overheating 23 May 2004 (Forum)
Would a 50%antifreeze/coolant mix with water lower the running temp. Also when using a high octane petrol such as shell optimax in an old conventional engine--1949standard vanguard--is the running temp raised?.My block may be sludged up ,the rad seems ok,does anyone know of a stronge internal cleaner ? -
Peugeot 306 HDi 2.0 (2000) - 306 HDi...possibly a dumb question 9 Dec 2010 (Forum)
The obvious downsides would be that if the ignition was in a pre ignition state then rather than just running for 10 seconds it would run constantly which if not paid attention to could flatten the batter obviously But other than that are there any real downsides to just abandoning the ECU/Relay control of this pump and just running it straight from a hardwired 12v supply as this would "seem" to remove a hell of a lot of "common faults" from the system that seem to do little more than the 10 second priming feature before the car starts Many thanks Mike -
Enduring computers 13 Jun 2010 (Forum)
The computer runs noticably faster without antivirus software. At times, Mrs O encounters trouble in the form of infected web pages, files and so on - obvious from the computers behaviour. But a reboot, auto revert - and it`s back to it`s normal, fast running, clean, state. -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 02 1.2 Starts then wont start 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
In the no crank period, what I assume to be the fuel pump in the boot area can be heard to prime/run, the starter motor turns, the engine cranks, but theres no spark in the leads. (removed plugs 1 at a time for visual check, and used a voltage presence testing screwdriver (when engine is running this flashes with the ign pulses)) If you stop the engine, and start it again within a minute or so, it will run fine again. -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1997 1.8 Heater blower motor - a/c fitted 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Total mileage is 81,000, the condition of the car supports this. Firstly, the heater blower motor. This runs v-e-r-y slowly when I first start the engine, with a faint "poorly electric motor" noise. I should mention that all 3 fan speeds work but the fan is only running at a fraction of the speed it should, ie on speed 3 it starts off running at an audible 10 revolutions per second or so, on speed 2 it is slower and on speed 1 barely turning at all. -
Vauxhall vectra sri direct - Running and starting issues 28 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The issues are, the car tends to start without an issue initially, it will then idle perfectly for around 30 secs and then becomes very lumpy and dies, sometimes it will restart and if it does it continues to run lump, when it initially starts and runs for 30 secs I also can't touch the accelerator pedal because it then also runs very lumpy and dies. Now I bought the car as spares and repairs claiming it to be a fueling issue, after spending a fair few pennies on replacing high pressure fuel pump, fuel regulator and fuel pressure sensor and fuel filter the issue still remains, I have measured the fuel coming to the high pressure fuel pump and when running it constantly stays at 4 bar which indicates no issue with lift pump. -

Citroen Picasso - Poor running 2.0 hdi 9 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I replaced the alternator on a friend's 2.0l hdi Picasso. A simple job I thought it also needed a battery as the had been run very low. It started perfectly after replacment and they drove away. The next day they call saying it won' start. I go to investigate and they are nearly correct. It did start but took forever chasing and chattering. -

BMW 535 M Sport Touring - Run Flats do fail and are not always drivable 13 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Just to let folk know that run flats can fail so badly, they need instant replacement as they are not fit to drive. My passenegr side rear went on the motorway yesterday and I ended with a whopping bill. I thought I could limp home but the inner wall shredded (a smaller version of last seasons F1 tyre disasters) and the drivers side looked as though it might follow suit. -
Countryman All4 - Winter or All-Season Tyres 12 Oct 2014 (Forum)
There are only specific all-season tyres available in correct size (225/45r18) which are a Pirelli (run flat) or Kleber Quadraxer (non run flat). What would your advice be, and should I stick to run flats or would non-RF be OK ? (which would greatly improve ride, handling AND possible reduce the unbearable noise !) -
Ford Focus - Focus Mk1 juddering 30 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi, my mk1 Focus 1.8 zetec 2004 has started juddering when accelerating. It only seems to happen after its been running for about half hour and is warm. When I run the car first thing it runs fine but once warm that's when the juddering starts. It normally happens when pulling off from lights for example. It seems to happen in 2nd and 3rd gear around 1500 revs up to 3000 revs I've been reading around and it seems that it could be Fuel filter related problem, I was wondering if anyone else has had the problem or could offer advice on it. -
BMW Z3 - Run flat tyres 13 Apr 2014 (Forum)
It doesn't have a spare wheel because it is so small, which means if I had a punture in the middle of rural north Yorkshire where we live, I would be totally stuck. Are run flat tyres a good idea for this situation? Would I have to change all 4 at once, or could I do it gradually as the current tyres wear out? Thank you. -
Land Rover Defender - Who's running biodiesel in their motor? 7 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I have a 1991 Land Rover Defender 110 with the naturally aspirated diesel engine fitted, and have so far clocked up 7000 trouble free miles using my own home-made biodiesel. I am curious who else is running their vehicles on biodiesel, and whether they have had any problems. I am particulary interested in people who are using biodiesel in modern common rail injection cars. Let me know if anyone is interested! -
Peugeot 1.8 - Peugeot 7 Jan 2012 (Forum)
On behalf of a friend, so I don't know full details of the model, but her Peugeot is only a few years old and her car runs out of petrol very quickly. For example, she tops up her car to Half a Tank of petrol, but it runs down to the next level of the metre after just 3 miles. This results in her having to buy petrol much more often, which is expensive and is consuming more petrol than her car is meant to consume. -
Renault Scenic 1.9dTi - check emissions warning 23 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I have a continous "check emissions" warning but the car is running fine with no problems. My local indepedant garage ran a diagnostic check and came back with a code DF209 EGR Valve Position Circuit. As the car was running ok they just reset the warning, but it came back up after a couple of days. -
Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec Petrol - Ford Focus (2000 X reg) Running Lumpy 27 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi, My focus has started having a problem where it runs lumpy, the symptoms I have are: Fuel Gauge is inaccurate and only moves between 1/4 and 1/2 When petrol tank is fuel the car feels like it's holding back above 5,000 RPM When petrol is low the car won't gain any power when starting uphill and just limps, this also happens when driving normally and can be difficult to start. -
02 307 2.0 hdi 110 - Smoke on cold start and lumpy running 12 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Its hard to say if it did this before or not due to the turbo fault, it starts fine but smokes a bit and runs lumpy for the first 30 seconds or so. It clears and is then fine except for what can only be described as a tappety noise which comes and goes but is noticable more when you slow down and use engine braking. -
Ford Fiesta 1388cc Zetec - Poor low speed running 25 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Jumped in my 1388cc zetec Fiesta today after it had been stood for 2 weeks and did a 6 mile round trip.It ran lumpy at low speed as if running on three cylinders or missing. No go in it until wound up to 60mph where it seemed smooth at that speed on neutral throttle.Back on my driveway it did tick over but revved up very poorly. It`s done approx 120k with oil&filter changed regularly, and cam belt at 100k....but not a lot else done within the last 40k for service to the engine.Don`t want to fork out for injection cleaner if it`s something I can tinker with for free.Any ideas please?
