  • Rear window heater damaged on new car 6 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I assume that when they were preparing the car they ripped off the old VW dealer sticker and replaced it with their own sticker, damaging the heater element in the process. I know there used to be a sticker in this position because it left an imprint on the screen which is clearly visible when the screen is misty.
  • Golf brake failure 27 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The car is not 3 years old with 52K miles on the clock so it will go back to the dealers and I hope it will be fixed under warranty. Any backroomers with experience of brake failure on Golfs or other VWs?
  • Mazda 2 - Used car advice, been standing 30 Sep 2022 (Forum)
This has been a very slight (carpark) bump and the bumper has not even been cracked. There is no accident damage and the car is 100% HPI and Data checked clear and you are more than welcome to carry out your own Hpi and Data checks  for your own peace of mind.   Overall in my opinion this is a good genuine little car in very good condition for a 9 year old car that's done nearly 95000 miles.
  • Peugeot 2008 - - the saga of the u/s locking bolt 4 Nov 2022 (Forum)
Was not offered (and did not consume) coffee by any of the many staff who used it.  Asked for progress report at 9.25.  'Car still in workshop - we'll take you round there'.   Asked to see the offending bolt, now completely knackered as they'd had to weld an old socket or somesuch onto it to get a grip.  JF to mechanic..'
  • Which car to choose....... 12 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Cons: Will it be rusting in another 5 years? long back doors in car parks, possibly higher insurance, staid looks and possibly equally staid handling, harder to keep clean because of dark colour and complex alloys, resale prospects of a 140K 10 year old car. Expensive to repair if it goes wrong, and there?
  • VW Golf Mk8 - CarPlay: Golf mk8 and iPhone 7 27 Apr 2025 (Forum)
Hello guys, first post here. We just bought a 2hnd 2021 VW Golf, Gill's first car in a decade. It has Apple CarPlay, which neither of us has used before. Gill has a well-used iPhone 7 on iOS 15.1. She wants to use CarPlay to play music from her phone, but so far no joy. The car and the phone see each other via wi-fi but CarPlay doesn't recognize the iPhone as a device it can access.
  • MG HS 1.5 Turbo Petrol - Wrong engine oil used during service. 15 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I apologise in advance as this may seem a very simple question to most. I've just had my 2 year old MG HS car serviced at an MG dealership and on looking at the garage's invoice notice that the engine oil they used is 5/30W. The handbook states that the oil should have been 0W/20. I was surprised that an oil of a different specification was used by a main dealer and am concerned that it may adversely affect the car.
  • Mercedes A Class - What should I do? 15 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Feel very stupid but think I’ve bought a wrong’un! Even though the advert didn’t mention service history, I purchased a 4 year old very low mileage Mercedes car (formerly a fleet lease car) from a dealer at end of November who claimed that the service records were online but had to wait til I got V5 to prove ownership before requesting details from manufacturer...... but surprise surprise they claim there is nothing on their database.
  • Ford B-MAX - Ford B-Max - Ecoboost engine issue 27 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Hello.  Recently purchased this 6 yrs old, 59,000m car.  Due to the well-known problem with some Ecoboost engines failing due to coolant system component flaw (which Ford will compensate for if occurs), I asked Ford for a free inspection of the coolant system on the ground that if it fails it will likely cost them much more than the cost of the inspection to rectify (in some cases a new engine).
  • MG ZR 1.4 ‘04 - Emissions? 11 Feb 2019 (Forum)
It was quite a cheap exhaust I had put on - could an upgrade to a better one fix the issue? I know it’s an old car, and it has done a fair few miles, but I really like it and it’s so incredibly reliable I’d hate to have to scrap it because of something like this. Many thanks.
  • Prius mpg on motorways 19 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Cruising between 56 and 70 mph (and very rarely exceeding 70), I could get 65 to 70 mpg out of previous diesel cars without having to concentrate. I'm slightly disappointed to find that driving in an even more utterly saintly manner, I'm struggling to crack 60 mpg in my current 1 litre non-turbo petrol car (Sirion).
  • Volkswagen Golf - Golf 2.0 TDI screeching sound - belt/pully wheels? 30 May 2017 (Forum)
I turned the engine off and restarted and the idle revs were back to normal. I am going to park it up and use my daughters car. It sounds like it's coming from the alternator area. Car starts ok and holds a charge. Any ideas appreciated. It's an old MK5 2.0 GT TDI. Below is a vid of the noise, but it has sounded worse!
  • Ford Focus - EXTENDED WARRANTY 20 Mar 2016 (Forum)
This is an unsual situation (I think!). Just over a year ago I bought a Ford Focus from Motorpoint in Newport. The car was only 6mths old and still had over 2 years of the manufacture`s warranty to run. The extended warranty was not to kick in until 2017 (Sept). Unfortunately I was involved in an accident last week and the insurance company have told me that the car is a write-off.
  • Best Used 5-seat MPV? 17 Oct 2015 (Forum)
So is the abillity to carry large bulky things occasionally --- hence MPV (or possibly estate). Probably looking for something two/three years old with less than 30,000 miles. We don't need 4-wd but we do like a quieter car -- long motorway journeys sometimes to visit family. We typically do 10,000 miles a year.
  • x type 2005 2 litre sports diesel - Fix or Sell xtype 2005. New to forum 27 Jul 2015 (Forum)
The car has done 139K miles. Do I repair or sell? Any advice greatly welcome.
  • BMW 3 Series Compact - Battery conditioner/Charger 10 Feb 2015 (Forum)
The original battery lasted eleven years including the winters of 2010. I got a new Varta battery just under a year ago and not having used the car for a few days it failed to start in near freezing temperature. Additionally the car no longer does a high mileage probably 30 to 40 a week. I have "old fashioned" battery chargers for a short charge and a couple of hours got it going.
  • SEAT Toledo - Leaky rear doors on nearly new car 23 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I have a nearly new (11 month old) SEAT Toledo. One of the rear doors fills up with water whenever it rains - large amounts of it sloshing around....
  • Worst diesel you have owned? 18 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I have just sold the worst diesel car I have owned. The main reasons were the performance and fuel economy. It was a 3 year old Renault Scenic 1.9DCI owned from new and it couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. It had 105 hp (some of those horses must have been dead) and managed low 40s on a run and about 35-37mpg tootling around.
  • 2009 Nissan Micra 1.2 - Heater Matrix 18 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Do you think a car under 4 years old and less than 35,000 miles should require a Heater Matrix? I have owned my Nissan Micra 1.2 n-tec with FSH from new but it has just needed a new Heater Matrix with £800 bill and no goodwill from Nissan as my garage (the original supplier of the car and Nissan dealer for over 20 years is no longer franchised).
  • Nissan X Trail 2003 - Broken Cam Chain 2 weeks after purchase 9 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, If anyone can advise what my consumer rights I have it would be much appreciated. Basically purchased a Nissan X Trail from a dealer, the car is 10 years old.  Came with 3 month warranty but only up to a value of £1000. Literally 2 weeks to the day of picking up the car the cam chain broke whilst on the A34.  Obviously major damage and having spoken to the garage today very likely to need new engine.
