Wet blank-it

I have valid VW Road Side Assist and VW Extended warranty for my 8-year-old VW Passat and the car is parked outside on my driveway. Unfortunately my Alarm system suddenly took on a life of its own and started to operate whenever it felt like it - much to the annoyance of my neighbours - especially overnight. I called out VW Assist and they were unable to deactivate the Alarm system and I had to leave the car unlocked until I got it to a VW dealer. The dealers investigations established that water ingress at the N/S footwell was the problem. Fortunately, after removal of seats and carpets, seal replacements and electrical repair to the system, followed by lengthy drying-out time the system was back to normal. Imagine my disappointment, after a bill of over £800, that the Warranty cover excluded water ingress and did not even cover the seal replacements - which allowed the water to get in initially. Surely this is a design fault?

Same old Passat problem. The vent well rainwater drains get blocked at the tops (one outlet is under the battery), the vent well floods, and the water has nowhere to go except via the pollen filter into the car. A warranty is never going to cover damage caused by a driver's failure to keep the drains clear.
