Lexus IS220D - May I have your views please 29 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Mot Til July 21 but no service history apart from a string of passes at MOT time. Does this engine have a cam chain ? And will it be free of the DPF? And important to me what’s the ride like on the 45 profile tyres ? Apart from new pads front and back don’t think much has been done for four years apart from the MOT. Most grateful for your views but would need to dispense with my beloved 2003 Audi A4 1.9 Tdi which has no aircon but a full mot , which is worthless. -
Toyota Innova - Diesels in the Philippines 31 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Bearing in mind there are no motorways where they live, although it’ll probably have a couple of 60Km round trips every week, are they likely to have DPF problems. I believe all new cars there now conform to Euro 4. I have posted this question on “The largest motoring forum in the Philippines” but gassing on forums doesn’t seem to be much of a thing over there. -
Ford Mondeo Estate 2015~2016 - Ford Turbo Petrol or Diesel 22 May 2019 (Forum)
There is a 50/50 split between just me and me and SWMBO in the car so it is not full of passengers, but we do have long runs on holiday with luggage and the dog. DPF aside, are there any pros or cons for either engine? I am not familiar with Fords on the whole. The petrol engine looks a lot more torquey than the Vauxhall 1.8L -
Any - Comfortable Car 26 Apr 2019 (Forum)
They include the Citroen GS, Range Rover 2001, 2CV etc. But I am looking for a comfortable diesel car with no DPF .. After driving my partners Peugeot 207SW with 165 tyres i realised how uncomfortable my Audi A4 is and I long for a car which can take all the crashing and banging which we experience on todays British roads. -
Astra Twintop 1.9 - Astra 1.9 tdci engine fault 16 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Good morning, I noticed that there was a blow of white smoke coming from the exhaust yesterday and so; thinking it was the DPF I went into 3rd and rode the car for half a mile at 3500 rpm. I let the throttle go but the engine speed went up to maximum, I pulled over and turned the ignition key to off but the engine kept running at maximum , still blowing out white smoke for about 5 mins. the coolant was blown out but there were no signs of oil in the water or vice versa. -
Audi A3 - 2008 Audi A3 1.9TDIE Engine 20 Jul 2018 (Forum)
This same engine seems to have been modified to a 1.9TDIE around 2008 and has a lower road tax then the older generation I assume this is because it's had a DPF fitted? My question is, what is the differend between the 1.9TDIE and the original 1.9 TDI? And i the newer 1.9 TDIE engine as reliable as the older model ? Or is it one to be avoided and best to stick with the tried and trusted original 1.9 TDI? -
Ford fiesta 1.4 TDCI - Egr valve block / delete 1 Mar 2018 (Forum)
So im looking to find out what is the consiquence of blocking off the egr or deleting it from the system. Ive heard of vw owners deleting it and the dpf when remapping the car for power increase, im not looking for power im just looking for an easy and inexpensive fix. If anyone else has had the problem of egr sticking could you please share your experience. -
passat 05/pd130 or mondeo mk4 58 tdci 140 ? 7 May 2017 (Forum)
Hello All, I'm on the lookout for used diesel car, and the 2 above are front runners, I actually prefer an 05/pd130 passat, 5speed, rather than a 6speed Mondeo/140/DPF. But advertised locally is a mondeo zetec 58reg/140/42kmiles, good cond, nice drive. A low mileage passat is very hard to find, but I'm prepared to wait and keep searching. And with the greatest respect to all, I dont want to get into the petrol/diesel argument. -
SEAT Leon - Looking for a new car - advice? 14 Apr 2017 (Forum)
I do alot of city driving but I occasionally make long journeys down to Cornwall. After all the recent u-turns about diesel cars and the stories I've heard about DPF's I've thought about going for petrol. I've had a look around and the SEAT Leon 1.2 TSI seems a decent car. Anyone got any advice on this car or any others? Thanks. -
Citroen c4 - Citroen c4 hdi starts for 4 seconds idles and cuts 10 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Had a can belt change done by a friend of mine (trusted and a good guy) but after what seems the normal bleeding issue it will start perfectly but will idle for 4 seconds then stop won't Rev the crank sensor has been replaced we have Han it with out the dpf and checked the egr valve all ok. We are at a loss it sounds perfect but just won't stay running. P1351 code checked relay and fuse for heater plugs all ok and fuel delivery pressure is also ok. -
