• Nissan Micra 1.0 - 20w/40 oil in a Micra? 16 Aug 2010 (Forum)
  01 Micra 1.0 K11, 98k miles The oil needs a little top up every 3 months or so. Normally, I use 15W/40 oil. This time I bought some el-cheapo 20W/40 oil from Morrisons supermarket. Will this affect the engine adversely, part from maybe a slight performance change?

  I want to do an interim change on my Merc c220 cdi. The recommended oil is Castrol 0-30 or Mobil 1. But with it needing 5.5 litres the cost is between £60-£80 because I will need 2*4 litre cans. Am I being too picky and would a similar grade semi-synthetic oil be OK?

  Despite asking several VW dealers I've never got a definitive answer on which oil I should use in a year 2000 golf non-PD TDI (90bhp). I currently use SLX Long life which is a quality oil but is expensive and may be an over kill considering I change the oil every 4000 miles/6 months.

  I drive a Saab 9000 Aero, 2.3l Turbo, so the engine and turbo can get pretty hot. It has been run on semi-synthetic before I bought it with regular changes, but I want to try it on the best oil I can get, and am hence contemplating Mobil 1 with 6-monthly changes (approx 5l miles). The cost doesnt bother me too much. What I have heard are rumours that it is too thin, and doesnt provide the turbo shaft with a sufficient cushion of oil on startup.

  Changed the oil in my Mondeo tddi yesterday. Went looking for the filter and drew a blank! Is it in that plastic canister thingamajig in front of the sump? If so what sort of tool do i need to undo it?

  I think ive covered everything for you to get your teeth in for now, but prob not lol. guys, thanks in advance for your time reading this, im just worried about it a little, always in the back of my mind. i will pop back tomorrow about same time. All the best john ps, just a little info, in case it matters. i started to do oil and filter changes myself, noticed few days ago, changed oil. with the oil drained, i put key in to turn electrics on, oil level monitor pops up with full bars and ok. so will book into indy to check it.

  I had an oil change done on my Nissan today and the garage use Valvoline, also an easy name to get confused with Havoline. From what I've read Valvoline is an American company with a good reputation in America, but how common is the oil here and is a litre to carry around for emergencies easy to buy in Britain?

  I am about to carry out an oil change, whilst I can find the drain plug, the oil filter is not too obvious. Can anyone point me in the right direction and precise location. Many thanks.

  my old escort is due an MOT soon ( next week) i was going to treat it to an oil change and ive aquired some halfords semi- synth can i use that or do i have to stick to mineral oil ...thankyou

  Just done an oil/filter change on the Almera, and used Tesco's "own brand" 10w40 semi-synthetic, as it was much cheaper than Halfords brand. It doesn't particularly bother me whose oil I use as long as it's up to the right spec (it's up to API SL spec), but does anyone out there know who manufactures it?

  Had my 2.0l / '99Focus' oil changed at a "rapid fit" place. checked the oil it is over the max mark on the dipstick by about 4mm, will this cause any damage, i need to travel about 25 miles to get back to the "rapid fit" place to get it drained will this do any harm?

  Hi I have Golf Mk4 1.6se(8v) 99 reg, can somebody tell me what gearbox oil is required, type and make, and how many litres it will take? Im having problems engaging my gears sometimes and Ive read changing the gear oil should help, is this true?! noel

  It's time to change the oil on the old Saxo 1.1 engine,but I notice it's not your regular sump bolt.So I'm assuming it's of the allen key/torque screw variety.So can anyone tell me what size it is? Also,as I have no information with it,what oil is recommended for it?

  What do you think of millers engine oil? Just done a oil & filter change to my grandads merc A class 160cdi used this stuff 5w-40 i think fully synthetic for petrol and diesel. At a wopping £32.00 for 5ltrs the stuff before was fully synthetic at about £27.50.

  Intermittently, on the dash centre computer display a warning message comes up, telling us to check the engine oil level. The oil pressure warning light does not illuminate and the engine oil is full. Just as a precaution, I intend to change the oil and filter, can anyone suggest courses of action should the message persist.

  Really as the title suggests, im after an oil extractor that will fit throught the dipstick tube to remove the engine oil. The reason for this is although the car has been regularly serviced by the same garage for six years (with annual oil changes) they used the extraction method, and the sump plug has not been moved in that time and it shows, i cant move it and its to risky to take to a garage.

  hi all on my bmw e46 w reg the amber oil light comes on just after start up stays on for about 10 secs then goes out i have been told it might be the oil sensor but to give it a oil and filter change first does anybody know what the best grade of oil will be to use cheers

  I am going to do a oil change on my Nissan X trail 2.2 DI year 2002,what is the recommended engine oil,is it standard or synthetic,I can get fuchs 15/40 engine oil from work this is for petrol/diesel, turbo and non turbo would this be a good oil to use?
