  • Oil light & buzzer 8 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I have a 1993 VW Golf 1.8 CL Auto and whilst driving on the motorway the engine oil light and warning buzzer came on.The car has had a recent oil service and the oil level is normal. The oil light goes off when starting. Any suggestions!
  • Paint Scapes 19 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Since my wife started driving we seem to have picked up several "mysterious" scapes around the rear wheel arch area of our Megane Scenic (metallic paint). I suspect most of these can be T Cut away - but would appreciate if anyone can recommend a decent product to minimise the damage.
  • Citroen DS5 - My Road Test Report 13 Mar 2015 (Forum)
The gearbox was not the most precise, suffering from a rather long throw, but the clutch was fairly light and allowed smooth progress through the gears. The gearing is high, even for a diesel, although this promotes a more relaxed driving style, and in fact I found the car deceptively quick when pressing on. My average fuel consumption for the day was 42 MPG, some way short of the 55 MPG combined figure, but there was quite a lot of stop/start city driving, and the engine had only done 2000 miles, so I would expect a figure in the high 40’s realistically.
  • Not an objective test........ 22 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Took the dogs playing in the snow at the weekend. This requires a pretty agressive drive on some wild landscape. Not the sort of driving that you would ever need to do in the UK, probably nowhere to do it anyway. I live on the edge of the Andes mountains outside Santiago in Chile. My house is above the snow-line for some of the winter, but mostly below.
  • Looking for SUV suggestions 4 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I had a 07 suzuki vitara which got written off for unrelated reasons, and handled that hill with ease (even towed the volvo up it a few times on ice). I'm mostly driving on tarmac, but want something that can handle occasional off road. I work from home so yearly mileage is quite low, probably sub 10,000km. Weekly driving is all off motorway. Country roads (60-90km/h) to town / small city driving, with the odd dirt track to visit nature spots.
  • Audi Q5 - Audi Q5 owner Review 23 May 2019 (Forum)
I havent used the infotainment system that much as im not that techy so cant really comment on that. Driving is overall fantastic , on motorways its a breeze and relaxed and very comfortable to drive but then on country lanes i can have some fun going round corners. I never get bored driving the Q5.  Handling is good and its comfty even over rough roads or speed bumps.
  • VAG 1.0 TSi 19 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Having looked at some old brochures I found when moving house last year the Fabia Hatch is actually a tad bigger than a Mk2 Golf and just a tad smaller than a Mk3 Golf and we managed with those from 1986 to 2002. Managed to get a drive in a 110 PS hatch on Friday and it was difficult to tell if it was any better since Friday PM in the city with speed cameras is not the best environment for a test drive. One thing that was definitely better was the 6 speed box in the 110 version.
  • CVT gearboxes, are they really that bad? 7 Feb 2017 (Forum)
But both of these have cvt gearboxes, and very little i have ever read in motoring press about cvt gearboxes has ever been anything other than negative!. I am hoping to test drive versions of both cars, but in the mean time, i thought i would reach out to anyone on this forum who has experience of this type of gearbox, preferably in either the current jazz or yaris. Are they really as awful as the motoring press would have me believe, or is it, as i suspect, simply a case of getting used to it, and perhaps changing my driving to suit?.
  • Vauxhall Corsa D/MK4 (1.2 petrol SXi) - Limp/EML/Oil 7 May 2013 (Forum)
Pulled into work and I turned off/on and everything was fine - checked during lunch break, still fine. Driving home: Happened within 5 minutes of driving and went into Limp mode again, this time the EML was on static - no flashing or service light. Managed to get home, turned off/on and it's still on static, no service light.
  • Citroen AX 1.0L '96 - No Charge Problem 6 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hope someone can help. I lost all of my accessories last week driving home, wipers, lights, heater etc. Fortunately I was only a few yards from my house when it happened. Went to start my car the next day and all was fineturned it around in my drive to unload some things then went to start again, turning over very slowly, battery nigh on dead.
