An Open Letter To Car Drivers 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
skilled? or a Trade. That we do it because we are thick and can do nothing else, that?s the reason we chose to get in your way and delay your journey by a couple of seconds. If this is the case, WHY do you then see me in a queue of slow moving traffic and trust me completely to jam on my brakes and stop as you slot into the queue, braking hard on my front bumper? -
Ford - faulty diesel injectors, hesitation on accelerating 18 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Having purchased a new DTCi Estate in May 2006 I was initially pleased with the car?s performance. However, by mid-Nov?06, the car developed annoying hesitation issues during cold-engine acceleration. It became very lumpy and difficult to start, often emitting copious grey/white smoke on turnover. -
third letter 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I parked my car in a designated pay and display bay and put the correct amount of money in the meter. Your letter of 28 September states that ?it is the driver?s responsibility to always check the conditions of use for any bay, in which they intend to park, to ensure that they have parked in accordance with the regulations?. I had checked the conditions of use and I did park in accordance with the regulations. -
Diesel Gods, This one is for you 22 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I mean the pump is mechanical and there is no ignition obviously. So the only way to drop this engine?s revs is to cut the diesel supply, however in this engine this is done via a solenoid on the injection pump which either fully cuts off the supply or leaves it fully on. So I cannot figure out for the life of me, how can the engine revs drop via some electric signal. 2) This also happens when you are driving. -
Don't try this at home. 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I know I check the oil for my other car religiously but for one week on my daily driver didn't and this happens. s**s law? Absolutely. Glad I bought the cheap RAC cover with my car insurance, too right. God knows what's wrong with it, I really hope it's a slight split in the gasket but with that much smoke I know only too well it could be something a lot more expensive. -
Alfa Romeo - Avoiding a category or a write off? 23 Oct 2024 (Forum)
The second part is that even I somehow manage to avoid the write off, im being told I will get a Category S or N, which will also reduce the cars value and potentially increase insurance costs. My questions is is there any way to to avoid my car being written off and/or being given a category. Im pretty sure I can pursuade the insurance company the car is not a write off as the cost of repairs and parts is quite low, but I really want to avoid a category altogether. -
Peugeot 508 SW - Should I change Tyres? 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Hello, I have a Peugeot 508SW Hybrid which I purchased not too long ago (couple of months) It appears in that time my front offside tyre has developed a slow puncture (will lose about 10PSI over 3 weeks) and it is just around 3mm of tread depth so I am considering replacing rather than repairing - They are also summer tyres and I would prefer All Seasons. Currently fitted are Continental EcoContact 6's all round Fronts both around 3mm, rears around 4mm. I'm just looking for a bit of advice, as if I go for replacing then I will replace all 4 at the same time as will be switching to all seasons, or whether it'd be worth getting the tyre repaired and keep it going for a bit longer. -
Fiat 500 - Who is liable for problems after a battery change? 27 Aug 2024 (Forum)
At the beginning of July I had the battery changed on my Fiat 500 (with Halfords Autocentre). Since then my bluetooth, phone connection(s) and start/stop have all stopped working and my mileage won't stop flashing. On Google's recommendation I disconnected the battery, left for 10/20 mins, and reconnected. Nothing! So, I took it back to the autocentre that changed the battery - they were stumped as to what the issue was and advised that perhaps it was a different issue that coincidentally occurred at the same time I had the battery changed. -

Mazda 3 - Can't pay a fine 11 Feb 2024 (Forum)
To be clear this is the right page - www.lambeth.gov.uk/make-payment/penalty-notices-fi...s Also when I ring up the phoneline - 0333 800 5005 to pay, the automated AI comes on, and asks me to enter the number, it says it's not recognised either! I try this website enter my details - pcnevidence.lambeth.gov.uk/pcnonline/index.php and it says this service is not currently available! -
Honda Civic 2017 - My rights? - Engine failure 15 Jan 2024 (Forum)
No warranty Reading the consumer rights act 2015 it seems I could have some recourse with the Car S and expect that they repair it as its within 6 months of buying it. It appears its not a wear and tear type issue for a timing chain to break at 45k. Since I started writing this the Car Supermarket got back to me and advised me to contact Honda main dealer and see if there is any 'good will' on behalf of manufacturer. -