Ford Focus TDCI 1.6 2006 - Powertrain light on. No codes! 1 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Hi peeps. I had the dpf removed, engine remapped and turbo replaced (with uprated bits and bobs) all about 18 months ago. Now, the powertrain light comes on and the car goes into limp mode but here's the thing. Even the local Ford dealership equipment won't show up any codes. -
Any - Deadly diesel ! 8 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I appreciate that no car with an IC engine is emission free, its a price we have to pay for our necessary mobility. I did however think that a modern diesel fitted with the sometimes unpopular DPF, was the best that tecnology could provide, but now I am apparantly still responsible for spreading nasty Nox and such around the city stunting kids brains etc. Is this just a nanny state flavour of the month thing, or should we all be worried ?. -
Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 estate buying advice 18 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Ive been looking to upgrade my Old 306 estate and originally was looking at an a4 avant but got put off by the oil pump failures on the 2.0 td Ive now turned my attention to a mazda 6 estate. When im researching this car there are a lot of reports about the dpf clogging up and dumping loads of fuel to clear it I just wondered if these are a good reliable car? Also is servicing costs going to be expensive? I generally do a basic service myself as well as exhausts, brakes etc. -
For focus titanium 1.6 tdci - Help !! 16 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi , I was wondering if anyone could offer a little advice .. The problem I have is that after having a new dpf fitted , the turbo has died as well and have decided that enough is enough and not to keep chucking money at it . I'm not best versed in motoring matters and wondered if anyone could suggest ways to claw a bit of money back off it even though it's dead ?.. -
Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 SL 2.2D 185 130K miles - Go for it? 24 May 2013 (Forum)
The interior seems to be in pretty good condition and the exterior as well. I am aware that this is a good engine (hopefully without the epic DPF failures as the previous owner drove for a loooong time, so I assumed all the soot is cleaned up,lol). The other car that I have in mind is a 2005 BMW 525D SE 100K miles, they are both the same price, I would like to know your opinion. -
Ford Focus - 90 bhp or 110 bhp 1.6 TDCi ? 15 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Hi there, I have narrowed my car search down to a Focus 1.6 TDCi hatch or estate of around the 2005/early 2006 vintage. My question is whether to go for a 90 bhp model or a 110 bhp one (one without the DPF if I can). Is the 110 bhp model a step increase in drivability over the 90 bhp or is there not much in it? The car will be used as a general family second car doing shortish runs (8 to 20 miles) with the odd longer run (200 miles). -
Ford Focus TDCi 1.6L 2006 - Knocking/tapping and misfire under load. 3 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Hi all My Focus developed a misfre under load (worst at 2500rpm in 4th) and within days a tapping at idle . I've done a DPF regeneration during that time with Forte fluid (powertrain and engine lights came on) but the misfire was there before just not as noticable along with intermittend rough idling and a flat spot most noticable when changing up from 2nd to 3rd. -
16 motorway mile commute on a modern diesel 8 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I was wondering if a 16 mile each way commute would be a problem for the DPFs in modern diesels? My commute is roughly 15 motorway miles and 1 on the access roads so about 20 minutes door to door. I've always bought petrols for myself and diesels for my parter (her commute is much further) but having done the maths on her cars vs mine and test driven her's on my commute to see the real world MPG the weekly savings on a diesel would be considerable. -
CRV etc - CRV or not CRV 9 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Am I right in thinking diesel is probly not the way forward for low mileages (i've got 55k in 8years on the RAV4) because of DMF probs (which I've had with RAV4 :<(() and DPF on newer diesels? So anything else to consider a contender - IX35? Sonata? others? Any (helpful) comments, links, pointers gratefully received Thanks in advance JimB -
