  • RIP Diesel Hatchback 20 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Citroen AX Diesel - A hoot to drive yet rode really well and could do 70mpg no bother. Shame they never built a turbocharged version. Peugeot 306 Dturbo - The first diesel hot hatch. These were a hoot to drive yet comfy and great on fuel. Peugeot 405 GTD - The car that set corn fields on fire. Smooth, comfy and economical. I loved these especially the later post facelift cars with the smoother 1.9 motor and better interior.
  • Citroen ZX - Citroen ZX Turbo Deisel - XUD Head Gasket Repair 1 May 2010 (Forum)
Working in aerospace, this is an essential and always a worthwhile approach. Now if anyone has tried to do any maintenance on a Citroen or Peugeot, I’m sure you’ve used a whole array of swear words each time you did. French design their cars in a way that does facilitate easy maintenance. There is little room to work, as with most cars nowadays.
  • Mitsubishi Outlander-Could it be a failed DMF on? 24 May 2020 (Forum)
But I also have a warranty, however the nearest garage that is one of their "network" garages, that is even prepared to look at this is a Peugeot dealer - 100ml round trip (the 4007 was identical to the Outlander). They think it could be the DMF, but are concerned that their computer won't talk to the Mitsubishi (possibly different software on identical hardware) so could end up immobilising my car.

