  I drive 2 common rail diesels and wonder if I should keep up the practice of adding a "water treatment" at the end of each winter. I have noticed that the same company makes a dry fuel additive and a cleaner which claims to "demulsify" the fuel to allow the separator to work better.

  In the case of diesel, water also reduces the tendency to detonate and significantly lowers NOX emissions. California is making an 80% diesel 20% water fuel available at commercial filling stations.

  Is there a quick rule of thumb formula for working out when it becomes more economic to go for a specific type of car. (Thinking high mileage) Diesels cost more, but do they depreciate less? Some petrol engines are very fuel efficient and not that far away from diesels. Will dual fuel always be as cheap as it is now and how much do they depreciate compared to the other two?

  I was surprised to see that the standard fuel was shown as B10 whilst the Super grade was B7.  This led me to wonder whether there are likely to be any similar issues with this fuel on diesel vehicles  as there appear to be with the petrol version.

  Hi, I recently had to replace one of the leaking o-rings on the fuel regulator in the fuel filter housing. This has now got me thinking about how it works and what its purpose is, and a possible modification. For those with a 306 diesel, it can be seen on the bottom left corner of the fuel filter housing where the fuel inlet pipe comes in.

  I ran out of diesel doh. I am currently having problems priming the engine. the fuel is up to the fuel pump but I cannot get it through the pump up to the injectors. Do you just get the fuel to the pump and then keep turning over the engine or is there a way of getting it through the pump?

  The problem is not capacity but the Ford misfuel inhibitor which won't open except naturally for a fuel pump. I tried a funnel and flexible hose with the same result, prod and poke but the fuel filler neck has been designed to incorporate contact points that open an internal fuel flap only when the larger diesel pump nozzle applies pressure on them.

  My 98'S Primera Turbo diesel really smells of diesel vapour when idling. We've had the car checked, fuel return pipes replaced and washers on the fuel pump replaced, but it still stinks. Any ideas?

  Astra 1.7 diesel estate nonturbo. 1993 merit model. air bubbles visible in fuel pipe from filter to pump with engine running. fuel draws back to tank when engine switched off and left standing.able to start engine by sucking fuel through pipe and reconnecting to pump if enough fuel in pipe.

    Could the independent have caused the problem (not installed the fuel filter correctly and the pump having to work too hard to circulate the fuel?).  Could "replacement of fuel pump" be a lazy diagnosis?  Is the fuel pump failing a known fault in the Honda diesel system?