Focus Mk2 rusty front wings 7 Nov 2023 (Forum)
I've noticed some Focus MK2's are looking a bit rusty on the front wings. It's the section where the sweeping extrusion shape of the metal meets the bumper. Mine (2006) is spotless but a friend has a 2008 model (just before the MK2.5 came out) and hers is bad on one side to the extent the metal has almost holed. -
Porsche Cayenne - Black Box blocked my isolation switch 17 Jul 2023 (Forum)
I recently bought a 2004 Cayenne Turbo S, and the previous owner had fitted an isolation switch as he didn't like the battery drain. I haven't been able to get it removed yet, my mechanic is doing that for me shortly. However, after installing the black box last Thursday, by Friday it had completely drained the battery. -
BMW 5 Series - Buying Approved Used BMW without seeing it first? 19 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I live in the south Englang and have found an approved used 5 series touring in Scotland that has the features (adaptive cruise control and heads up display)... -
Car solar panel battery conditioners / chargers 15 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I did a very coursory web search, and came across the usual never-heard-of, seemingly shed-built cheap Chinese tat, as well as seemingly better quality units, including one(s) sold with the AA brand (though similar to the Halfords one) for between £25 - £40. Has anyone used them before? Are they any good, especially on older cars like my 17yo Mazda3, where I'm unsure whether connecting the unit to anything other than directly to the battery would be wise - with the AA one, you have the option of also connecting the unit to the OBD port or the cigar lighter, though again I'm not sure if that would work (it supposedly needs a 'live' connection) but which my car has. -
VW golf - V888 valid reason for requesting details 11 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I received a reply to a v888 form submission. 'I can’t deal with your enquiry for the following reason(s): • Please clarify further how the information will be used if released i.e. how will you contact the keeper if released. If you still want the information, please return your correspondence with this additional information.' -
1986 Daihatsu Skywing - High Beam Fault Finding Tactics 12 Nov 2021 (Forum)
I only have the circuit diagrams for the G100, but its probably very similar It has a required connectivity diagram for the switch connector block for the (presumed) headlight switch positions HF, HL and HJ involving connections HM, HS, E, TB, S, D, D2, B1, +2, R, +1, WB, WS, F, F1, HO, INT, B2, D1 There is NO KEY for any of these abbreviations (though some of the meanings are guessable) rendering this "information" spectacularly b***** useless to me. -
Daewoo Matiz (1998 - 2004) - 02 800cc Fuel trims very negative 24 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Now I am trying to figure out why the long term (-100) and short term (-12) fuel trims are so negative. All the plugs were very sooty so it?s a universal problem. I replaced an EGR valve that was faulty and I hoped that this was the reason but thinking about it more it probably would account for a small enrichment and not this mega one. -
MG RV8 - Researching the mileage of an imported classic car 24 Sep 2021 (Forum)
The majority of the RV8's were built for the Japanese market. Many have been re-imported back to the UK and I'm considering buying one from someone who has owned it for 17 years. It was re-imported in 2000, he bought the car in 2004 and has an MOT certificate from the previous year, but he doesn't know whether the mileage stated included its time in Japan or just since it was re-imported (the KPH/Km speedo/odometer was replaced with a MPH/miles one). -
An enjoyable morning 1 Jul 2021 (Forum)
You’ll think I’m mad but I spent an enjoyable morning cleaning the mil,s car, it’s a thirteen year old Citroen c4 Picasso, it’s got a few dings and stone chips so I know I would be ok using a waterless wash without fear of causing any further damage, it’s only when you get close up and personal that you notice things, sure the alloys are starting to bubble in places, and , as mentioned the odd stone chip, but it’s in remarkable condition for its age, I was quite impressed with all the features, plenty of storage cubbies, fold out tables for the rear passengers, and plenty of room, not sure of the mileage, but I guess it’s not much, it’s done the odd airport trip when they used to go abroad, but up until her hubby passed at the end of last year, it’s not been anywhere save for the odd local trip, it passed its mot recently, and she was asked if it were for sale, I don’t think much has gone wrong with it either, a new cam belt last year, but her son looks after any mechanical issues, so just the wear and tear/ servicing stuff needed, It surprised me how taken I was with it, if er indoors could drive one, I’d seriously consider getting one, newer of course…anyway I’ve finished my rambling…and no, I don’t work for Citroen…