Reliability again fell with later models over complex and weak on longevity but they still drive great. Peugeot can’t be missed out either since they made the sweet handling 306 and 405, the comfortable and tough 406 and the Africa conquering 504 and 505. Later cars have been miserable sadly. Mercedes could be my front runner as they built two of the best made cars ever, the 123 and 124 series E classes.
  • Ford Europe Update 16 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Tourneo Courier - van based MPV now officially given a place in the UK market since January, dealers able to offer best finance deals on the market for this car type (shame honest John fails to provide a road test and review in the car section of his website). Dealer expects to sell plenty more on motability with Citroen/Peugeot/Vauxhall pushing up their van Based MPV prices on the Berlingo / Rifter / Combo Life Mustang - sales and enthusiasm starting to slow New Focus - Petrol DPF a real headache for some customers who only do short runs, has had to buy 2 back and down size the customers into Fiesta Actives.
  • Audi Q2 - first 1,000 miles 25 May 2018 (Forum)
Two I didn't even try: Mercedes GLA - sorry Mercedes, but I couldn't even have a spare wheel as an option - nowhere to put it.  Deal-breaker.. Peugeot 3008 - petrol engine is only a 1.2 and everything is done by touchscreen.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 15K and one year in. 22 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The upright seating allows him to sit comfortably in the Berlingo. my daughter, oh the fickleness of youth, changed her opinion on the car 100% when she saw the twin DVD players that were the sweetener Citroen were offering at the time. Overall, I just know that at the price, Citroen/Peugeot don't have any competition. The Dealer. Mmm. They bent over backwards to get the sale, I did get a deal I was not expecting and compared to other citroen dealers I know they worked very hard to get me the car I wanted (metallic and aircon) in a very short space of time.
  • Low mileage Xantia - am I sane to reject 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
both company and privately owned ? including 2 BMW 3 series, Mercedes260, Jaguar XJ6, Audi A4 110TDI, Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 106, various Fords/Rovers and Toyotas. So trying to find a nice diesel Xantia free from the usual ills proved an interesting experience this week (November 2004) Finally I found a 1998 Xantia LX with airconditioning in silver with 31,000 miles on the clock.
  • Auction visit 3 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Made £8,500 plus fees to online buyer who obviously got a bit over excited. Noticed a row of Open Reach Peugeot EV vans in on 73 plates for disposal at a commercial vehicle sale. These have done hardly any miles and are essentially new vans. Must not have worked out for the firm so they’re getting shot. Be interesting to see what they go for.
  • Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiesta 1.0L 125 Clutch Problem 1 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I'll also mention that I haven't smelt burning sound when I hear that whining/groaning/staining sound.  My previous car (Peugeot 206 1.6 16v xsi) 110bhp,  I drove that car from 2nd hand at 50k miles to 100k miles, all with the same clutch from new, and ragged that thing, would do hard launches at lights etc, that car has very similar 0-60 time  as this Fiesta,  slower by 0.2 seconds.
  • Buying a car, would like a few things cleared up 24 Feb 2017 (Forum)
My car has failed its MOT (04 plate Mondeo) & i'm kind of glad because i've had it for 2 years & its given me mostly nothing but grief in that time. Before this i pad a 02 automatic Peugeot 407 & a Vauxhall Agila (First car, insurance was ludicrously cheap) Both of these cars have also had there fair share of problems. That said none of them cost more than a £1000 to buy. £5000 is my budget to buy a car, i could go higher but i'd prefer not to.
  • Saab - Time running out to buy one of the last 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
New 1 hour 24 min ago Shame that SAAB went under, they have the Swedish cool Volvo could never have. Would prefer to see Renault or Peugeot (I like Citroen) go under rather than SAAB, but who knows, maybe now they are in bed with GM they could be next! reply Flag as offensive Protection from rear impacts 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I was reminded of that traffic-cops type TV programme on several months back where a young woman (the driver) had tragically been killed when her car (was it a Peugeot 206?) became sandwiched between a truck and an Audi estate. The truck was big-ish but not an HGV, and it turned out its driver had been fiddling with a cellphone, and realised so little of events that he thought he?
  • New Car buying tips.... 1 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Look at the pedigree of the car that you are buying. How have older, previous models fared? For this reason only buy new Renaults, Alfas, Fiats, Peugeots, Rovers if you expect high depreciation or patchy quality. 13. When haggling do not get rude or appear to be more knowledgeable than the salesperson. 14. Do not buy any Renault with an automatic gearbox. 15.
  • Please help me choose a diesel estate car 25 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I wouldn’t mind another Mondeo, but would like something different than what I already own.   I have looked at Skoda Octavia, Volvo, Peugeot, BMW, VW and after watching an old episode of the Top Gear’s race to Blackpool, a Jag X-type. I am seeking your advice.   What left-hand drive cars should I be pursing that will fit my needs?
  • Bikesafe ramble 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The knowledge that I hadn't made a total cock-up of the ride so far helped me relax and, barring some nervous horses in Helmsley and a Peugeot driver who U-turned in front of me near Chop Gate, the rest of the run was completed without incident at, erm, slightly more than the nsl. We did over 80 miles in a little under 2 hours including a 10 minute stop for a review and advice so we weren't hanging about.

I'd want that sill given a good looking at (along with the rest of the underside), but seems decent enough condition otherwise. That diesel lump certainly shouldn't give you any concern!.
  • Cars with soul 21 Apr 2020 (Forum)
The terror came from the wait until some terminal suspension problem killed it or sent you through a hedge at too high a speed. Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 - A bit mad, a paperweight hatch with a stupidly big engine combined with a great chassis that had terrible lift-off oversteer that could (and likely would) land you through the nearest hedge.
  • Ford Focus - international warranty 11 Dec 2011 (Forum)
BER   EU Article   81(1) ,   the Peugeot case of 9/7/2009 case No:T-450/05) or some other. If however I am on a hiding to nothing then I think is about time Ford put their house in order and did some thing to stop dealers offering outlandish warranties and then sliding out of honouring it through some small print or other.

Any more and it’s going to be too valuable to stand all those learning curve dings and bashes but any cheaper and you’re delving into true bangernomics where only those with knowledge of the dark art should lurk with their kids first cars. Citroen C1 1.0/Peugeot 107/Toyota Aygo 1.0 - Tiny 3cyl Daihatsu engine and costs buttons to run. Resists rot well and is as cheap as it gets for insurance. Simple and reliable yet fun to drive. A good example is easy to find at this money.
