More b****y Mondeo woes 19 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Battery so flat the clock doesnt even work. Kids wont take no for an answer, so root out the old battery I kept when I scrapped the Passat months ago. On with the jump leads and it starts first time. Well done Passat. I wish I had sold the Mondeo to pay for the MOT repairs to the Passat. God but I hate that Mondeo!! -
WEIGHT 1 Oct 2001 (Forum)
i NOTICE THAT MY NEW XSARA TD110 ESTATE WEIGHES 60KG MORE THAN MY 6 YEAR OLD PEUGEOT 405 TD ESTATE. wHERE WILL ALL THIS END? IF YOU LOOK AT THE WEIGHTS OF THE VARIOUS vw gOLFS OVER THE YEARS YOU REACH THE INESCAPABLE CONCLUSION THAT THE THINGS ARE GROUND OUT OF DEPLETED uRANIUM. i'M WELL AWARE THAT THINGS HAVE TO BE MORE CRASHPROOF,BUT ADDED WEIGHT INCREASES THE ENERGY TO BE DISSIPATED IN DIRECT PROPORTION. oNE SOLUTION WOULD BE TO GET A DESIGNER OF AIRCRAFT INTERIORS TO DO THE SEATS,HAVE YOU TRIED TO LIFT A CAR SEAT RECENTLY? -
7 seats - Zafira or V70? 11 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Someone I know who has one says that drivers don't tailgate you when you have children in the back seats! Volvo chap says that the seats are in the safety cage area. I also wonder if car sickness is a problem as they face backwards I'm impressed by the versatility of the Zafira, but wonder if a 2-3 year old V70 may last longer and have better residuals. Are the Zafiras OK to drive? -
Vectra wont start 2 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I have experienced problem with my 1995 1.8 petrol Vectra (owned since 6 months old). In certain weather conditions, a combination of frost & damp the car, which is serviced regularly, will not fire or start. It always happens incidentally whilst on my drive. This has happened 4 or 5 times & each time I call out the local Vauxhall dealer who has found the only way to start it is to bump start (Jump leads are not sufficient) After full diagnostic check the dealer has never been able to find the fault. -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 99 3.0 530d Autobox Issue - ?? 9 May 2009 (Forum)
The oil was no longer Red, more of a really dark brown (not black) did smell burnt.. smelt like old oil. the viscosity I would say was like a 0-5W engine oil....where I understand ATF (yea I know these cars use a special L.Life fluid...) should be more like 30W. It is not possible to drain the Torque converter on these babies without taking said box out or doing the old oil cooler off trick and running the engine. -
Car choice dilemma - £5-7k 8 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Hi there, As many of you may be aware, I am not satisfied with my 1.6 TDCi 110 LX Focus, 5dr 06-reg. Having paid £9,000 I actually consider it disappointing as an all-round car (handling inferior to old model, no real equipment e.g. computer, heated front screen, alloys etc, and the interior is a let down, feeling cheaper in areas than the old Focus), and I really need about £2,000 for other personal uses, so I have decided to sell the car. -
Good Deed for the day, maybe. 12 Nov 2001 (Forum)
We had proceded half a mile and nothing was happening. I had no choice but to overtake, and in doig so I hemmed the volvo in. I got out of the car and confronted the old lady driving. Said that she tapped the vehicle but that no damage was done. I told her that she did a lot of damage to that car and said I was going to inform the owner. Upon saying that, I started to walk the half-mile back to the damaged car, leaving my fiancee and our dog in my car. -
Suzuki Swace - Some views as requested by GB 23 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Nothing has went wrong to date in the 12,000 miles it has covered. at 2.5 years old the front tyres (Bridgestones) are on 3-3.5 mm with the rears on 5mm from gentle driving. The colour of the car is an unusual dark brown/purple metallic which is not standing up well to marks and scratches, especially at the rear hatch and bumper (dogs again!). -
Mazda 6 - Cam sensor fault, replacement engine cutting out 14 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I did decide to replace the engine and found one online for £1500 (reconditioned - Japp Auto Parts, UK). The engine arrived, the old one was taken out by a local garage and the new one put in. The old engine did still run but was a little rattly. Also of note before the oil pump issue was discovered was that there was an engine warning light flagging up a defective cam shaft sensor. -
Problem Polo Repurchased 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
An update on my troublesome VW Polo, if anyone remembers some old threads regarding its electrical woes. Background. Bought new, now 16 months old has had electrical problems from new resulting in 5 long stays in the garage, and 8 breakdowns. The problem was intermittent and hard to pinpoint but resulted in the battery draining down in a matter of hours. -
Ford Mondeo - 2001 Mondeo 2.0tddi - various/related problems? 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
If you hold it at 2000rpm the needle bounces between 1750 & 2000. Confused, it's a 9yr old car, how much money do you throw at it before you give up? Main questions: 1. Does it sound like DMF has gone/is going? 2. Why else would there be metal filings on crank sensor? -

Other - Big+Tall guy - car recommendations please 1 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm 6ft 2, 500lbs with wide hips and a big behind - I'm looking to buy a car and would like some recommendations from those who may be big or tall or ideally both, on what cars they have found comfortable to drive? I don't mind whether it's manual or automatic, and I''ll be buying an old 2nd hand (max £2.5K budget) if that helps narrow things down. -
Simple late 90's small car engines - advice needed 13 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I need to buy a new small car as we need two cars. We currently have a 1.3 Fiesta Ghia which is ok but has lots of annoying problems nobody can fix although its a simple engine. I am thinking about buying an old style Corsa B 8 valve, 1.4 is there anything I need to be aware on these engines? -
Cars are different inside 17 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Some wise old car enthusiast once said in my presence that the outside appearance of a car was its least important feature. He proposed that it was how it felt and looked inside and indeed how well it drove that was the really important thing. -
Ford diesel engine needs replacing 5 Dec 2006 (Forum)
This cost £393. Again the car ran ok for a time but then started running really bad and knocking. Last week they collected the car and now they have examined it and told me that one of the con rods is a bit bent. I will have to pay for a new engine or the old one to be disassembled and rebuilt with new parts for several thousand pounds. -
Caveat Emptor 11 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Feel sorry for the private man because the cars are sold as seen i.e no warranty. You get the impression from the hype and marketing that these are quality cars because it is an open BMW sale, but many of the cars had not been serviced for over two years, many three year old low/average mileage cars had three/four owners. -
Your help needed ASAP 5 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I signed on the dotted line and left. Come today I went to pick up my "new" 04 reg car only to be informed that they had been unable to supply a new unregistered car and had preregistered it and also that there was no free servicing with it. I nearly blew up in the showroom. I was stuck in a town many miles from hone / work with no way to get back so i took the car when they offered 2 years free servicing as a goodwill gesture, since I live in a village with no bus service to speak of and having on friday sold my old car privately. -
Landrover valuation 17 Sep 2003 (Forum)
It's offered at £11.5K. I see the car as a 1986 car in good cond. My valuation £5/6K ? Seller says car is basically 2 years old. Depreciation of £1.25 pa (unrealistic ?) gives £11.5K. Any thoughts ? -
Nissan Almera Tino auto late 2003 - Steering wheel vibration at 60-65mph plus, not w/b? 20 May 2010 (Forum)
Was noted one wheel now on the front that had been on the rear was particularly hard to balance. Took car to another balancer, a well-known local family firm. They too found one the NSF hard to balance but said the the OSF was out anyway. Supervisor told balancer to take tyre off the hard to balance one and see if debris or old sealant inside.
