Cameravan Club 14 Nov 2009 (Ask HJ)
Regarding speed camera locators, I was bought a Novus GPS Rider for my birthday. This is advertised at about £95 and comes with free updates for life and... -
Con current? 20 Jun 2009 (Ask HJ)
Having read with interest the various recent articles on the recent crop of electric cars. One common thing strikes you about all of them, their huge purchase... -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1999 1.8 Courier van instrument/electrical problem 7 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I went to start the van and it wouldn't start. The starter motor never turned over but the lights were bright and the battery seemed good. I tried several times then called the breakdown people. Anyway, whilst waiting for them to arrive I decided to try again and after 15 minutes the van started as normal. This has happened twice after switching off the ignition. -
Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 1997 1.2 high idle and rough 31 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I took it to Renault to get a diagnostic check - no faults on the ECU but cos it was idleing high they disconnected the battery to reset it and that fixed it. Of course by the time I got home it was idleing too high again! Sorry for such a long description of the problem but hopefully somebody can spot the problem in there! -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.6 Full Beam issue, now disabled on car 10 Dec 2008 (Forum)
So starting at the top, the best thing I could do is remove the 5&10amp fuses one by one in a trial and error experiment to stop the battery going flat on me. Found one that disabled one, however the right hand side, remained on, I had to (again foolishly, but I was desperate) pop the bonnet and physically disconnect the wiring to the bulb) to stop flattening the battery. -
Please Help - Audi Coolant Pressure 8 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Please can someone shed some light where the mechanics cant seem to: The car has always been reliable until recently the water thermostat clip disappeared, the t-stat fell out allowing the water to drain out instantly the warning light came on and I managed to pull over before the car got to the red line, probably got to about 120c. When trying to start the car again the engine barely made any attempt and the battery sounded dead, I assume this means the engine partially seized due to the heat? Black smoke and a burning stench came out of the engine. Car was taken to a garage and they replaced the t-stat and all the coolant, replaced the battery and it all started fine, they ran it for about 40 minutes checked pressure and all looked good. -
Used model Y good deal or not? 4 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Performance is incredible, obviously it's an acquired taste and it is not for me but here's the thing: it's a long range and he was expecting maybe naively high 200s range. He's lucky to get 200 so far. By my reckoning, it will have lost about 10 % battery through degradation, giving about 68 kWh useable (down from 75) internet says average consumption about 3.3 miles per kWh, giving him about 220 miles. He's a fast motorway man, so I'm guessing his range is about right. -
Toyota RAV4 - 2014 Toyota - TPMS sensor replacement 9 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Kwikfit or similar - but I have read (rightly or wrongly) that aftermarket sensors only have half the battery life and that fastfits can only code the generic type (so I could not bring them a set of genuine sensors for fitting and coding)? Are there any expert recommendations please? This must be a common dilemma nowadays but I haven't found clear pricing information online. -
VOLVO EC40, twin engine, electric - Range not as advertised 9 Jan 2025 (Forum)
The range advertised is 331 but getting 230 on run London to Oxford. I fully appreciate variants as have had another Volvo for 3 years with an older battery with less capacity and I am getting similar range. I would realistically expect to get 280/300 range. Whole purpose of another car was specifically for longer range which I highlighted whilst searching. -
Ford Fusion - Alarm problem 11 May 2024 (Forum)
However, this did not work today, and the alarm went off again and again, so I had to disconnect the battery. With the noise removed I could think to find the fuse panel behind the glove box. I found that the alarm horn could be stopped by removing fuse 24, but this might have other consequences. Maybe I could simply disconnect the alarm horn if it is not too inaccessible? -
Toyota Yaris mark 3 - advice re bigger car/aging Toyota Yaris 13 Dec 2023 (Forum)
She is very reliable,in the two years that I have had her I have replaced all the tyres as they were quite worn when I got her,the original battery went and her brakes need some work soon. I love her! however she is almost 12 years old and I have a toddler now,and a medium sized dog. I am worried that she is getting older, everything inside the car is very cramped even without a dog or baby a big load of shopping and my work stuff fills the car. -
Any - How clean is your exhaust tailpipe?! 25 Oct 2023 (Forum)
However, if I run my finger round the end of the exhaust, it comes out covered in soot! Clearly it doesn’t have any form of petrol GPF and it shows! I guess the idea is that the battery is charged and used for urban running to improve local air quality, but I was surprised quite how much filth was lining the exhaust pipe. -
Peugeot 205 1.8D - Rev limiter tampered! 30 Aug 2023 (Forum)
When I took over a tractor other day, the car has pause round 4,000rpm, it doesn't feel like is limited on right rev of 5,540rpm what my manual book said, I have a multimeter tool clip the positive red cable to the alternator signal and the black negative to the battery. Idle speed on cold and warm is prefect, but when I tried to raise the max rev, my multimeter screen number has disappeared after 2,000rpm. I could not check the max rev numbers. I was thought that my multimeter was faulty when I purchased a new and better one than the old, it is done the same numbers is disappeared after 2,000rpm. -

Fiat 500 TwinAir Lounge 2015 model (pre-facelift) - The inner LCD screen has gone dark 16 Dec 2022 (Forum)
I have looked on line and checked the tailgate wiring, the 5 amp fuse in the "glovebox", and disconnected the "snap on" connector on the negative terminal. Also tested the battery and it is fine. I have looked at various Fiat forums but none describe my symptoms. So any bright ideas (a poor attempt at humour)? -
Hyundai i10 key fobs 23 Sep 2022 (Forum)
As soon as she walks off, the car sounds a buzzing type sound and on dashboard it says "key out of car" I know, you think its battries, but didn't manufacturers have a way to send a signal to keys, get a code reply without battries? Hope it is just a battery fault, or im stuck with free hier car for several weeks. Thanks, John -
1986 Daihatsu Skywing - Alternator Operating Temperature? 21 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Daylight run, so only indicator lights and ignition, but the cooling fan was on all the time under manual control. The battery had been bench charged before starting. Couldn't find much on this in a car context from a quick Google, but a discussion on a yachting forum seems to indicate maybe 100C as a rough rule of thumb maximum. -

Toyota Yaris - Use a car cover, or not? 10 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Now previously when I have laid up my car in Thailand (usually for four months) I have just disconnected the battery and inflated the tyres to 40psi. The car is parked on a covered parking deck at our condominium. Its sheltered from the sun and rain, but open to the air. The area is kept very clean by a team of cleaners. -
Mickey Mouse Motor Corporation - Zero carbon - zero charge 17 Jun 2021 (Forum)
An electric coach travelling from London to Cornwall for the G7 Summit was left stranded outside the Eden Project over the weekend, after its battery ran out of juice before finding a charging point. Turns out the race to zero is easier than expected… The Carbon Battle Bus, which attempted the stunt as part of Planet Mark’s ‘Zero Carbon Tour’, ground to a halt with hundreds of miles left on the journey, having failed to find a single functioning charging point across their entire trip through Cornwall.
