VW Polo 1.2 2016 - Cam belt replacement 28 May 2021 (Forum)
Hi, I've just had a letter from the VW dealership to say the cam belt is due to be changed on my 5 year old Polo. The car has only done 21000 miles and I realise the rubber will deteriorate over the years but I'm just after opinions of how long you would leave it bearing in mind the low mileage. Thanks. -
Volvo V70 - Holiday trip 26 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Just done 1900 miles in two weeks, Hampshire to the Yorkshire dales in our 2008 140k V70d. Car fully loaded for the trip up and back then a mixture of A roads through to one track roads. Used £220 of diesel and no oil at all. I'll try to work out mpg sometime. All in all very impressed, the old girl took it in her stride but I'm knackered! -
Jacking point protection 6 Feb 2020 (Forum)
The 30 year old lump of wood that I put between my jacking points and trolley jack has finally split. now that I have got over the loss I was wondering if anyone makes a suitable replacement ? I hate to see various tyre fitters simply stuff a trolley jack under my cars and jack away without any regard for my paint / sills / jacking points. -
Oil Extractor Pumps - are they worth it? 25 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Hey all, I need to change the oil on my car but can't really afford a service. I was thinking of using one of those extractor pumps instead of draining the oil the traditional way. Will this be a good enough substitute? Some people say yes, but others seem to think the pumps Don't get all the old oil out. -
Interesting read re:emissions 17 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I found this quite interesting and hoping some of you will too: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/how_toxic_is_your_car_exhaust It's an article comparing independant car emissions from an old mk3 petrol golf to an '09 diesel octavia with a few figures for "euro 6" diesels at the end for comparison. It's definitely food for thought and highlights the lack of transparency within the industry, although I'm sure this isn't news for anyone here! -
Polo - VW -upgrading a PCP agreement 29 Apr 2017 (Forum)
A neighbour has recently had mechanical issues with his 3 year old Polo--now thankfully resolved. However he has started to lose confidence with the car--and since it is just in the last of a four year PCP agreement is thinking of trading in and upgrading to another VW? -
Hyundai Getz - Hyundai Getz: any opinions? - mikem 2 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Are these reliable little cars? Looking for a cheap runabout, not bothered about styling or equipment levels. I've seen a 2006 Getz with low mileage (50k) for £1.3k. I seem to remember the old Hyundais had a 10yr warranty, or something like that. -
Hit and run driver escapes prison. 23 Jan 2016 (Forum)
This man was driving without wearing his glasses which he needed to drive and then drove away from the scene leaving his victim to die. Following this he then tried to make out that the damage to his car was caused by debris falling from a bridge. http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2016-01-22/90-year-old-pillar-of-community-sentenced-for-fatal-hit-and-run-on-crossing/ -
Vauxhall Astra - Go Vauxhall 4 Jan 2016 (Forum)
My Grandson 18yrs old just passed his test bought a car from Go Vauxhall and it blew up 2 weeks later, they are now saying it was a trade sale because they took in PX and then sold to a member of staff and he sold it as a a Trade sale so we have no rights. -
30,000 miles with an Octavia vRS estate 23 May 2015 (Forum)
Very interesting report. On your last point, even if I could afford a new car, I think I'd buy an ex demonstrator, maybe something up to 1 year old. The initial depreciation is something I'd be keen to avoid. 40mpg for quite a big petrol estate with such good performance is really good, hardly seems worth going for the extra cost of the diesel. -

Audi A3 - A good MOT experience only £29.95 and it passed. 29 May 2014 (Forum)
Only went to Russell Automotive Centre for the first time for just an MOT test. Very professionally run garage with helpful staff. My car passed first time and it only cost £29.95. This will now be my garage for all future repairs and servicing. It was a very easy expirence for an old man like me so it worth sharing. -

W reg Ford fiesta - Radio code 4 Sep 2013 (Forum)
My battery went flat after my 'mate' left the interior lights on overnight and now I can't operate the radio. It's a Ford 3000 Traffic and the serial number is M180308, but as the car is so old I don't even have the original owners manual and the back of the radio doesn't have the code scrawled anywhere. Can you help me please? -
Golf Mk VII Estate - Golf MkVII Estate - Handbrake? 9 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Does this mean that the new estate does NOT have an electronic parking brake? This is the one feature that puts me off buying this car. I am too old to cope with change or am I fussing about nothing? -
Any - Power Steering Fluid 8 May 2013 (Forum)
Does this need changing at regular intervals ? I just topped it up in the office runabout car, a Mondeo 2.0 Estate 2008, and I put a bit too much in, so I sucked the excess out with a syringe, and noticed that the old stuff is kind of chocolate colour, and the new stuff much clearer and lighter. -
