FIAT Punto - Battery charge 5 Feb 2012 (Forum)
According to the label, green means it's charged. However, for the past few weeks the car has been turning over a bit slowly in the mornings. The colder it's been, the slower it turns. The car has always started very easily, firing up after only a second or so and it hasn't let us down - yet! -
Toyota Yaris 2009 D4D - Think I bought a lemon ! 12 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I bought this car new Nov 200 9(59 plate). It had a new clutch within 3 months, a new chrome trim for the gear knob cos it was so sharp it cut into my hand, new boot lock cos that jammed, new rear screen cos one of the heated lines broke, 2 turbo mods, a new vac pump, EGR valve cleaned out twice ( cos I asked them to) - found to be clogged solid with carbon. All done on warranty at a local dealership Car is still running badly, chugging like an old bus sometimes when idling and blue smoke coming from the exhaust.Had it's 30K serviced 20 Dec2011 and was chuggingagain the day after. -
Citroen C3 - Central Locking Fault 27 Mar 2010 (Forum)
When we recently put in a cd player instead of the standard fit cassette player, the doors would lock themsleves when driving, and casue the warning sound (beeps when seatbelts not fastened) to sound continously. we put the old cassete player in and all was fine. Anyway now she has another CD Player installed, this time by a garage (they did it foc). She went to the shops, and locked the car with the remote fob and when she returned, nothing happened. the car would not unlock by the fob or by manualy using the lock on the door. after being stuck for hours she called out the AA, who could not get in the car and they lifted it home and put it outside her house. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.8 Please help... my car won't start 21 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My guess is that I'm going to need a diagnostics test run, however, with her not starting, I'm going to have to have her towed, I think. I'm a 24 year old female and am worried about being majorly ripped off by a garage. I'm open to any/all suggestions. Please help!! -

(Another) insurance query 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I was such a victim this week. A driver reversed her large vehicle at great speed and demolished the front near side wing of my car (I was stationary at the time). My car is 7 years old and was in immaculate condition. It had done 70,000 miles and was probably good for another 3 or 4 years of enjoyable motoring for me. It seems likely to me that her insurance company will consider my car to be a write off. -
p/xd a scrapper too soon 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
We would then go to one car as we don't really need two at the moment. Now it seems if we had waited we could have got at least a grand off the A3. Should have learnt from the stamp duty mess shouldn't I.... Anyway, with the VAT rate lower and £2k potentially up for grabs I wonder if we would be better off buying a cheap and cheerful Panda or Corsa, using the Mazda as the px with this discount and then keeping this little car as a run-around for the next 10 years... -
British built auto estates - any out there? 15 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I am looking in to the possibility buying a new estate car, and I require automatic transmission, preferably of the DSG/Tiptronic type. Many models are under consideration (leaning mostly towards a Skoda Octavia at the moment), however it has crossed my mind that I would dearly like to buy a British built car if at all possible. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 2005 1.6 snapped rear axle 17 Nov 2008 (Forum)
This is why I am trying to find out if it is a manufactures problem as the car is not that old and you don't expect the rear axle to snap He wasn't doing any great speed and the AA man said he is lucky he landed in soft mud or else the car would have flipped So quite scary really Look forward to any replies {55 changed to 2005 as 55 is the reg plate, not the 'year of manufacture' - which is what the fill in box requested} -
Insurance (Lack of) Question 5 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone help with the likely outcome of the scenario below. My son's mate is 22 years old. He has his own car which is insured fully comp. He was at a 'do' with his parents last week and agreed, once there, to drive his dad's car home so his dad could have a drink. Although son is not named on Dad's insurance, they both (son and his dad) thought that he would be covered third party by son's insurance. -
