  • Mazda 6 - engine rebuild 19 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Hi,  Mazda 6 2.0D year 2008 The DPF light came on and there was a loud bang - lots of smoke from the back. Limped it to a dealer (not customer friendly) who said engine compressions down to about half what they should be - suspected pistons could be bent and recommended a new engine.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCI - slight judder. 22 Sep 2012 (Forum)
It sometimes gomes back again during the same conditions. The time elapsed during all this is typically 5-10 minutes. Is this the DPF regenerating? At the moment I don't do much mileage - am averaging 500 miles a month on the motorway only, driving once a week.   Does my car have a DMF? I was led to believe it does not.
  • Honda or Volvo Diesel? 9 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy a diesel car and have narrowed the search down to the Honda Accord I-CDti Sport or Volvo S60 D5 SE(Euro III engine, so no DPF).  I've found one of each, test driven them but still can't really decide! Both are 05 cars, the Honda(05 reg) is on 54000 miles and the Volvo (54 reg) is on 55000.  They are also very closely priced.
  • Mazda - @ rtj70 -- your Mazda 6 and its regeneration ... 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Reason I ask is, just had a "stutter" on my new Mondeo, as if I had dipped the clutch sharply then re-engaged it, while at medium rpm on a dual carriageway, the engine note was also different and a bit more dieselly / "boomier" for a short time afterwards. It was all fine and as normal on the journey home. I'm wondering if the ECU ordered a DPF regeneration, and the stutter / new exhaust note was due to the regen happening.
  • 207SW diesel 2008 - Changed habits 12 Sep 2022 (Forum)
Indications: Slow response to accelerator, especially in second gear; abnormal instantaneous consumption – typically 80mpg instead of 65 on level M'way Engine starts and apparently runs normally; only known possible triggers: 20 litres diesel added recently, plus the dregs of a bottle of injector cleaner. Car has no DPF, done 85K miles. Possible explanations: Turbo? Faulty injector? Dirty diesel? Electronic problem ? Any suggestions?  I intend to monitor progress until needing more fuel, when I shall add some V-power, which usually has a detectable effect on running.
  • All modern cars - DAB Radios and No CD players 11 Feb 2020 (Forum)
The loss of a multi change CD player is also sadly missed. Electric handbrakes come next on my list of pet hates along with DPF shananagin s now on petrol as well as diesel cars. Finally can we go back to dipswitches on the floor and indicator arms on the right hand side of the steering wheel ! PS I am sadly missing my Sony Trinitron TV with a square scree that I have recently updated
  • 2009 1.9 Diesel - Citroen dispatch misfiring problems 29 Oct 2019 (Forum)
The engine then starts and will go merry on it's way for a period of time. At a loss to know what's going on now. Garage has said car does not have a dpf and various bits have been changed including egr. Key is not original. Help!
  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi 2007 - 2007 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi 90bhp loss of power 7 Mar 2017 (Forum)
It drives around town fine but when on the dual carriage way seems to lack power e.g. On a hill may need to drop to 4th or 3rd to maintain 60mph. This car wasn't fitted with a DPF and you can hear the turbo working. No error codes are found on computer. Any advice where to start looking? It has just had full service including cam and water pump which didn't resolve this.
  • Ford Mondeo 1.8 Titanium - Mondeo 1.8 Titanium - general query 16 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Are there any other issues that I need to be aware of that people have had – DPF’s dual massflywheels etc etc   Many thanks in advance   Alastair
  • Mazda 3 185bhp 2.2 diesel - Fuel Consumption 4 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I'm aware of the affects of a cold engine, or start-stop traffic, but compensating for these factors the fuel consumption still seems extremely erratic. I always drive sedately (1000 rpm) but occasionally drive on higher revs to clear the dpf. The car has only done 18000 miles anyway. Recently I've noticed the car pulling even with my foot off the accelerator pedal.
  • VW Polo Bluemotion - diesel particulatefilter cleaner 2 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Hi All, when I bought my VW Polo Bluemotion I did frequent short tips for the first few weeks and did get the DPF light several times. I have since gone on to a long commute and it's all fine now, but I may at some point move closer and am a bit worried that say 30 min trips (mainly A roads) wouldn't be enough.
  • Audi A3 Sportback - audi a3 sportback replacement 12 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I am wodering about a change to a similar size of car. If I went for the 1.8 petrol I would avoid the DPF issues I read about, but at the cost of mpg. I like the look of the Hyundai i30, and of the ix35. But the petrol engines look uninspiriing and I keep hearing about problems with diesels. So I am confused.
  • Renault Megane III 1.9dci - Access to oil filter 21 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Can anyone advise me onthe best way to remove the filter on the F9Q engine (with DPF) on my 2010 Megane?  I can see it clearly from the top but it sem burrried under lots of bits!  Also is it safe to use an oil extractor on this engine - when I push the dipstick in I feel some resistance after a few cm, does this mean a sump plug only job?

  • Biggest regression on manufacturers' model change? 26 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I'm thinking along the lines of particular vehicle ranges rather than general technological developments such as DMFs, DPFs or catalytic converters. Examples mentioned in Avant's post include: BMC 1100 to Allegro (which should have been a British Golf with a hatchback) Alfasud to Alfa 33 Peugeot 205 to 206 and 306 to 307 Saab 900 (pre-GM) to 9-3
  • Silly speed limit increments 3 May 2009 (Forum)
Stay in second and use almost as much fuel as a '68 Charger or chug along in third and budget for a new DPF every few weeks? Why not 25mph? While we're at it, why not have 35mph, 45mph and 55mph (35 being a sensible urban speed that doesn't make you feel like you're standing still) and 55 instead of 50 will be better for fuel economy and the environment.
  • My question to an MP regarding Bio-diesel - Reply! 4 Feb 2011 (Forum)
They believe that the dilution of this oil by unburnt diesel fuel causes a deterioration in its lubrication qualities, leading to a significant possibility of excessive engine wear and premature failure. They are also concerned because the recall campaign to repair the problem with the DPF has been conducted during the summer months, when regeneration is less problematical. They tell me that there is a considerable body of opinion to the effect that during winter months the DPF regeneration will not be completed correctly, leaving affected car owners with filters that become full and blocked, requiring a chargeable visit to the dealer to have the problem rectified.
  • Vauxhall Astra 2.0 CDTi Diesel (2013) - Vauxhall Astra - acrid smell inside car 14 Feb 2025 (Forum)
I have a diesel Vauxhall Astra that I've had on-off problems with for a couple of years, mostly DPF related. I've done quite a bit to remedy this including having it taken off and cleaned out and having all the fuel injectors replaced for new ones. This has helped somewhat but the car has always had a tendency to smoke a bit out the back end and also smell.
