  • 51 plate Ford Fiesta Zetec. - Replacing both rear brake pipe sections. 6 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It runs behind the fuel tank - between it bolting to the chassis frame and the underfloor of the car. Also it runs behind the fuel filter - which isn't a big deal really, but a pain to have to remove again.

hi i have a expert 2.0 hdi the mil light kept coming on n off. so i change the fuel filter (seamans) and once i dont that all hell broke lose. now my cab has many different codes. starts up everytime idle no problems drives well but once you are up to speed say in 4th or 5th take your foot of the power then try to reapply engine has cut out apply clutch cabs out cold have to take key out of ignition to get it restarted as if you dont will never start. also when in idle when you turn cab off it over runs 2/3secs but if u have small revs cuts out staight away. also if u hold the revs at 2000 after 5 secs will rev itself up as if you have applied the power hard. i have checked the wiring and found some dodgy wires replace no different changed the filter again nothing. changed the fuel rail sensor nope changed the fuel temperature sensor nope. peugeot say they think its sucking in air from somewhere???

  • Ford Ka - Ford Experts? KA 2003 OBD Code P0030 9 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Car Ka 2003, Dura Tec (Lambda sensor with grey plug)   Hello I have a Ford KA that was running fine, I thought I would change the plugs, oil and air filter as part of a service.   Its really puzzling me as the car was running fine before and never had any issues.   Since I have done this, right away on the second start up the engine check light has come on, I just though I may have knocked a multi plug or something, when removing the spark plugs or the air box.
  • Toyota Carina E - How to keep a 15yr old car running 21 Dec 2011 (Forum)
He owned it from a couple of years old and has been serviced every year / 3000 miles (not by dealer, just basic mobile service) This is my 2nd car, i also have a Ford KA (for day to day) Known issues: Original Cambelt (should have been changed at 60k, but non-interfearance)  Gearbox a bit clunky Drivers elec window doesnt work Temp gauge stuck in middle Boot struts dont open boot, very stiff Havent tried A/C, doubt it will work, but not an issue Economy light on dash doesnt work (probably bulb) Condensation on rear window (put dehumidifier on parcel shelf, not sure if it will work) Planned Maintenance : Air Filter Oil / Filter New spark plugs (not platinum this time) What else should i do? Cambelt? Can i not run it until it breaks? (car only used at weekends 200mi p/m) Gearbox oilchange? Is there any way to fix boot struts, i put wd40 then grease on, helped a bit Is there any benefit to giving it a tank of Shell v-power / fuel save and taking it up the rev range, i doubt my grandfather got above 3000rpm and i know the engine mode changes at 4400rpm?
  • 1997 Astra 2.0 16v Ecotec - Man transmission, sudden loss of power upshifting 21 May 2011 (Forum)