MOT tyre requirements 4 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Suffice to say I got a new tyre at a bit of a discount, and the new throttle body seems to have done wonders to the low end performance, so I'm not complaining. So kudos to the dealer for spotting that it needed doing, even on a 7 year old car, but I'm a bit surprised that the tyres aren't an issue. Does the MOT check that the tyres are up to the legal minimum, or simply that they're black, round, and attached to the car? {Dropped the word 'Honda' from the subject header, as this discussion relates to all cars, and not one specific make - DD} -
Car Insurance Renewal 12 Nov 2007 (Forum)
He said that every business needs to make money and I said surely not by overcharging by £25-£30 on every renewal. His response, word for word - "Insurance is a dodgy old game, trust me." Well I've renewed the policy with them so we'll see what happens if I have any problems...... Chris -
01 Saxo mk2, ECU warning light problem 27 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I disconnected the battery for 2 hours, to clear any fault codes, restarted, still have the same light, took the car to my mechanic, whose has a full test setup, first used a new diagnostic tester, would not "see" the ECU, which was weird, so he then put on a old diagnostic tester, which was used on the car about a year ago, which at the time worked fine, again did not "see" or could talk to the ECU. -
Dependable Estate upto £5K 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Whats everyone elses opinion? What would you do in my opinion...everytime I read anything about them on the car by car breakdown....I'm put off for life....the Sigma gets the best write up in that but finding a decent one for decent money (whatever bought will be sold within a few months of coming back) as the Sigma doesn't look like an easy car to sell. -
406 HDI Broken aircon pipe 8 Apr 2007 (Forum)
BTW in regards to collecting the refrigerant, there is no pressure from either of the valves, so I think the system is empty. I intend to hand the job over to someone else but would like some idea of the parts cost. The car is quite old (2001 170,000 miles) so I want to know whether its worth fixing or not (cost being the main factor). Neil -
Mazda 5 Front Tyre Wear 16 Mar 2007 (Forum)
We have a six month old 5 which is a superb car apart from its voracious appetite for front tyres. At 4900 miles there is a band of wear of 25mm width for the full circumference on the inside shoulder of each front tyre, the offside being the worse. -
Peug 106 praise 6 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hi All, I would like to praise the peug 106. I bought a 95 model (1.1 petrol) in 2002 at 40000 and sold yesterday at 120000 and i found the car very comfortable ( i would ofter drive 4-5 hours a day) and i am 6ft 2, economical (48-50 mpg), and reliable only one non start in five years due to a flat battery. In the time i owned the vehicle other than brakes, tyres( the rears did 80000 miles and still had 3/4 mm tread left) exhaust service items and battery the only things i had to do to the car were as follows 55k head gasket and radiator, 66k wishbones replaced due to worn bushes and ball joints 80k new gearbox / driveshaft seal 9 years old new stereo 96k front offside wheel bearing & drive shaft gaters 112 k offside wishbone due to worn bushes ( only 46k and 3years since done last) i know peug's not everyone cup of tea - perhaps i was lucky- but i thought this was a very good car. -
Running costs, Accord coupe versus IS200 21 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I'm looking at 'nice' second-hand japanese cars,5 or 6 years old, and like the Honda Accord coupe (3 litre ones are quite cheap where I live)and Lexus IS200s. They're both suprisingly cheap to insure (not much more than my Punto believe or not)and I'm willing to take the hit on petrol costs as my mileage isn't great (about 15000 kms per year). -
Renault Scenic Dci belt problem 11 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The belt oscillation was up and down but not laterally as I would expect from a misaligned belt. An aircon engineer who checked out the compressor pulley/endfloat etc seemed to think the car has an incorrect alternator even though owner has owned car from new and has never had previous alternator repairs. Car is a few years old, has full history yet has done over 100,000 miles. Has anyone in the forum experienced similar problems with the Scenic and/or other Renault models? -
Buying at Auction 5 Dec 2005 (Forum)
With my impending redundnacy, I plan on visiting a few auctions in my spare time (lots of) to look at getting a new car once I have secured myself a new job. There are 3 near me who seem to deal with decent vehicles, Motability, Direct from Lease companies etc. I am looking at a diesel, probably about 3 years old.
