Going electric? 29 Mar 2022 (Forum)
I’ve only done some basic back of a fag paper calculations so far but it does seem electric is viable here and it’ll cost me less per month than the loan for the Volvo currently does but it’ll last 4yrs instead of the 18mths left on the current car but it’s costing a fortune in repairs and maintenance plus fuel. What to do? Have at it regulars. -
Vauxhall Meriva - 2011 meriva crank no start 21 Mar 2019 (Forum)
The in-tank pump makes an 'groaning noise and primes for like a minute, which seems like a long time and an unusual noise - I've had the tank of and put 12v direct to the pump which makes it throw fuel out at a decent rate - also changed the fuel filter - so presume this side of the system is ok and maybe normal for this car? When cranking live data shows the rail pressure at around 200 bar initially and then can spike up to around 500 bar - is this why it tries to start initially and then doesnt because the pressure is too high....is that a thing? -
Ford Focus / Other - Help choosing a car 23 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I would also look at getting something a little different from the current Focus, with perhaps, - A larger engine to get more fuel economy during motorway driving - Perhaps an estate (for the odd occasion, when we want to pick up a large furniture item or flatpack from ikea). The main characteristics I will be looking for are; Modern Safety Features (curtain air bags, etc.), Reliability, Fuel Economy. -
Vauxhall Corsa C 2001 Comfort 1.0 12v - Corsa C Starting Problem IMMOBILISER? 4 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The car starts, but the immobiliser (which can disable one of three things apparently) is disabling the fuel injectors causing the car to stall out shortly after it starts. I can move the car around car parks etc, having to restart it each time it dies, so I can't imagine anything majorly mechanical has 'failed', it rather seems to me that the immobiliser is deliberately causing a problem which the engine is unaware of, meaning it tries to work, but is prevented from doing so shortly. -
E30 318i / 1994 / Tourer. - Fluctuating engine,lights & fan after new HT Leads 19 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I had a problem with my E30 318i stuttering, and thought it may be a fuel problem, but before replacing the fuel filter, I thought I'd replace the spark plugs and HT leads (number two lead had a burn hole in it), these had not been renewed for several years. About a week or so ago, I replaced the spark plugs and HT Leads, barr one, the number one spark lead (with the sensor cable on it), after having disconnected the negative wire to the battery 'first'. -
Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi (90) - Fuelling Problem - Pressure Regulator? 18 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The short version: Will the pressure regulator valve off a 0 445 010 010 Bosch fuel pump fit a 0 445 010 046 pump? I know the pumps are both CP1 and are interchangeable but are the pressure regulator valves also interchangeable between pumps? The long version: I have a 2001 406 with 350,000 miles on it. -
Had my first breakdown not nice - Clutch has gone 15 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Just dropped my sister off First off all just when i left my house the car was being lumpy in 3rd, I suspected it had ran out fuel (was also on the way to the fuel station) but it when I changed to 4th it was ran fine. Thought nothing of it, but maybe a fuel pump problem see how it goes. A couple of times during the last month when moving of lights the car has been slow to move off with a bit of over revving, I did think then I hope its not the clutch but it seemed fine so again thouht nothing of it. -
Mondeo - engine cuts out after starting 24 May 2006 (Forum)
m left with more questions than answers. What I?m worrying about is that if there was diesel, dirt or water in the fuel, could it have done long term damage to the engine? Is the engine likely to cut out again? Should I accept the car from them when I go to see them this afternoon? What if they filled the tank and test drove the car so I wouldn? -
any - battery degradation, handy app 1 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Been having some starting issues with the Forester for a while, seemed like fuel starvation, changed the fuel pump, spark plugs were due so changed them too, it was cold starting troubles only, once started it would fire up instantly until the next cold start, car running perfectly otherwise. -
Peugeot 207 - Stalling when Cold 10 Nov 2022 (Forum)
Not getting enough air? Will change the air filter and see, but only happens when cold. 2. Fuel pump failing? But it only happens when cold again. 3. Idle control valve issues? Thankfully I think I can change all of them myself, but I am no mechanic so for anything more demanding I would have to take it to the garage. -
Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi - Running problems - white smoke and no power 23 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I have recently bought a focus 1.8 TDCi on an '03 plate, the car would only only start with easy start and then run rough with a loss in power. I changed the fuel filter (was full of dirty fuel and bits but not metal particals), air filter (distorted beyond recognition) and the flexi pipe on the exhaust (it has a big hole in) and still nothing changed. I had times when it would run ok for a mile or so and then suddenly lose power an limp everywhere again. -
Peugeot 308 - Peugeot 308 - good buy second hand or a money pit? 24 Feb 2020 (Forum)
The sunday times review states http://www.driving.co.uk/car-reviews/peugeot-308-mk1-review-2007-2013/ The 308 has been recalled 17 times (at last count) since its launch in late 2007, for electrical glitches, numerous brake faults, fuel leaks, a potential loss of power steering and even a collapsing driver’s seat; most recent recalls have been for problems with steering, shock absorbers, faulty rear windscreen seals and fuel leaks which could lead to an engine fire. -
Audi A5 - Noise coming from air condition unit.... 20 Dec 2019 (Forum)
I was also advised that it was common practice to leave air con on permanently in the vehicle..?? I questioned this as air con runs on fuel and was told that for the amount of fuel used it would still be in my best interest to leave air con on permanently. I was not convinced about leaving air con on permanently but noise was gone everything worked again as it should and off i went... -
Cmax grand - Ford C-Max grand won’t run 12 Mar 2019 (Forum)
The mechanic installed the engine but the car just won’t run, it cranks but does not start, mechanic then gave me a bill for 450 because it took an extra day (even though it does not work ??) another mechanic now has car and has changed the fuel pump and injectors have been primed, various sensors and senders replaced, swapped the fuel injection pump and injectors over and it still doesn’t run. I’m now 2200 in and my car does not go, I’m so ridiculously stressed. -
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - Engine warning light 26 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I have had the car for c1 year (2015 plate), it has covered 42k miles, is fully serviced and does short 20 min motorway runs and to local town every day averaging 50 mpg. The Citroen garage has replaced the fuel filter twice, the first time after the car completely dumped all the diesel over the road and wouldn’t restart on after stopping. It is currently in said garage where and apparently it showed up a fuel line code but then they couldn't find anything physically wrong. -
Confused - second hand diesel or petrol estate 22 Feb 2017 (Forum)
If I use these figures as a benchmark the petrol version will cost approx £7 a week more in fuel so I'm still leaning towards the diesel. Cruise control would be nice as I have worn cartilage in my right knee, I also drive for a living so the less stress I put on it the better and obviously this too would affect fuel economy. -
Toyota Auris - hybrid or diesel & what MPG to expect 30 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Would really be appreciated if someone could advise what car I'm likely to get the best MPG out of given my usage. (btw, my brother has a 2012 Citreon C3 which is ace on fuel, but I hate the thing!) -
Mitsubishi Space Wagon - Garage stumped! 24 Mar 2014 (Forum)
2.cleaned the petrol pipe (tank to engine) 3. ultrasound cleaned the injectors (at my suggestion). 4.replaced the fuel pump- 3 times! 5.replaced sensors in the exhaust system 6.replaced the engine head, claiming the fuel pump drive from the camshaft was broken. 7. replaced the car computer. They claim all the readings on the computer analysis testings are correct. -
Volkswagen Golf GTI - Rough idle 22 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Very occasionally the car stops doing this but only briefly. Can someone tell me if this is electrical or fuel related? I have not had the ECU tested but it feels like it is something really simple - if only I could find it!! Thank you for any advice. Al. -
vw passat estate - Tyre question 10 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I was puzzled as what was wrong and how it had been corrected but thought no more of it. Within the same week I had 4 new fuel injectors replaced under the VW safety recall and ever since then my fuel economy has worsened by nearly 10%. I have never known whether this is a tyre problem or the new injectors. Fast forward to this week and the car has just had service and on the paperwork they give tyre tread wear for all 4 tyres for outside, inner and middle.
