  Advice needed please. The coolant temp gauge on my Audi A4 has started to return to the minimum (60) setting for a few minutes and then returning to the usual mid setting (90). Then a few mins klater will repeat this. No apparent reason, I\'m usually cruising at 65-70.

  I drove on for another year topping it up - Approx a litre or so over the year. Left it to independent garage for 2nd service and got them to check coolant. They found nothing but I fear they are incompetent if not a little crooked as you'll see. Drove the car for another few months before I noticed creamy light brown mayo under oil filler cap and the coolant tank empty.

  I have found a coolant leak on my Mk3 Golf Cabriolet 1.8. I had topped up the coolant last weekend after the warning light came on and when it relit on Wednesday after refilling Sunday I was starting to think coolant was leaking into the head gasket.

  Drove for three weeks no problem. Drove to work fine, on way back on comes red light and again no coolant, this time the hose at the top of the radiator has come away. It suggests to me that too much pressure is getting into the coolant system. Sent it back to the garage who traced it back to a defective pressure cap on the tank.

  Hello, I've had a problem with a blown out coolant hose and now that I've replaced it the radiator fan doesn't turn on. Yesterday the radiator fan turned on as soon as I turned the car on. The coolant temp today was at 108 highest and no fan turned on.

  The temperature/coolant level warning light is permanently illuminated on the dash of My VW, even when starting from cold. The coolant levels are ok and all the cooling electrical systems, fan and themoswitches are working correctly.

  Hoping someone could give me some advice before I take my car to the garage (don't want my eyes taking out). i drove my Fiesta about 5 miles last night before parking it up for a couple of hours. When I returned to my car there was a puddle of water under the car where all of the coolant had emptied. I topped it up and watched for any leaking and non could be seen so I drove home. I checked the car again after stopping and the coolant was dripping and the reserve tank was about half full however I still can't see where its leaking from.

  I've had some problems with the tappets closing on this engine, and also coolant loss. Replaced heater valve which was leaking 3 years ago. Found another leak on a hose joint 4 weeks ago which I fixed. However, the coolant is milky white indicating oil in the water. Oil level is down very slightly.

  Does anyone think that the change in oil type was a contributory factor or just coincidence ? And now the coolant question. The hose from the top of the radiator to the expansion tank is looking a bit worn so I was thinking of replacing it at the weekend - would I have to drain the whole cooling system ? If so I might leave it as I haven't really got anywhere to work on the car & the coolant was renewed at the time of the oil cooler repair so it's not like it could do with changing.

  In the morning i came back and noticed it was low again i topped it up and i could see as i put water in the coolant tank: 1. Water dripping near the wheel looks directly under(ish) the coolant tank 2. Water dripping from the front slightly not by the gripp a bit more inwards the engine. Obviously i saw it dripping onto some oily parts but i couldnt see exact cause.

  My scanner is on the blink so cannot reproduce the whole A4 sheet which details the simple test procedure for checking the coolant for an electrical charge but basically with a voltmeter on the range 0 -12v. with sensitivity of at least one-tenth of a volt with one test lead to battery ground and the other in the coolant (not touching any metal or the filler neck) Any voltage reading will indicate the presence of current through the coolant.
