  • Next fill of biodiesel 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Hi HF. My, you were burning the midnight oil last night! To respond to your post, TD stands for turbo-diesel. The fact that yours is a D rather than a TD just means that your diesel engine isn't turbocharged. In simple terms, turbocharging means that the exhaust gases from burning the fuel are used to make the engine go faster.
  • diesels - thoughts on this article 9 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I'm looking into getting a newer car and had been looking forward to going back to diesels ( having owned older diesels , thought a modern diesel might be nice ) but there seems to be a general theory that modern diesels might not be so reliable as they once where, and that any savings in  tax and fuel economy are outweighed by the costs of repair.

  • Subaru Forester - Fuel Additives 7 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I have recently bought a subaru forester diesel and upon reading the manual it states that no fuel additives are to be used at all. I just wondered if there is a reason for this as my previous car was a nissan xtrail and I used to add millers eco to the fuel, I did not add this for extra power it was for keeping fuel system clean which at mot time mechanic commented that  emmisions were extremely low and dpf light hardly ever came on whilst using this.
  • Ford StreetKA - Fuel Consumption 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hello everyone I recently bought a 05 StreetKA. Love the car but the fuel consumption is terrifying! I only manage 240 miles on a full tank. I travel 60 miles a day of which 40 is motorway. I'm driving at 60 and trying REALLY hard to conserve fuel! Just part-exed a Fiat Grande Punto diesel for the StreetKA - mad I know- but didn't expect it to use as much fuel as this!!

  • Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - 08 2.0 Fuel overflows at first automatic shut off 4 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I refuel the fuel tank until the first automatic shut off of the filling station nozzle and leave it at that, I don't try putting more fuel in. I then notice there is diesel fuel coming out of the fuel overflow pipe underneath the rear of the car, about 0.5 litre or so which leaves a right mess on the forecourt floor to be cleared up, not to mention the wasted fuel.
  • a simple question that needs an answer.. 17 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Why is diesel called derv? what does it mean? Reason?: all the garages i've seen without exception over last few days that have run out of diesel fuel, the notice says 'no derv'.
  • Hybrid cars 19 Feb 2005 (Forum)
with all these hybrid cars coming out, can someone explain why they are petrol/electric rather than diesel/electric? it seems that the petrol/electric doesn't give any better return in fuel economy than a diesel engine in the first place.
  • What does diesel do to tarmac? 10 Nov 2011 (Forum)
A3(M) was closed yesterday afternoon/evening due to a broken down lorry and fuel spillage and at midnight the workman were out resurfacing the road. So, what does diesel do to a road surface requiring it to be relaid? Does it dissolve it? Is it absorbed into the surface with the risk of it floating to the surface when it rains?
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate - Petrol in a diesel engine- is it possible to tell? 31 May 2011 (Forum)
Is it possible to tell if a previous owner of a car has mistakenly refuelled a car (in this case a Mercedes) with petrol instead of diesel? If they have, are there any symptoms in the car's behaviour that might show eg reduced fuel consumption? Appreciate your thoughts
