  :) Actually the serious question is that I have numerous unopened bottles of Castrol TQF transmission fluid (don't ask!) on which the label states that it is suitable for some power steering systems. As the Volvo is unlikely to last for more than another 10 years it is obviously uneconomic to purchase a whole new container of the correct stuff, does anyone know if the TQF is compatible with the Volvo rack.

  an oil change is well overdue on my T5 that i am about to sell. Volvo will do the oil change when it goes in for a service in 3 weeks but i need to go down to norfolk a few times, so i'd like new oil in, you know how it is. anyway, i have purchased an oil filter but now need the oil - 5w-40 fully synthetic.

  I read an interesting notice in the local tyre depot ,issued by Pirelli,warning of the danger of fitting mis matched tyre sizes on the same axle of volvo cars. Basically it stated that not only should each tyre be the same size, manufacturer and tread pattern but also that the tread depth of each tyre should be within 2mm of each other.Therefore the rolling circumference of each wheel would be the same.Failure to adhere to this could lead to transmission failure.

  This would be a budget taxi for the growing brood, but I still enjoy driving and have a special love of Volvos, having lived in Sweden. My thoughts are to look for: Classic 2.4 petrol, 170bhp, automatic, maybe with the 7 seat option, with as much fsh and as low mileage as I can find, then to keep it going ... forever!

  The last couple of mornings, the Volvo has exhibited behaviour that is a mite concerning. Yesterday morning, it fired up instantly as normal, but wasn't running on a full compliment of 5 cylinders. A quick blip of the throttle cured it, and it's been fine ever since.

  I'm currently looking for a quick discrete and comfortable coupe. Until recently I had been looking at volvo C70s (T5 and 2.4T)s for sub£7K. However, recent internet investigations have highlighted the problem of the electronic throttle module on volvo petrol cars from week 20 of 1999 to 2002. The electronic throttle module costs around £650-700 to fix and recon units are problematic because of software issues.

  Got a magazine from Volvo this AM trumpeting the path they are taking with electric cars. They say battery technology is excellent now but don't quote ranges achieved by their vehicles. I sometimes drive from N Hants to N Yorks and wonder how an electric car could do this trip.

  just had new tensioner pulley and fan belt fitted to volvo s40 , 1999 . Within a few miles after collection ,i noticed a sloshing sound coming from around gearbox area. Looked underneath car as well as under bonnet . Coolant level and engine oil normal . Car is dry ,no spills etc .

  Recent change of local Volvo dealership prompted a call to say hello. When booking in my car details he spotted an alert linked to the engine no. relating to the swirling (!) arm. On inspection informed me that the arm had failed and needed replacing.

  I've never hit a pot hole that I thought could cause damage, yet my car has just failed its MoT because of a fractured offside rear coil spring! And I thought a Volvo was well made and more robust than most cars. I've never experienced such a failure in 45 years driving. Could it be poor manufacture? I will be recovering the part to examine it.
