reverse cameras stopped working and then every 10 minutes a warning pops up on screen stating "system will,  shut down if engine is not turned on this happens even when driving and then the sat nav system shuts down, nothing else is affected and we can still drive etc so seems a problem with the connections. We have taken to hyundai  and they checked the system stating nothing wrong with the wiring so suggested a new head unit at the cost of £4000!
  • MERCEDES-BENZ 300sl roadster - Long time since started 13 Oct 2016 (Forum)
It has been in a garage coverd up since before I was born I think the year was 1982 from what my mum told me. My mum can't drive but I think her uncle left it to her as she used to enjoy being driven in it as a child so I've Been asked to move it to  secure storage for her. I'm inclined to get the car taxd and tested and drive it but have reservations on its ability to start and how being sat up for 34 years might have affectedit.
  • 02 plate Ford Focus 1.8TDCI - Ford Focus TDCI Starting problem 14 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I have a problem with my focus. While driving home on the motorway on Friday the car broke down, the glow plug coil light started flashing and the engine died. After about 20 mins the engine restarted and I managed to get off at the next junction before the same thing happened again.
  • Selling old SORNed car: should I tax & insure? 22 May 2016 (Forum)
I've got an old car on my drive that's been declared SORN.  It's about 15 years old, but runs fine and has MOT until September.  I think it's worth around £500 (it's a 2000 reg 3 litre Jaguar S-Type auto if that makes any difference).
  • 20k a year - suitable car? 17 May 2016 (Forum)
Hi all I am sure this sort of thing gets asked all the time but it's nice to get up to date advice My commute is about 60 miles a day on motorway and A roads, occasionally my wife will use it to go to one of her company's depots so on those days it will be a 130 mile round trip, again mostly A roads We have a very limited budget and I certainly couldn't afford to go above 4k at the moment having just replaced our other car (wife uses for short journey to her main workplace) I was thinking perhaps Diesel for this sort of annual mileage (20k) but hear no end of negative views on modern diesels Do you think I should go diesel over petrol, and in which case are there any models you would recommend? My main priorities are low costs and reliability, being fun to drive is an after thought. Having lived with a rather dull (but fairly reliable) picanto for 4 years anything would be more fun to drive, and certainly quicker :D Advice appreciated :)
  • Ford Focus 1.6 2002 Ghia - High oil consumption? 11 Oct 2015 (Forum)
He has done other work for me)   Since then I have had to top it up twice. The dip stick read almost low on both occasions. I have been driving to work which is a commute of about 44 miles per day and five times a week. Plus other driving. Only just started this job so in a month I have estimated I have done about 800-1000 miles.   When I checked the dipstick today it was about 1/4 above empty.
  • Efficient choice? 8 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Hi, Looking for advice on an efficient car for a 47 mile each way commute mostly motorways but into manchester city centre so the last bit is more city driving. I've got about 15K to spend but I'm happy to borrow some cash if it makes sense to get something more efficient. I've considered various hybrids but most seem to only do around 30 miles on the batteries and are then not particularly efficient.
  • MINI cooper 2005 - Grinding sound from 2005 MINI cooper 24 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I drive a 2005 MINI cooper (Getrag gearbox).  For 1 year, my car has been making a grinding/whirring sound under load whilst in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear.  The sound sounds like a bearing, and begins at 20mph and it gets louder the more I accelerate, but then disappears at exactly 50mph.
  • Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiesta 1.3 Acceleration Problems 8 Sep 2015 (Forum)
When accelerating it will hit about 50mph and then get stuck - I can put my foot all the way down on the accelerator and it will not go any faster. It gets stuck for about a minute, then judders and suddenly shoots forward and is fine. I drive around 40 miles on the motorway each day, and it will do this when I accelerate to join, and then usually be fine. It does occassionally do it again after I've been driving for around 30 minutes.   Nobody can figure out whats wrong with it - the check engine light came on and the code said it was the lambda sensor.
  • Mazda CX-5 - Help with company car choice! Mazda Vs Nissan! 2 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I do a lot of motorway driving (approx 800 miles per week min.)  I think the Mazda comes up trumps here due to the extra engine power. I need to make my choice by Tuesday evening! Any advice/opinions will be gratefully recieved!
