  • Driving down risk in the community. 23 Jun 2005 (Forum)
These vehicles are normally driven very well. However the best bit is that written in large white letters on the rear bumper were the words "Driving down risk in the community"! Pity he doesn't adopt the same approach to his driving. -- \"Nothing less than 8 cylinders will do\"
  • Driving - Naples + Sorrento area 22 May 2004 (Forum)
If you hire a car you aren't going to get the benefit of viewing the scenery, if you are driving, and I don't rate your chances of not paying the XS on your CDW, on a week's hire. The trains, ferries and local buses provide a very keenly priced and relaxing alternative to self-drive.
  • Am I Victor Meldrew? 2 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My neighbour has recently started parking about 6 inches to a foot on my drive which is connected to his drive. This is so he has enough room to park his other car on his drive without having to move the first out of the way. I can still get both of my cars on my drive but have to park them closer together than I would like to, making it a bit more difficult to fully open the doors.
  • Learning to drive in other countries 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I just remembered a conversation with relatives from NZ at the weekend. Their 16 yo is learning to drive (or is he 15? Can't remember). Anywya, he can legally have passed his test and be driving at 16. However, there were some rules for the first year after the test which I thought were an excellent idea: No passengers (though what's the use in paying all that miney for lessons if they can't repay you by taking you down the pub???)
  • Test Drives 11 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I set off up the M11 and was initailly impressed - quiet and smooth - but after about an hour I started to get back ache, after 90 minutes I was so uncomfortable I had to stop. For this reason I'm very keen to get a decent 2 hour test drive before commiting myself, but both Ford and VW are only willing to offer me a glorified spin round the block. Has anyone got any advice about how to secure a longer test drive, or failing that, any views on which of the 2 cars is more comfortable for long drives.
  • Buying a left hand drive car over here to drive ov 28 Mar 2001 (Forum)
We are about to move to France and I will be looking to buy a couple of local cars to replace our UK ones. However, it occured to me that it might be worthwhile to buy a used left-hand drive car in the UK as I understand they tend to be much cheaper. We could then import them into France. I have a feeling there must be thousands of people who, moving from the continent, end up having to sell their cars cheaply over here.
  • DVLA disqualification error 30 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi, during the 90s i built up a enormous driving record, ranging from no insurance to driving whilst disqualified (no drink driving though), i just drove cars with no regard for the law. In 1998 i ended up with a driving ban of 15 years disqualification.
  • Jaguar XF - BMW 5 series 2011 Manual or Jaguar XF 2011 20 Aug 2016 (Forum)
So the question is more around manual vs automatic, I love driving and I go on driving trips to Switzerland/France/Spain/Scotland from London, so the question is will I love automatic as I get used to it or if driving pleasure is the priority, is manual the one to go for ?
  • .....what small car for £5K'ish 27 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I bet this has'nt been asked before! Were combining our two old cars to one newer one. I drive (at weekends now due to company car) a 2001 MG ZT 190 LPG and the Mrs drives a Focus 2001 1.6 Zetec. I love my MG, cheap to run but sits on drive all all week now and somone really needs to get better use out of it.
  • Do all cars drive the same these days?? 4 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I've had 2 vectra's (the first one was so bad, I thought there was something wrong with it, hence the 2nd Vectra - which was even worse), a new shape Mondeo, a Volvo S40 and a BMW 3 series compact. In my opinion, all of these have been dreadful to drive compared to the cars I used to drive in the 90's, and maybe even the 80's. Can anyone recommend a medium size car that has a supple suspension and a civilised, smooth drive? Preferably not French, and pref not a Ford or Vauxhall and 3k - 4k to spend.
  • Suzuki Splash - drive shaft seal leak 10 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Hi (not a fiesta radio code thread, woop) Took my wife's splash for the annual service and was advised rear shock absorber requires replacement but also that the o/s drive shaft seal is leaking and requires repair My wife has a friend with a similar agila and hers had to have a replacement gear box. Wondering if gear box problems are common on the splash and most importantly what the consequences of the drive shaft seal leaking might be, ie, what else should I check with this in mind?

  • Best way to drive a car with a failing thermostat 14 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hi this is going to sound like a weird question but my bmw 330cd should run at 90 degs but the temp is only getting up to 65. I share a lift with 3 people 70 miles and sods law it's my turn to drive this week. so I can't do it untill the weekend. the question is if I drive in 5th it will go up to 70 degs. but if i put it into 6th it will go down to 60ish.but obvouisly the revs drop in 6th gear.
  • Driving in Europe without Photo Card License 30 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I am driving to Europe from the UK this weekend and have the problem that my replacement driving license hasn't turned up yet! Unfortunately I hear many stories about on the spot fines for drivers without their license but really can't cancel my travel plans.

  • Hard ride German cars - Long distance driving & prostate problems 24 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I managed to get a urinary infection as a direct result of too much high speed high-adrenaline driving. The prostate is slowly recovering its old shape but its made me acutely aware of my suspension & I now drive fewer miles. I have a foam cushion {http://www.icnsales.com/chair-cushions/} which is great & am thinking about softening the suspension with new springs & shocks.
  • any - Traffic / Motoring offences 28 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Does this apply to serious crimes such as Drink-Driving or driving without insurance? Is a traffic offence just when one breaks the rules of the road, eg a speeding ticket or a driving in a bus lane...? Can anybody clear this up a little?
  • Peugeot 406 Petrol - Driving without rear silencer 6 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I was advised by the rescue service that they could remove the hanging silencer and then it would be safe to drive home. Bearing in mind that the remaining exhaust system would be without one of its supports and the possible intake of exhaust gases into the car, would it be OK to drive home?  Could any damage be caused to the engine?
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 crd - Drive train vibration 21 Jul 2010 (Forum)
This 2005 car has been great since the new steering rack last year (see previous) now I have a curious intermittent drive train vibration which only occurs when towing a two hourse trailer up a medium hill at about 50 to 60. Very occasionaly it occurs on the flat at about 70 when not towing. It feels like drive shaft/ gearbox but could be engine related.
  • Cornering Lights - have they improved your drive? 23 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The car will go round a corner or roundabout and one fog will come on and then slowly extinguish again. What's that all about? When would you ever drive in such a way that one fog light lighting would make a difference? It will make no difference through town streets that have streetlights and if you are driving country lanes so fast at night then, sorry, that fog light illuminating won't avert an accident!
