Servicing a low mileage vehicle - necessary? 27 Oct 2009 (Forum)
It's also booked in for its annual service, but because we've had to pay out for a number of things recently SWMBO, who handles the household finances, objected to this. The car doesn't do many miles - I think it's averaged out at ~5k per year since we bought it, currently <60k - so her reasoning was that it should be ok to miss the service out. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - v5 query 18 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The listed owner of the car on the V5 is a company (I think it was Norwich Union or Cornhill Insurance or someone like that) rather than an individual. What does this mean? Does this mean it might be owned by a finance company and hence might have outstanding debts still owing on it? 2. I checked online and the car is listed as having only one previous owner. The trader told me he had bought it about a month ago but would this not mean that the car has had two owners? -
Is the car market dead? 28 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I was googling for car sales and came across a few articles saying that the sales of new and used cars has basically ground to a halt. Probably why so many firms are now offering 0% finance on new cars. I also gather that sales of 4x4s, MPVs and large saloons have ground to a halt with dealers now refusing to take them in part-ex out of fear of being unable to sell them on - does this mean we are all going to be driving around in tiny cars in the next few years as everyone ditches their big cars? -
Help! about to view used car - best HPI type check 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I've no reason to think this - but I need to be sure with an HPI type check. What are the best one's? , are any cheaper than HPI? Do they all guarantee to pick up all o/s finance? The amounts are relatively small, the car is advertised for £995 (1.0 GX Micra / 64K P reg) so i'm guessing she paid the thick end of £2K last Nov, possibly in cash, but then again.... any thoughts The car is present for my son. -
BMW 1 Series E81/E87 (2004 - ) - Where to source 1 series BMW 5 Mar 2008 (Forum)
For the BCA BMW auctions, anyone know what the sale basis is ie 'sold as seen', 'no major mech' etc? These sales are bad finance or pre lease cars. -
Used car for £7000 (diesel estate) 11 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I've got around £7000 to spend and I'm looking for a diesel estate, I hope to change it in a year or so once I've worked out how the finances are going. So far I'm thinking of: Audi A4 Avant - I've seen some with high mileage (130,000 / 03 plate), does anyone know if they go on much futher? Mazda 6 - I've currently got an 07 plate and it's okay Saab - 9-5 Volvo - either V40 or V70 Also, I've been to cargiant and some of the cars there look interesting - does anyone have experience or buying from them? -
Y reg E Class v 55 reg Signum? 14 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I need to economise in all areas of my motoring and it will soon be time to say goodbye to my '54 Subaru Forester 2.5XTn. This is costing me £410/month on finance and at 20k a year is doing twice the mileage I anticipated - 27 mpg and two services a year. I'm looking for a diesel estate and a spend of £11-12,000. I prefer what I see as the added security of a main dealer purchase and am prepared to sacrifice a bit of fuel ecomonomy (will accept high 30's mpg) for a little added performance My heart says go for a 5/6 year old E Class of 5 Series. -
What will £450 a month get me 21 Jun 2006 (Forum)
What do you recommend? Personal Contract Hire or buy something with a loan? I have no deposit and can finance £15,000 over 3 years. PCH looks good as it can include maintenance but will be more limited in my choice. Trade Sales have Mondeo 2.2 ST TDCi's for around £14k with less than 10k on the clock. -
Yes Car Credit 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm going with a mate tomorrow to Yes card credit 'cos he's looking to buy and struggling to get the finance anywhere else. Has anyone dealt with them? I know their prices are supposed to be extortionate from what I've heard. But are the cars up to the job? Or do they get a load of thrashed ex-renta cars and sell them off to unsuspecting customers? -
Help needed with choosing new car please 31 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Pricewise we dont really want to spend too much, as we have a 6 year old Escort to trade or sell, and the rest will have to be finance. Thanks all Amanda -
Oil Additives - Any good? 12 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Because of the milage we take a fair hit in depreciation, but it will be worse this time with the drop in new car prices effecting the second hand market. Negative equity re the finance means the cars will have to run to about 120,000 (very hard) miles before they can be replaced. Is it worth using oil an oil additive to preserve engine life? Are they just a bit of clever marketing, or do they really make a difference? -
Peugeot Woes 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Immediately after picking it up I noticed some faults. And I was not happy about the way the dealer tricked me into the remaining finance. Firstly, he told me the interest rate as 4.5%. It was only when I went to pick the car up this was 9%. After putting down a deposit and then the final balance I felt like I had no choice but to sign the finance agreement. -
Mazda 3 - Car sold with no service history. Advice/Feedback 21 Jun 2017 (Forum)
The next day, having been told by Mazda the cost for bring the services up to date, and fix the issues would total in excess of £1000, I contacted the finance company to raise a complaint and discuss returning the vehicle to Stoneacre. Mazda also stated that the oil was so diluted it was above the mark, and there was a strange noise from under the bonnet. -
2005 Ford Mondeo Estate - Used Car Issue 25 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I bought a 2005 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 130 Zetec Estate in October 2014 from Evans Halshaw on finance. The car cost £1843 but in order to get finance, the total needed to be over £2000. The salesman suggested adding a 12 month warranty, which I did. On Saturday, I was coming off the motorway and down a bypass. -
Mercedes Sprinter - Warranties and where we stand 21 Apr 2014 (Forum)
On 20/12/13 we took delivery of a Merc Sprinter used van on an 09 plate, having done just over 48 thousand miles from Anchor Vans Reading on finance. Came with a 3 month/3000 miles warranties whichever came first. Husband uses it for his local delivery job involving newspapers and magazines via Smiths News.....a 7 night a week contract, so the miles creep up quickly. -
First car buying advice 22 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Trying to save for this car would take me the best part of a year (I pay rental on a house too) so I've decided on a loan over 3 years. Definitely preferable to a finance agreement at a dealers, as a loan will have a much lower rate of interest, and will make it possible to take the full cash amount to the dealer and haggle the price down. So on a monthly basis, the car loan will cost me £100 and the insurance will cost me £100. -
Dealer trade in 30 Sep 2024 (Forum)
We had a 2014 car to trade in that was in very good condition and after the salesman looked over it agreed a price. We then had all the finance documents and the dealership order form emailed, all now signed and ready for car to be collected on Thursday. Anyways, today a advisory warning comes up on the dash, that the stop start function is inactive, looking at the possible reasons, it's either most likely batter or sensor related. -
Used Car With High Driving Position <9K 2 Mar 2022 (Forum)
I only have the part ex value of my Note which is about £9000 maximum so I know I'm limited to car options in this budget. I am not in a position to get finance or a loan so it's the car part ex value only. Needs to be petrol and preferably 1.2L. Would consider 1.6L if necessary. Trying to keep road tax and fuel costs as little as I can! The only thing I've found is a few Nissan Juke's which I'm not adverse to but fancy a different make if I can. -
Toyota Avensis Diesel 2015 - Toyota Avensis Engine Failure 22 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Unfortunately it is my misses car and she just bought ten month ago and still have to pay for it as she took it on finance. Car was bought last October and oil level was not checked since than. The guarantee has past as it is more than 5 years. My misses did 6.5 K miles since she bought it. I would appreciate any advise on this matter as at the moment it looks hopeless. -
