  • Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - (1998) - Alarm Fault? 28 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hello all, hopefully some one can help me out on here about this?... After a good old clean of my cars interior, I discovered a button on the side of my car hidden away by the drivers seat. I know it?s the PIR sensor button, but I pressed it, ever since my alarm has been going off at random times, and other times it sits there quietly not making a peep.
  • Car decisions for my niece 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I feel that the alternator was the cause of most of her woes and that is now fixed - there is no reason why the car shouldn't be 100% reliable. Any thoughts? I did suggest she seriously looks at new cars that may give a low to 0% apr and free insurance for the first year. She is 19 years old. Any thoughts?
  • Engine tweaking: a dying art? 2 Jul 2007 (Forum)
But does anyone know of a firm that fettles engines in a mechanical way, not just by chipping, without charging more than the cost of a new engine? I have been wondering about this for some time. Cars and Car Conversions, an old favourite of mine, doesn't seem to exist these days.
  • My new Passat needs a new engine! 6 May 2007 (Forum)
In a nutshell the warning sign/alarm for oil pressue came on as I approached work and the engine sounded like a bag of spanners. Car was recovered by VW Assist and taken to my local main agent, who called this afternoon to say they have ordered a new engine for me. Apparently, the drive for the oil pump failed. 8 months old, 9k miles.
  • Joes done it again. 24 Nov 2006 (Forum)
As we didn't think my wifes old and battered Fiesta would get through its MOT next year we have replaced both cars in one swoop using Joe Dowd again. I've now got a 53 reg Xsara SX HDi 110 and my wife has an R reg Escort Chicane that came through one of Joes contacts.
  • Alfas - are they worth the grief? 25 Aug 2006 (Forum)
It's a classic head v heart scenario I suppose. Has anyone out there "gambled" on an Alfa or another dream car and regretted it/not regretted it? Maybe I'm getting old but I think I must be getting bored of being sensible and buying sensible cars. Unfortunately, I'm not so well off that I can afford to just throw money away.
  • Think I'm gonna get a 5 series. Volume 1 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
t=44539"target="_blank">CLICK HERE to go to Volume 2 and continue discussion there ***** Well, after lots od looking, I have finally got my heart set on an old style 5 series as my replacement car. Absoloutely nothing else will do, and I've found the one that I want, it's a 2001 X Reg 525i SE Auto. Euipped with Leather, TV, Sat Nav etc. The car has full BMW history and is reprtedly in very good condition.
  • Merc S Class. Have I gone mad? 19 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I may be getting a new car allowance, significantly more than I currently receive. This gets me thinking. I could be tight, run a car like I currently do and pocket the wonga. Alternatively... I'm thinking about buying a three/four year old diesel S-Class for about £18-£20K.
  • a cunning plan? 13 Jun 2006 (Forum)
So, GF has sold her BMW, and really likes the MX5 or poss MR2 (will spend about £2500). No space in those, or in my MG. Hit upon cunning plan. Will need third car (!) to have room for people & stuff. So, leave purchase of sports car until autumn, prices will be cheaper, and buy banger now. Does this make sense? She does, however, totally want air con in both cars.
  • Medium to Large Estate Car 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Any advice on choosing a family estate car? My missus and i have got a 4 month old baby and are fed up trying to fit all the baby stuff into a peugeot 306. The pushchair will only just get in the boot, let alone trying to get in all the other stuff.
  • Bumpers 18 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I would say cars do not have bumpers any more. A colleague of mine drives a battered old banger and unashamedly goes in for contact parking - part of the reason the banger is battered. Cheers, SS
  • new discovery - no gearbox 7 weeks 8 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I've not seen my car for 7 weeks now, its a 1 year old landrover, the gearbox broke on 22may, (10,000 miles on clock) Landrover are being seriously unhelpful, they've promised my replacement gearbox will be delivered to the dealership who's holding the car 3 times ....guess what its never turned up I drive a seven seater as I need a big car, i also tow a trailer every weekend & at least once during the week guess what , they offered me a ford focus as a replacement- so we've had 2 children to a seat belt & ruined weekends for the last few weekends , I've just been told if the dealer cant get one of a few gear boxes that arrive on friday ( and guess what there arnt enough to go round, my car could be off the road several more weeks) ok.... besides being very upset about the whole escapeade, what would you do... revenge... or publically shame landrover....ideas please (legal tho') thanks
  • Audi A6 smoke 17 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The smoke is a dark colour. The car starts first time every morning with some smoke on tickover. The car passed an MOT smoke test easily in March 2002. Can anyone advise? Am I worrying unecessarily?
  • Corolla brakes down - gearbox broke ! 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Toyota = "new gearbox £1200 + labour" ! Sent the car to Trade Transmissions at Peterborough - anyone used them ? Hoping to get the box (if it is that) re-built, for less ! Not impressed - car is 3.5 years old. More concerning, the recovery man told me he's had 5 Corolla recently, all with the same fault....
  • Dissilusioned at poor quality 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Im looking for a new car and have also worked in the motor industry , for Toyota motor manufacturing, making the new Corrolla and old Avensis and before that for a joint Ford / VW francchise. I went to look at some cars today.
  • New or Used? 12 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Having read many posts and some quite interesting viewpoints I might be in the position soon of changing the car and wonder what you lot think. My question is whether to buy new or used with a budget of about £16k? I'm aware of the depreciation on new cars, but this is purely a private purchase of the heart, because i've never had a new car before and am really tempted to have the joy of running it in, taking care of it, keeping it in mint condition and just enjoying driving.
  • Tried to follow HJ's advice... 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
HJ - so my 71 year old grandmother decided that she defiantely wants a new(er) car after the exhaust dropped off her Corolla. No problem I thought, so we went out to look at the New Micra and some nearly new Yaris's, based on your recommendation that this is one of the best small, sensible cars for a retired lady...
  • Rusty rear wings on Clio. 2 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I know the car is over ten years old this year but as it has a FRSH can I expect a sympathetic response from Renault themselves about making good this problem? Any opinions, advice, suggestions, gratefully received.
  • Best of the superminis ? 26 Oct 2001 (Forum)
My girlfriends younger sister is about to embark upon driving lessons within the next couple of months, and it is likely that , as they did for my girlfriend, her parents will buy her a car for her 17th. Now against all my advice at the time, they bought my gf a 2 / 3 year old fiesta. This has been a pig of a car - it constantly cuts out at idle despite repeated visits to the garage and has the heaviest steering of any car I have ever driven.
  • Why is my Celica ugly? 26 Sep 2001 (Forum)
What is wrong with motoring journalists? I have a very smart (albeit old) '90 Toyota Celica GTi. I think it looks great (as do most people I meet). I work hard to keep it clean, and it still turns heads (or am I to believe it is with disgust!). So why do the motoring press, car guides (such as Parkers), and this web-site think it is an ugly duckling?