  • Peugeot 406 - Problems after changing timing belt 21 Jan 2011 (Forum)
They say that it is a "coincidence" that the parts snap out one after the other, right after I have changed the timing belt. The car was running perfectly before that (for 102.000 miles). I am only a woman and I don't know much about engines, but it doesn't seem right at all to me. I spoke with a technician from RAC (the guy who recovered my car after it stopped running all of a sudden), and he told me that they have probably fixed the timing belt not right and that it is most probably their fault.
  • Volvo 240/260 - car just dead, driving smooth, then lambda sond on 8 Nov 2010 (Forum)
[endif]--> I am driving Volvo 240 's for a long time but this one 1991 with lambda sond is giving me headaches. Basically, my car runs smoothly, sometimes problems with wet start but runs at the end. All electrics renewed: distributer cap, leads, plugs, bobine. But driving around sometimes the car just stops! Then the lambda sond turns on and after a couple of minutes being dead, we can start the car again: it runs smooth again but we never know when it will happen again ...... after one hour, a day, a couple of days or even a week?
  • Choosing a four wheel drive 4x4 - for school runs 28 May 2010 (Forum)
The drivers (both small peas in big drums) sneared at each other from their high cabs - not noticing my small van sandwiched between them. (Yes, I had caught the end of the school run again by setting off too early) Perceived prestige seemed to be the thing - as they both blasted off from the lights... I really felt for them, because both vehicles, though different makes, looked the same from behind.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 03 2.0hdi 90 go slow and surging 6 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I've had the codes read and got four: P 1351 post heating circuit P 1198 Fuel pressure regulator P 1113 Fuel pressure regulator P 0704 Clutch switch I went to a breakers to get a fuel pressure regulator and he gave me a screw in switch type thing which screws into the fuel rail. No avail. It was a Bosch, mines a siemens. I tried disconnecting it and it did run a bit better, but slow. And after a while it started surging up hills again. Probably not good to run it like that anyway! I suppose the next step would be to find a decent fuel pressure regulator to check if that IS the problem.
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 99 1.0 Starting problem, is now stalling problem 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I have kept suggesting that the problem may lie with the parts that were changed, since I did not have this running problem before these parts were changed. If the original non starting problem was a result of dead distributor, would changing the above parts then allowed the car to start, but now have running probs?
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 97 1.0 Engine flooded and rough idle 30 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi, My Micra 1.0 shape 1997 (R reg) has always started first time since I bought it 12 months ago. It's been a brilliant little runner, runs smooth and never stalled. The week before xmas, on the first day of snow it wouldn't start, wouldn't even turn over. Got the rescue out and he said the battery was dead and advised a new one. Had a new battery fitted and took it for a run to make sure it was fully charged but due to severe ice on the hill up to the main road I didn't take it out again for over a week, but turned the engine over a couple of tiimes.
  • Vauxhall Astra H Sporthatch (2005 - ) - 2006 1.6 Engine Cutting out 9 Dec 2009 (Forum)
When you attempt to restart the engine it struggles to restart and can take up to 30 seconds before it fires up again. This happens 2 or 3 times and then appears to run ok - this is all happening when running on petrol and not when the gas kicks in. 2) The other problem is related to power - I can get no more than 75-80mph out of it with my foot hard to the floor on the flat, any kind of incline and the power fulls away and if you are coming to a stop the engine again dies.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Coupe/Convertible (2000 - 2004) - 03 1.8 High emissions 3 Oct 2009 (Forum)
When on the way to Cornwall (a 5 hour drive) i pulled over and left the car running for 30 seconds when the eml came on. The error code is P0170 & P0420 Please correct me if i'm wrong but does the first code relate to the fuel mx and the second to the CAT?? So i'm now left with a rather large hole in my pocket and yet my car is still running rich.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 01 2.0 starting problem 306 2.0 HDI 27 Sep 2009 (Forum)
drove the car round the block with the battery still connected and it cut out although the 12v battery was still ok, not flat. Are the tank pumps running constantly when the car is running or intermitantly? have i flooded the engine by having the pump running canstantly?? does anyone know where the electrical feed to the pump comes from as i think that is my next point of call on finding this fault Thank you Gary Edit: Your duplicate post at the end of that old thread has been removed.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 1.8 Air con only runs warm. 25 Jun 2009 (Forum)
We bought our 54 plate 1.8 zetec 12 months ago and it was only recently we took a long motorway drive in the heat with our 2 small children and when we turned the A/C on we was only getting warm air. When we arrived at our destination,we called into a place that said they will charge us an arm and a leg to have a look and run tests which we declined because of the cost. Since then i have done some research and a couple of people on here suggested changing the shims in the A/C motor. I went out and bought the shims and began to follow the advice people had given which was to take off drivers wheel, remove lower plastic splash guard and the pulley in front of you will have a disc on the front which you can turn by hand freely so you need to wedge a screwdriver into it so as you can undo the nut and remove the disc to get to the shims.
  • What would you buy? 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Do I buy a new Ford or equivalent mainstream brand, do I buy a second hand prestige brand; or do I buy something old and interesting? I need reliability though. Running costs are to an extent irrelevant. The Outback gives me an average of 20.4mpg over 18,000 miles and I have no trouble affording to run it. What would you do?
