  • Ford Focus - Roof bar Fixing points - risk of corrosion? 23 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I first had to repair the damage caused by the previous owner who had removed the mastic from over the holes on the driver side and tried and failed to remove the old screws. They were all mangled and jammed in so I had to drill them out. My concern is that the roof bar fixing covers do not provide a 'seal' with the car body so the bare bolt and the gulley are exposed.
  • Honda Accord 96 - Refit Repaired ABS Modulator - new problems 9 Oct 2013 (Forum)
My mechanic then put it back in but the light is still on so he checked the fault codes and there are four new ones coming up along with the two old one. ECU Testing advised him to clean sensors and reset but no luck. Does anyone have any experience with this? My car has been off the road now for two weeks. TIA.
  • Ford Fiesta Saloon - 'W' reg - Heater always on hot 3 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, first of all, apologies for the lack of vehicle information - its my father in law's car and he's 80 years old!! From what he's told me, the heater rotary dial is on cold but there is a constant stream of hot air coming out of the heater. I know nothing about this model - whether it has cable controlled heater operation or electric.
  • Ford Mondeo Estate - Sold a vehicle which has been clocked 13 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I bought a vehicle three and half years ago which was all in my name and owned by me after a few months the good lady decided that it was to big for her and i advertised it and sold it. The vehicle at the time was just over 2 years old a few days ago i had a letter from the person i sold it to saying that they had come to sell the car and there was a mileage problem the vehicle had been clocked and wanted me to pay compensation or they were going to take legal action they have been advised by citizens advice that there would be the case against me.
  • Seat Exeo ST - Sound advice freely given - thanks HJ 30 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Just wanted to say a really big thank you to HJ for the really excellent advice he gavce me when I needed to purchase a second-hand estate car and was tempted to go for a 4-5 year old Audi A4 Avant.  His general advice was, and I paraphrase here - 'if you're not too bothered about having the status symbol four rings on your radiator grill, go get a Seat Exeo ST'.
  • fiesta 97 - Fiesta ignition key barrel (again - sorry) 29 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Hi there,  Sorry to raise this old subject again, I've read all the posts I can find on here without a solution. The ign key no longer wants to turn so I need to get the barrel out. I have no pin hole to poke a paperclip in, I can't see any circlips, there is an indented 'hole' on top of the barrel housing but it is solid so no go.
  • Honda Accord Tourer - Battery died but has green "telltale" LED 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Over the bank holiday weekend it hasn't been driven and now it cranks but will not start. The original battery is the OE one, so 8 years old. I guess it doesn't owe meanything so I was planning to nip straight out in my wifes car when the shops reopen tomorrow and buy a new one. BUT I was having a nose around under the bonnet to look at connections, retaining straps etc and saw that the "battery condition" window still shows a green telltale.
  • Peugeot 206 1.6 hdi - DPF Replacement Question 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Could it be such a simple thing that changing the glow plugs and allowing it to regen would solve my problem?  I'm not sure exactly how old the DPF is as I purchased the car at 55k and it's now at 71k and I have no idea if it had one on before I purchased it. Thanks in advance,   Danny.
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate - Instrument panel gone blank 9 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I have a Mercedes E Class estate reg 2009, [old shape] and yesterday the instrument panel went blank. The car starts and the indicators and lights work but there is no speedo, rev counter etc, which are all on the instrument panel.   I got this advice from anther page on this site, can anyone confirm it is safe and worthwhile attempting?
  • Pug 307 - cambelt 22 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I have replaced cambelts on 106's and on saxo's and they are relatively straight forward. I have been quoted in the region of £370 by the garages around here and due to the cars age it isn't worth forking out that kind of money when if I do it it will cost around £80 -£100 inc the water pump. I don't have a belt tension tester and so it would be the old 90 degree twist method.
  • Daily Telegraph advice - Honest John 10 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I'm looking for a £3,500 car to replace my Mazda 6. I don't drive a huge annual mileage, but most individual journeys are long so I want diesel economy, comfort and reliability. A Ford Mondeo or Focus would be suitable, because I need to carry a bike, and it's fine by me if it already has 80,000-odd miles on the clock.
  • Scratches on paintwork 1 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I have a 6 month old Ford Fiesta in vision blue and recently there were some small scratches under the crease on the passenger side rear door. I dont know how but its pi**ed me off.   Over the past year i have used a mobile dent/paint repair service and this time I showed this damage to him.
  • Peugeot 306 - Peugeot 306 1.9td smoking under load. 8 Apr 2012 (Forum)
It started though after a recent cambelt change. The old belt was very slack and the new one (Inc rollers) made a very noticeable difference in performance, a slight one in mpg and the engine even sounds more like a diesel! it does around mid 40's mpg wise.

  • BMW 1 Series - 600 miles added to clock after sale agreed 6 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Hi,  When I collected a nearly new car (9 months old / 5000 miles on clock) from the local BMW dealership at the weekend, having agreed the sale and put down a deposit for a few weeks ago, I found that it had been driven an additional 600 miles since the test drive.
  • Volvo V70 - rear end shunt 11 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Oddly the idle speed is now fast too. The rear tailgate was replaced and several rear end items like the bumper too so it was a fair old smash. The car was mot tested and serviced recently and none of the faults listed were present but I have to attribute them to the accident or pay out myself. If I was trying to con the insurance I would have screamed whiplash and got the ambulance chasers on it

I have looked at a Golf 1.9 TDI & poss a Citroen xsara 1.6 hdi, even a Berlingo!! I don't want to go down the Landrover route, (i just don't like them), nuff said - but an estate, hatchback or like as I have two dogs and want to camp at dog shows.
  • 2008 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi - Loose fuel injector pipe 20 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I've just purchased a 3 yr old 1.8 TDCi ford focus from a main dealer. On getting it home I realised it was leaking diesel all over my driveway. A quick trip back to the dealer and they identified that one of the injector pipes had come loose and they reattached it.
  • Ford Focus Saloon 1600 zetec - Semi-synthetic or fully synthetic oil? 14 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I wonder, do I really need to use fully synthetic oil, or am I okay with part synthetic and if so, can someone recommend an oil? Also, should I be looking at a thicker oil for an old older engine? As some have suggested, as my car seems to be using a small amount of oil monthly. There are no leaks or blues smoke so lord knows where its going.