  • 2005 Ford Focus Ghia 2.0 - Ford Focus loss of power & engine warning light 29 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hoping someone might be able to help me locate an issue I'm having. The car is a 2005 Focus Ghia 2.0 (obviously petrol). A couple of days ago I was driving to work and the car started to feel very sluggish on acceleration - not jolting in any way as if to indicate fuel starvation, and the closest way I can describe it would be to say it was like driving with the handbrake on.
  • Ford Fusion - Garage liable for mechanical damage? 25 May 2010 (Forum)
The diagnosis was that the faulty alternator had seized abruptly stopping the drive belt, which caused the crankshaft bolt to come loose allowing the engine to turn without control. End result is that the valves are bent and the head needs to come off to identify the full extent of the damage.
  • Mazda Mazda 5 7-str (2005 - 2010) - Mini-test of facelift Mazda 5 4 Jan 2009 (Forum)
(In the UK, the old model had no automatic and I think held up sales). The car we had over the Christmas break was superb. We did about 1,000 miles including a long drive from the north through the Negev desert to the Red Sea resort of Eilat. The drive of about 370km is a mix of fast dual carriageways, single-carriageway roads similar to the A roads of 30/40 years ago and winding moutain passes.
  • Daihatsu Charade (2003 - 2006) - 2000 mile report 29 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Engine is gruff but it is a nice sound, far better than any 4 cyl unit( and very refined for a 3 cyl ), accompanied with some gearbix whine, but in a way, its akin to driving a 3cyl Austin Mini, however with a very slick gearbox. Its generally a pleasent car to drive, happy on the motorway at 75 or buzzing around town. Needless to say, due to size and great visability, its a doddle to park.
  • Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 1999 2.2 diesel dealer/brakes problem 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
the dealership repairing the car had it for over a month and have said that the master cylinder and soemthing else brake related (cant quite remember at the mo) has gone and they want £1000 to repair, having had the car MOT'd less than 2months before the accident, he had noticed nothing wrong with the brakes what-so-ever, so he as surprised to get this news from the dealer. he has said no to the repairs for now on the car, signed a waiver that says the dealer has infomed him the brakes are dangerous and the car should not be driven, and tested the car in a secure car park, needless to say the brakes were not working as they had been prior to the car being taken away (he described it as like driving his work's transit van with 6 elepahants in the back, it just kept going and going). the person at the dealers he spoke to when he was told about the brake problem said (quote) "you wouldn't normally notice it in day-to-day driving, only in stop start town traffic" (un-quote), normal day to day driving for the car involves 4miles through rush hour traffic to get home from work in the morning (varies between 7.45am and 8.30am), 2miles for the morning school run, 2miles for the afternoon school run, aswell as the shopping run on a saturday, as the car was collected and returned on a flatbed lorry, they only time it was driven after the accident was to get it onto the lorry and on the test-drive by the dealer, he has been back to the garage that MOT'd the vehicle and has asked if there any cause for concern regarding the brake's master cylinder (ie they passed MOT but might not be in 100% working condition) but the mechanic was non-commital, in short, what are his options..?
  • Volvo Clutch repair botched? Any advice? 17 Aug 2006 (Forum)
This did not seem to make much difference to the car?s operation; it just seemed to foul access to the ashtray, etc. I continued to drive the car normally, but went back to the garage a week later and explained the problem. The garage asked me to bring the car back on the following Monday; but made no suggestion that I should not drive the car and I mentioned that I was continuing to drive it.
  • Motorway driving 25 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Well, certainly mine is and over the last 10 years I have changed from probably the most bad-tempered and stressed driver on the roads to one who relaxes the whole way through it, even when I'm late - mind you, 10 years of driving in South America will do that for you.
  • Fifteen New Middle East Driving Regs 13 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Keeping to the center of the road while rounding a curve will prevent you from over-steering and possibly leaving the roadway. 17. Keeping your cell phone up to your right ear while driving will enable you to "flip the bird" with your left finger so it is more easily visible. Thank You, The Ministry of Motor Vehicles and Transportation.
  • Honda Jazz - another test drive 14 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I will now try and get a Yaris Verso for a comparable test, anybody got any other comments? I think that from a driving point of view both my Fiesta and Golf GTI (Mk2 8v) are better but different!
