  • Ford Mondeo Estate 2002 2.0d - Tailgate Gremlin 19 Nov 2010 (Forum)
My Mondeo estate has started to do a strange thing. It releases the tailgate whenever you start the engine. So, once the engine is running you have to get out and shut the tailgate. Then it stays shut for that journey. There is a way around this which is to lock the doors from the inside before turning the key and this prevents the tailgate from opening so it's no big deal yet anyway.
  • smooth riding family car 4 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Hello, talking to my dad this weekend who is under the doctor with neck and back pain,        he is going to change his car due to the harsh ride of his audi which is not helping the      situation,he is not bothered about badge but wants a saloon or hatchback family car as      he does a lot of running around with grandchildren. the ride is the important bit for him. criteria>  petrol auto if possible not essential                   as soft a ride as possible                  enough power to do motorways                up to 5 years old/£10000 budget                                                                                          many thanks
  • 1998 Vauxhall Corsa 1.7 diesel - Poor Starting 10 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Turns over for several seconds without firing.  Have to try this 2 or 3 times before it goes.  Once running everything is normal.  OK until it has been left for several hours when the same thing happens.  Got a feeling air is getting into the system somehow as the heater plugs appear to be fine but cannot find anything obvious.
  • Peugeot 807 - Peugeot 807 diesel poor mpg 13 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I've recently bought a diesel Peugeot 807 because I couldn't afford to run my very juicy 2 litre petrol automatic Mondeo.  But guess what?!  The Peugeot is just as bad!!  I'm getting 24mpg, but apparantly I should be getting about 40!  I've had a look round the internet and a few things to check seem to be air filter, tyre pressures and timing, but would any of these really cause such a dramatically poor mpg?
  • Peugeot 306 - engine wont start! 6 Aug 2010 (Forum)
on way home the car stalled once and now we cant get it to start at all. we have checked the fuel line, theres plenty of fuel in the tank, but there is no power getting to the spark plugs or the fuel pump. she is turning over fine so its not the starter motor, she just wont kick in.  she was running perfectly fine before the plugs was changed.  any ideas? as this is frustrating the hell out of us and our mechanic lol x
  • Voltage detectors how to use them? 22 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I have bought one of those all in one, voltage + Metal + stud, detectors and was hoping it would allow me to drill more safely into walls etc. However when I run it across most parts of walls inside the house it seems to flash and beep intermitedly which is making it impossible to drill anywhere. Can anyone advise whether I am using this wrong? Should I only avoid drilling in areas where there is a continuous buzzing noise?
  • Ford Mondeo 53 plate 04 TDCI Zetec s - Car makes wooshing noise under acceleration 28 May 2010 (Forum)
Car has been running fine but since i accelerated very hard there has been what is best described as a whooshing sound coming from the engine, the car also seems a little sluggish compared to what it was when accelerating.
  • Renault Espace - Renault Espace 2004 - 2.2 Diesel Auto- Gear Ratios 21 May 2010 (Forum)
I recently used the manual gear selection and was amazed to find that there are five gears there.  Fourth and fifth gears appear to be the same though, both running the car at 2000 rpm. Is this normal?  My technical knowledge is very limited, but this seems a bit odd - I have had small Diesels in the past that drop to quite a low rpm. Any suggestions gratefully received, many thanks.

  • Ford Mondeo III - LPG Conversion- a good idea? 25 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I like the car but Labour are just taking too much money off me. I would like to reduce my running costs. Thinking of the LPG conversion which at £2000 is not cheap. I do approx 10k miles per year so the payback time is a bit long for me. I would appreciate a few useful comments from people who have done this.
  • Citroen berlingo Multispace/ Peugeot Partner - sloppy gear change 25 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I have a high mileage berlingo 1.9 Diesel which I have just bought. The car runs and drives fantasticaly except for a couple of things. 1, The gear change is very sloppy and it is easy to select the wrong gear. Is there a repair kit of bushes available? Or is this how they are?
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 05 1.2 Flat battery 15 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I know Ive been told to replace it but is there something else which causes a flat battery as opposed to the obvious battery replacement?. I have been having to use jump leads to start it recently, even after a good run the car wont start the following day. ould there be something which is like trickle draining it, or is it the battery which needs replacing. Kind regards Denn

  • Lefortovo Tunnel. Tighten your seatbelts 6 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I had the following video clip sent to me earlier this evening. This 3150 m long tunnel in Russia is the longest in-city tunnel of Europe. There is a river running over it and water leaks in at some points. When the temperature reaches -32 degrees like it did this winter, the road freezes and the result is the attached video taken during a single day with the tunnel cameras.
  • I was driving home on the A12 tonight, and...... 27 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The sky was a vivid pinky red, the trees and even the pylons looked pretty. I had The Temptations running on Spotify through my aux in socket, a large V shape flock of slow moving birds crossed from right to left under the contrails left by a high flying jet. All of a sudden, I had this moment of peace, blessed peace..all was right with the world.
  • Why do diesel cars need vacuum pumps? 11 Jan 2010 (Forum)
This might be better-placed in Tech Matters, but Motorprop has inspired me to ask a question I've often wondered about. As I understand it, a petrol engine develops a vacuum on the intake manifold when its running. This vacuum can be tapped and used for other purposes; for example, the braking system. (Have I got this correct? Feel free to correct me if not.) If thats right, why cant diesel engines do the same?

  • Citroen ZX (1992 - 1998) - 92 1.9 battery light stays on :-( 20 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My old runabout has stopped "running about"! 1992 Citroen ZX 1.9D will not start Battery? 8 hours charge and still will not even turn over. Absolutely silent when you turn the key Battery Light on dash stays on "all the time" even with no key in ignition Only thing I did just before this fault was replacing the alternator/power steering belt but it did start fine once afterwards?
  • Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 05 1.4 C3 brakes 1 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My son has a problem with the brakes on a Citroen C3. They were dragging and overheating on a run. He has replaced the front discs and pads. After adjusting the rear shoes the brakes were still dragging so he attempted to bleed the system by pressurising the master cylinder but could not get any fluid out of the bleed nipples, front or back.
